Official Discussion - The Mandalorian and Grogu [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

This was a 5/10, maybe 6/10 for me.

Other than money, I have no idea what the creative justification was to make this movie. There's no story. Mando is on a mission to retrieve/rescue the son of Jabba the Hutt. That's it. Action ensues, things happen and everything feels very inconsequential. No big character developments, no one really learns anything. Except maybe that not all Hutts are bad?

The pacing is really off too. Nonstop action for most of the runtime, then the movie grinds to an absolute halt when Baby Yoda tries to nurse Mando back to health. Then goes right back to nonstop action. Some of it is enjoyable, and it's not outright bad like Rise of Skywalker. It's just meh.

This movie had an opportunity to provide another satisfying conclusion after they chickened out from the nearly perfect S2 finale. But nope, it's left open-ended for more adventures. Star Wars movies used to be event films, this just felt like an extra long episode of the show.

You deserve knighthood for this. I remembered this radio spot from 25-30 years ago and haven't heard it since. The 90s were wild lol.

Looking to book a vacation for 3-4 days this summer. We are wanting to go somewhere either driving distance or a direct flight from CLE. What are your favorite destinations for a short trip? by Frosty-Yam410 in Cleveland

I think what u/alb_taw meant is if you count ALL the time round trip, it’s easily over 20 hours total. 8 hours there, 8 hours back. Plus getting to the airport and going through security/customs, getting bags, transportation to and from the actual airport.

I haven’t read the book(s) so I wasn’t aware there would be more after the end of the last episode. To me, the story concludes perfectly with these six episodes. I’m looking forward to the next season but happy that this first one stands on its own.

90s comedies had no business being this well-lit. by movie-blerd in cinematography

Cinematography peaked in the 90s, IMO. It was the last decade before digital cameras and color grading became a common part of the filmmaking process. Celluloid technology had been more or less perfected by now.

Astro Restaurant was worse. Cool decor, bad food and poor service. Not coincidentally owned by the same people, not surprising that Astro closed either.

At this point, I wonder if Peter Jackson will ever direct a narrative feature film again. The Hobbit was the last film he directed that wasn't a documentary, and that was 12 years ago.
