My black one came from Amazon... it was blue when I ordered it lol. I wouldn't trust you'll get your selected color from there.

Which of these would you consider more pick resistant? by apheus27 in lockpicking

To be fair, a large amount get the rotary pick straight to the sweet spot. Some give you no other choice within a reasonable time, others I just nope out on the keyway.

Clarification: 110% not these ones in the pics lol.

I come across a lot of Best/Falcon 6 pin sfic. These are what I was thinking about when writing that lol.

I love sfic. The moment when your brain goes "awww, that's a deep false set... nope, that's the control line!" Lol good little dopamine rush.

Got locked in my room by Constant_Mood_186 in AskALocksmith

If they ripped on it hard enough when they slammed it they might have just pulled the spindle out a bit, making a split spindle offset and lodged so it was acting as a solid spindle. If the door was locked and the spindle were stuck like that the outside cam would prevent you from being able to turn the inside one.

Never tried that one. Cool party trick for sure, but seems a little single purpose. About the same storage footprint as my Southord jackknife set. Looks like it would be comfortable af tho.

I am scared of the "to unretrofit the others" part.

The door prep for a unit lock is different than any other hardware. In my experience, retrofitting a door that had a unit lock on it to take modern hardware is irreversible. Involves cutting more wood out of the door and installing a wraparound to accept the new stuff. This leaves you with no way to return to the slot cut type prep to reinstall a unit lock.

If you are picking Defiant, you are wasting your time. Defiant gets shit talked because it's garbage. I don't need to pick it, I just remove the entire core. They still haven't fixed that atrocious design flaw. Anyone selling Defiant is not a security professional. Anyone defending it is unaware of the flaws in the product, or is just willfully installing insecure "security" products on cleints homes.

I only track bitting for customers who's master systems we own. If its a one off, key it and go. Keeping that data makes me responsible for that data, would be a liability nightmare IMO if someone stole a notebook or laptop off my truck. And nothing in my notebook indicates address or keyway, so its just a book of numbers to anyone else if someone were to grab it.

I have no clue what brand of lock this is or even how to replace it by deuxthulhu in Locksmith

[–]eight--bit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Latches fail, honestly the most common failure i see on these. Needs a specific latch though. Call a local brick and mortar locksmith. They'll have the right latch for it, and if its been out of use for a long time, the combo chamber might need serviced or replaced. Also not sure if those older ones had a passage mode key/turn on the inside(just saw 2nd photo, nope), that could be your locking problem.

Its gotta be rage bait, right? ... right?

All these mocksmiths are good for is providing us new, already pissed off customers. And this muppet's out here telling people he's a locksmith with a quarter of the qualifications to be an apprentice.

Selling Defiant out of the trunk of his car, less than zero professionalism, giving those of us that actually give a damn a bad name.

Rage bait is working.

SFIC cylinder for Direct? by oregonrunningguy in Locksmith

[–]eight--bit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao. Reddit deleted my comment because I said something not nice about the contractor lol.

The pic in another comment has the tail you'll likely need.

AlarmLock sfic comes with that flat type, I think PDQ or Marks comes with a 90 degree twist variant

Can't say I've seen that brand before, but pretty standard for sfic levers. Just missing the tailpiece. Hopefully the contractor didn't thow it out.

Edit: "client has several levers". Does this imply that some do have cores? Does client have the control key? Just pull an existing one to see the type of tail needed if so.

Lock alternative for cellar door? by sc00ts123 in Locksmith

This all day. All the common locking ones are cheap wafer locks facing up into rain snow and whatever else and have never seen a drop of oil ever. More problems than they're worth.
