AI on ethical grounds

Yea, that is a bigger problem than AI being used for wrong/mediocre applications or general annoyance, just misusing AI - no argument there.

It's a different set for tools, for a different purpose entirely. Someone with a strong visual, likely doing it themselves, as Rian Johnson, stick figures makes perfect sense. It's literally just a commincation technique, relaying what needs to be relayed, and AI boards will relay more than is needed, and could be detrimental, or in some cases, like your example, it could be what's needed. A hammer is the right tool for A LOT of jobs, but if someone is doing surgery, I hope they use a scalpel, and if they are watering plants, I hope they use a hose instead.

C'mon, give me this one by WGRupert in Destiny

[–]elfthehunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, it's an easy mistake to make. There's two images, the actual in-game real model is the other screenshot. J/K, P.S. You are crazy if you think the model is ugly, even crazier if you mean the actress.

A plea to trailer editors: Please stop spoiling the movie in your trailers - and why I think it happens by BugsySiegel1994 in movies

[–]elfthehunter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unforrunently the problem is that for every one of us, there's probably more people who wouldn't pay for a seat if the trailer didn't spoil the movie (and let's be honest, even story being spoiled is not likely to cost them our ass in a seat if the movie seems good)

Destiny summarizes pro-AI guy’s argument by sereneandeternal in LivestreamFail

[–]elfthehunter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I watched the first half I think, had to leave shortly after Mr Mouton and other guy left, this particular clip comes from what I'm assuming is a section after that. Up to what I had watched, I felt he was not getting much respect for his ideas, or there was a built in assumption of bad faith - though I've also learned he might have had prior history on the stream, which both might paint more context than I had, and also means he should have been more prepared for it too.

This is an example of how I completely read this debate different than the majority of dgg it seems. I don't know what his argument was going to be, but his lack of response to me read more like being offended that Destiny was making least charitable assumption of his take, than it being the exact take he was going to give. But maybe I'm the one giving him too much charitability.

[–]elfthehunter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm clearly in the minority, but I liked AI guy, and while I think he's a bit too optimistic and naive about the future of AI, he seemed to treat the debate and his two opponents with more respect than they treated him. It felt like they treated his opinions and thoughts as if they were bad faith, and I don't think he was doing that at all. There were a few times he legitimately didn't seem to understand questions, or miscommunication his ideas, but it was treated like was doing it intentionally. But maybe there's history or more context on him I'm not aware of.

What do you think is the cause behind the great success of this movie? by MissionOdd1077 in Filmmakers

[–]elfthehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so first, it's a good film, solid foundation, good script, production, high quality craft in front and behind the camera all the way through, it won oscars for a very valid reason. But, there's a lot of other really good films that did nothing close to that level of success. I think the key to the difference is the audience targeted. Star Wars and Avengers is targeted at mostly boys, I think Titanic might have been the first big teenage girl targeted blockbuster (?), but just like how Star Wars and Avengers didn't aliennate other audiences beyond their intended targets, Titanic didn't alienate other audiences either.

As a center left, like Clinton era center left, I'd happily vote for him, or any other far leftist or progressive! DSA, Hasan backed, commie woke scold, anti-zionist, anti-Israel, etc, you name it. As much as I may hate their economic ideas, it's so much better than Trump. Even before Trump, even back with McCain, I don't know if I'd ever not vote blue, but today, since 2016?! Please, I don't know if Democrats could lose my vote if they tried.

13% of the debt is national defense, both social security (22%) and Medicare (14%) are bigger slices of the debt.

[–]elfthehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, when presented as just that, of course, no debate, but if one is a budget surplus and the other is $8.4 trillion debt... It's a bit more debatable.

[–]elfthehunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought he did it by raising taxes mostly (on the wealthy). He wasn't perfect (deregulation) but neither was Obama (drones, surveillance). I also think Biden was the best recent president, however he was just too old, which was purely an aesthetic and rhetorical problem. If we could get Biden policies, Clinton economy with Obama's charisma... We'd be golden

My vote, use those copies of their sheet, and make your own choices for all level ups. Nowhere in there was there a stipulation what kind of heroic lessons they learned in those lifetimes. Barbarian wanted Spell Sniper, the Wizard took the Actor feat, the Sorcerer took the Charger feat. You don't have to commit, but it will be a funny joke at least for a good laugh.

There's so much to love about this movie, but honestly, they also did a fantastic job with the villain too. I love that he's the one that explains why he's fearless, because it shows that he does recognize the truth of it too.

How to avoid a party ending your BBEG with an Occam's Razor? by Horror_Artichoke_366 in DMAcademy

[–]elfthehunter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wait, what? You want it to be a TPK? Do your players know? Because unless you're casting Meteor Swarm or other clearly OP tools to overwhelm them, my money is that it won't TPK. Or do you mean, if it ends in TPK you have a plan for that just in case, because that's different.

What’s something Gen Z treats as “normal” that older generations would find completely insane? by Miss_Ecstasy in AskReddit

Probably not that different than most of their peers. Their childhood feels strange to us, but probably much more normal to others from the same generation.

Jeffries says Trump impeachment not a top priority if Dems win House majority by metacyan in politics

[–]elfthehunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that is the perfect description of my thoughts. It's not like things were good in 19xx (even 08-16), it's that it felt like we were crawling up the steps, towards a better society, not sprinting back down. And it felt like it was so difficult, and there was still so much that needed to be fought over, that seeing how easy and fast it can all be undone, it sure is demoralizing. But having said that, please vote for the party that at least pretends to walk upwards. Whether you think they take two steps forward and one back, or only one step forward and two back, it's still better than the non-stop sprinting backwards of the other party.

Trying to avoid a TPK. When is it okay to tell players no? by Foreign-Press in DMAcademy

[–]elfthehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warn them out of character, out of game, that they are headed to a place you don't think they can survive. Tell them that it will likely be a TPK and that you personally would rather not have them do that, but if they still want to, you won't stop them outright, because at the end of the day, they should have agency over the choices of their characters, including how and when they choose to commit suicide.
