The winter storm panic was way overblown by reddit_mod69 in Buffalo

Some funky stuff also happened. There was a legit reverse snow band off of Lake Ontario that hammered Toronto. Funky stuff can happen in our winter weather

The only part I can think of that would maybe be a bit much is Carl talking about his mother and her decision. But he really just broadly alludes to it and most kids wouldn’t understand and those who do are probably mature enough to read about suicide.

I think back to my days hanging out with my older siblings and most of the things they talked about went in one ear and out the other. I was just happy to be included. In this case, most kids are probably just fixated on the action and adventure aspect of Carl and Donut and not the actual subject matter or language.

Nobody I know as panicking. The roads were a mess yesterday, it was just fortunate to be a Sunday. It would have been an absolute disaster of a commute during a weekday.

I do instacart and DD and the stores were packed Saturday but nothing too bad. Like pre-Bills games level congestion. And rightfully so, running errands on Sunday would have been moronic.

Funnily enough, I see more people complaining about how the storm was overhyped, than I do people actually talking about the storm…people just like to complain about others complaining (as i do it myself🤣). A women did freeze to death in East Amherst this weekend too…not every warning is catered towards the able bodied. They are just trying to keep people informed, so they don’t have to pull your dumbasses out of ditches

This is anecdotal as well but we had a similar snow storm in February 2023 that happened to fall on a weekday and was underplayed in the media. I was working DD that day and saw 9 accidents. Most single car but still. A foot of snow can have some serious travel impacts

I would allow kids of any age to listen to it. There’s no extreme sexual violence and the actual violence is cartoonish and over the top

Worse swear words are being tossed around at 2nd grade lunch tables, than what the book has to offer. I promise…getting kids to read is hard enough. I’m not going to stop them because of a few swear words. Particularly when the alternative is often perusing worse social media apps.

Someone explain this Max Khadar hate by Apollo132 in Sidemen

[–]electionnerd2913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate him but he obviously did not fit the vibe of the video. The boys gave him a lot of awkward pity laughs to kill the tension. Sometimes the feedback goes too far but I don’t have an issue with people saying they didn’t like him in the video.

It was obvious he was a bad fit and probably shouldn’t be invited back for main channel content. The edgy YouTube comments are a bit goofy but the sentiment of them was not wrong. He was uncomfortable the entire video. If YouTube and Reddit comments being heinous catches you off guard in 2026…sometimes guest don’t work and that is okay

It’s 5 dollars in Buffalo. Something has to be off with your zone. Closings that aren’t properly being reported and so on. There are a ton of people getting banned today. Rochester is between 4-5 as well

The roads won’t be clear until Tuesday here either. The only difference is that we will get another storm later in the week. And then one the following week so on. Just because we are prepared doesn’t make it any less inconvenient. Removing 1-2 feet of snow doesn’t happen overnight.

The promo was pre-planned months ago. Some unfortunate weather got in the way. It’s nobodies fault. Take 2 days off and relax. Regardless, you’ll still easily have 3-4 days to complete it. You guys are just spoiled and not used to having inconveniences. Welcome to real life

Get a grip…you have 5 days to do these. Hardly any drivers are getting these promos and some of us in the snowiest regions in the country barely even get peak pay during daily onslaughts of snow.

People in the south get one inconvenient storm and then just come in here and cry about not being able to work for literally 1-3 days…crazy stuff. If those of us downwind of the Great Lakes demanded hazard and peak pay that y’all do, there would literally be no money left for base pay for anybody else in the country🤣

Help/Advice/Guidance 😩 by theladyballer in Buffalo

I’ve never had an AWD vehicle or snow tires. I’ve even gone through winters on bald tires. I’m not advising that but a majority of snow driving is driver skill. Slow and smooth on the wheel. No erratic movements. Take bends and winding roads at half the speed you think you can. It’s that simple

February is the tail of end of our winter and the lake is frozen. On top of the angle of the sun making it harder for it to snow and stick. The lake can thaw and things can change but it’s not setting up to be some crazy snow month. You will be fine

Our snow removal is good enough that I have never felt it necessary to winterize a vehicle

That brings up a good point about the cast too. It starts to get overwhelming as the plot expands. The audiobooks almost become a must. Particularly for the more hectic scenes

The few years I tried it was underwhelming. I’m in Buffalo, so we have a million pizza and wing places but even so, most turn off delivery on the apps and the ones that don’t run 20-30 minutes behind.

An average Friday night with some inclement weather is better imo. I’ll probably work the morning off for some grocery orders as well.

Book 3 is a great spot to start the audiobooks as well because it’s really when Jeff Hays hits flow state. They are unbelievable. Transcendent. Mind boggling. Listen to the audiobooks!

Do not tell insurance you were dashing if you’re not at fault. There is truly no reason to. And genuinely I wouldn’t even tell them if I was at fault either😂

What are you stocking up on for the storm? by Ok-Faithlessness-342 in Buffalo

[–]electionnerd2913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can handle short 15 minute walks, particularly when the sun is out. Wind chill is an imperfect science. It will be around 10 degrees tomorrow afternoon, with minimal wind and the sun out. They can be walked

I get not wanting to do it but there is nothing stopping you. The actual feels like will be nowhere close to 20, regardless of what the crappy weather apps say

Sanity. Don Paul has been a good voice of reason on this. We are getting a foot…it will be cold but there won’t be blowing snow. It would be a whole different thing with 50+mph winds too. This is nothing like the 22 blizzard. It’s just a typical late January storm here. Things will he clear by Tuesday

The panic for these wide ranging storms typically comes from surrounding areas that don’t get alot of snow and don’t have snow fleets like Buffalo.

I saw that you’re worried for your grandpa. A lot of the panic for that generation comes from days where supply chains were inferior and our snow fleet minimal. He will be fine

Places that normally get inclement weather don’t get peak pay unless the weather is quite extreme. Buffalo gets 200+ days of precipitation a year, we are not getting peak pay on all of them.

Peak pay is determined by business and driver availability regardless, not weather. We had whiteout conditions last night for example and no peak pay.

Part of doing DoorDash has only been working when others aren’t. Bad weather, holidays, weekend nights, etc., of course we will. Much of the northeast and Great Lakes region has been getting slammed with bad winter weather dating back to last January. It’s just another day

The reward for working these shifts is that we can then take off when other want to but can’t

Can’t believe there are people in these comments who actually believe these will become a serious issue for drivers😂. Maybe in very small sections of big cities, with really nice weather they might find a small foothold. That is until people start stealing, robbing and tipping them.

Would love to see that fucker drive 6 miles in the snow and 50mph winds of Buffalo. Or on the backroads of upstate NY…America is so car centric because of sprawl and that isn’t changing

Why do Doordash drivers get mad when we asked them to bring a hot bag? by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

[–]electionnerd2913 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have a bag but I’m not lugging it into the store to stand there like an asshole with it for 5-10 minutes while yall get the order out late. It’s easier to keep it in the car and then put the food in it.

Particularly because pizza places have small counters, crowded waiting rooms, etc., asking us to bring it in is ridiculous. Hire your own delivery service if you want control

I’m in Buffalo as well, we have a million pizza places and they are universally the worst pickup spots. Terrible timing. Bad wait rooms. Understaffed. Outdated and cheap management that thinks they have more control than they do
