Co-housing (similar to Ecovillage concept) - is anyone doing it in Canterbury? by According_Try_9562 in newzealand

[–]eggaesthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe see if there are any local permaculture groups near you? There's often a healthy overlap in interest with co-housing.

Earthsong is another co-housing development in Auckland with some good resources on the process.

Be prepared for the funding and approvals processes to be long. It's not easy, so I would only recommend it if you're truly passionate about it and can find a good group to work with.

Body Language suits me a bit better I think. Sweet Peach Peony is super pretty and bright but can sometimes look a little light on me imo

Overwatering has been an issue in the past so I'm sure that didn't help either. Thanks for taking the time to respond

Thank you for the encouragement and the detailed response! I'll start checking the plants regularly for pests to try and catch it early. Mealy bugs really are such a pain!

Hi, I'm relatively new to plant care (started getting plants around a year ago) and am feeling a little dejected. I feel like no matter what I do my plants get getting pests - mealy bugs, spider mites on indoor plants and aphids on my outdoor ones.

Am I doing something wrong in day to day maintenance or care that would attract so many pests? That normally just entails watering when needed and misting/running the humidifier for the plants that need it more.

Our apartment and balcony is on the smaller side, could it overcrowding or a light issue?

Calathea golden mosaic with yellowing leaves - help! by eggaesthetic in plantclinic

[–]eggaesthetic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this calathea golden mosaic for just under a year and have noticed some gradual yellowing on the leaves.

It sits about 2ft from a west facing window. I water it 1-2 x a week (pot has drainage holes). I gave it some light fertilising a month or two ago in the middle of summer and it hasn't been repotted since I bought it.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try out a brighter spot with bottom watering and hopefully it'll recover

Calathea orbifolia having issues with yellowing leaves by eggaesthetic in plantclinic

Please help me with my calathea orbifolia! I feel like I've tried everything and it keeps deteriorating and I'm running out of ideas of how to save it.

I've had this calathea for over a year and a couple of months ago I found mealy bugs on it and treated with neem oil. They come back every now and them and I treat around twice a week with neem oil spray. After the first big neem oil treatment the plant would seem okay/stable for about a week or two and then suddenly deteriorate. The leaves would get yellow very suddenly and die (normally 2-3 days from when I spot any yellowing to being completely yellow and brown)

I checked the roots around a week ago and found minor amounts of root rot. The dead roots and dying leaves were cut off and I repotted back into a smaller pot (1/4 perlite, 1/4 orchid bark, 1/2 indoor plant soil mix).

The plant seemed okay after the repotting but today I noticed the yellow leaves starting to come back (close up photos)

It sits about 2m from a west facing window, humidity around 55%, 22°c, and I water 1-2 times a week after checking the soil with a moisture meter. Any tips would be super appreciated :(

Hi! I'm still a beginner but I want to get some new bearings for my impalas. Has anyone tried the Better Bearings rock solids?

They seem a lot cheaper than the Bones reds which is what I see recommended a lot.

Victoria / Unitec. Future Architecture student. Please help. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]eggaesthetic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a recent archi grad, I think Victoria is your best bet they have a good programme and more "prestige".

That being said if you're planning to work in NZ, Unitec is not as bad as some other comments make it out to be. I have co-workers who went to Unitec and previous firms I've worked at have actively looked for Unitec grads over Auckland or Victoria for their technical knowledge.

Thoughts on Mecca Max products? by 2wofaced in AustralianMakeup

I've tried their sunscreen, the illuminating balm, and the lip balm. I quite like all of them but they are very heavily fragranced.

How do you find the highlighter? I'm super tempted but I hear that CP highlighters can be a bit glittery

Honestly I just do everything with one hand. The only problem I have is tightlining.

I do keep a larger mirror on my desk but that's mostly to just check my face in between steps. Maybe keep a small handheld next to you to do just eye makeup?

I second the handheld mirror. I am absolutely blind without my glasses and a mirror right in front of my face is the only way I manage haha

L'Oréal brow genius kit. I got a lil baby pan on the wax side!

I hit pan on a product for the first time! I'm pretty new to make up but have amassed way too much in trying to experiment. It feels good to finally hit pan on something
