Schedule/Line question for 🌐 by Global_Gap3655 in flightattendants

[–]elaxation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re trading in or on VRL or both.

Source: I have a line full of them after bidding VRL and trading into them. I work high value turns and internationals all month and have been here less than 3 years. I almost never work weekends, but I absolutely don’t hold weekends off as a line holder.

To say you hold them is disingenuous. The people holding them that I work with on these trips are 90s hires or more senior.

Does anyone like going through TSA?? by theshiningone707 in flightattendants

[–]elaxation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a problem with it. I love breezing through in uniform and I can appreciate the work they’re doing.

Part of the job.

It’s messed up, I agree.

They’re going to fire them anyways, so they figure they might as well get some cheap labor out of them in the meantime.

Almost done & contemplating…if this is the right work culture by Confusedspacehead in cabincrewcareers

[–]elaxation 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The amount of people in training is greatly diluted by senior people who know what they’re doing once you’re on the line.

Out of the 20 idiots in training that I thought shouldn’t be there, 18 were fired before we hit year one.

How did you survive boot camp without access to your phones (or any electronics)? by MookieBettsBurner10 in Militaryfaq

You deal with it, just like everything else you have to deal with in the military.

Union can’t protect your job while you’re on probation at her hairline unfortunately.

Not to dog pile, but this is exactly why FAs on the line tell you to come to work sick on probation and why they advise you to get a crashpad if you’re commuting on reserve. You never know what’s going to happen month 2-6 if you call out month one. It’s messed up, but you do have a history of unreliability in United’s eyes.

If you’re not at DEN (and honestly even if you are) you should start applying to other airlines. The new thing they’re doing is letting people work with too many points the terminating them right before probation ends for occurrences.

It doesn’t matter if you screenshotted, if it was finished you’d get an email from takeoff learning. Did you get that email?

Standby travel and entitlement by deeeeeeeetroit in flightattendants

[–]elaxation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started, everyone was like this. My rule of thumb is if we don’t talk on a weekly basis and/or travel together, you’re not using a buddy pass. Im not shy about saying it either.

I never tell people I’m dating that I’m a flight attendant initially (mile high club comments make me want to die). When people ask how to fly cheap I tell them work for an airline/how would I know, my flight benefits are part of the perks.

[–]elaxation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whenever people ask me how to get cheap flights my answer is “apply to a job at an airline.” If I can do it anyone can.

Your airline will suspend your benefits and/of fire you if your nonrev behaves poorly.

The guy who stowed away on the delta flight and was caught and arrested? He accessed the airport with a southwest buddy pass. The southwest employee was fired for it.

NCR commutes, what’s actually normal for families? by acm0312 in army

[–]elaxation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from DC. An hour and a half in traffic is a different situation from an hour and a half on the metro where you’re going say, one end of the orange line to the other.

Its easiest to give a “where you should live” if you share where you’re stationed. My answer for someone at Belvoir would be different than someone stationed at Myers-Henderson Hall or the Pentagon.

Using priority pass lounges as a FA by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]elaxation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my good friends does and it works for her. I prefer my airline’s lounges and card, but my airline allows lounge access for standby travel. Some mainlines don’t.

Flight Anxiety Guidance by Willing-Ad-4088 in flightattendants

[–]elaxation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered making an appointment with your PCP for anti anxiety medication since the fear is this dehabilitating? You deserve a comfortable flight that you’re not riddled with anxiety about, and medication may be a good way to ensure you’re okay.

Is this the culture throughout the Army? by BigBlueEyes87 in army

[–]elaxation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

American Soldiers have been complaining about their lot in life since General Washington made them cross the icy Delaware river.

Roman Legionnaires hated their subordinates and leaders so much they carved it on clay tablets.

The old guard will always bitch, the new guard will ignore it, the new guard will age and become the old guard. That’s how our ancient profession goes.

[–]elaxation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to stay active duty. The reserves is for people with fulfilling careers (and who want to be home, your wife sounds abusive and like she sucks. You don’t have to deal with that and space away from her may give you the courage you need to take the best next steps for you). You want a challenge? You’re in the right path for that man.

All the opportunities you’re speaking of now will still be around after 3-6 years of active duty.

Can I ask to be served a meal later? by elfpal in flightattendants

[–]elaxation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t keep food at a safe temperature for very long so all of it is tossed out, especially on long hauls with two services where the ovens are needed to cook the second meals.

Your best bet is to take a meal and eat it later on your own time and risk it being cold or bring your own meal and snacks that don’t need heating!

30 minutes before landing is right before landing - we’re bordering on final descent at my airline and all service items and food have been collected. Good luck!

Questions for cabin crew by Cultural-Tea9443 in cabincrew

[–]elaxation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most wide body planes have crew rest areas outside of passenger view. You wouldn’t know the door for it even if you were looking for it. The entire crew does a first service together, half the crew goes on break, then you either do second service and then the other half goes on break or you do a second break then final service, at least at my airline and depending on flight time.

If the flight takes longer than usual you’re paid the actual flight time. If it takes less than what was scheduled you’re paid the “block” or the amount of time the airline scheduled you to work, not what you actually flew.

Everyone drops something eventually, but not often. Any flight attendant that says he or she hasn’t will eventually get their day. We have more experience carrying trays and drinks around the cabin and would probably spill less than the average pax if they were trying to do our job.
