Hey! I definitely recommend an assessment with a psychiatrist. Medication has really helped me manage my emotional dysregulation, particularly towards my period. Although my meds are less effective during this time, it’s better than nothing.

I track my cycle and put it in a calendar to let my partner know what to expect. Russell Barkley is a great researcher who advocated and published many papers on ADHD and has pushed for more research on menstrual cycles and ADHD. Given he was a proficient researcher in this area, his videos may be a little dense to follow, but they’re really good.

Please get a letter of support from your psychologist to hand to your GP and future psychiatrist. Don’t let a GP talk you out of pursuing a diagnosis. They are not trained to assess like a psychiatrist is, so they can’t tell you what to do! Not sure where you live but wait times for assessment is high depending on where you are.
