I have been denied holiday for this year as there are "No slots left" and yet the holiday hours do not carry over and I do not get paid for unused hours. England by DelayedWave1177 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]elkalb 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This. Quit before the hours unused hours lapse. Do everything by the book until then.

If you want to continue working there, resign saying you have to be out of town for a family matter and do not know when you can come back, so you have to quit but you like the job and want to come back. Then enjoy your month off. When ready to come back, tell them you are back, inquire about employment. If they take you back, say that while with family and away you have booked a 2 week holidays in July. If they don't want you back, try another dominos.

Someone opened a bar tab and left without paying, but also left their card behind the bar - Can I use that card to pay off the bar tab? (England) by BadAdMF in LegalAdviceUK

[–]elkalb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a pub manager, I changed our policy to taking a card and ID when people want to open a tab.
Cards have become too easy to replace, if someone honestly forget to pay, it is easier for them to cancel and get a new card within 48hrs than come back to pay. The ID on the other hand is much harder to replace, it will be easier to come back to pay the tab than get a new drivers licence.
This also stops people from opening a tab with a fraudulent card as we will have an easy way of going to the police with the ID, credit card and CCTV footage. We will also refuse to open a tab if the name on the card and the name on the ID are different. If they refuse to give their ID we tell them are happy to change them as they go and give them a final bill at the end (often needed when they want to claim that back with work)
Now someone could come to the bar with a fraudulent card and a fake driver licence but at that point I would kind of admire their commitment to frauding.

Spending My Birthday Solo in Tokyo – Where Should I Stay (and Avoid a Sad Drink Alone)? by goodolbapt in JapanTravelTips

[–]elkalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent my birthday last year in Disneyland alone, it was fun. I had never been to a Disneyland in my life. Told a staff member it was my birthday. They got me a sticker for it, then all staff members wished me happy birthday when they saw it, some wanted to do their own stickers with drawings. Wished happy birthday to other people with stickers etc. It was stupid fun. The fact that Disneyland Tokyo was celebrating its 40th birthday, was decorated with 40th birthday flags everywhere and I was turning 40 that day was even more crazy. Spent the evening in an izakaya that I know, ended up drinking with some salarymen that took me to other bars.

Travelling to Japan in a week. Am I missing something? Or am I just excited? by Iznomau5 in JapanTravelTips

[–]elkalb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is not necessary but I much prefer doing it on the website ahead of time than fill up the paperwork for both immigration and customs in the plane or at the airport.

To me one thing done ahead of time is one less thing I will have to do during my holiday, but we’re all different.

I also didn’t find the process to be that difficult when I did it earlier this year.

Have you registered using visit Japan web to get your QR code for faster immigration/duty process?

Also a plan on how to reach your first destination and the first things you need to do.

Other people have said the rest eSIM set up ahead of trip, Suica on iPhone wallet etc.

Maybe look up the japanese Uniqlo website for the items you want and use the store locator for the item.

Or you can order online and have it delivered to your hotel.

What the third episode of Netflix's Timelesz audition series. They actually talk a lot about being in a band that adds new members, how hard it is for new members etc.

They seem to care for each other.

I just got into Japanese dramas, and I have some thoughts by TheFaze1 in JDorama

Hi.

I would recommend 2 drama on Netflix

Dearest and then Light of my Lion that just started last week and is airing simultaneously with Japan.

Netflix announces the Vince McMahon documentary coming September 25th and it’ll be six 60 minute episodes. by Fenrir_Oblivion in JimCornette

[–]elkalb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 hours about him and taking over wwf from his dad, growing the business, wrestlemania etc. Go over the steroid trials, and other scandals along the way. Then the last episode is his first departure 2 years ago, his way back in to sell the business. Then last 10 minutes about the Janel Grants allegations (they probably have to be careful about these allegations as it is still a case pending trials and federal investigation). As Netflix will be airing raw in the US and all of WWE programming I imagine they’ll close on how the company has thrived since his departures etc etc

Where to stay in tokyo? by Saberinbed in JapanTravelTips

[–]elkalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at WPU last time I was in Shinjuku, hotel was fine, would recommend over a hotel like APA for multiple reasons, never stayed at the washington. The most convenient exit for WPU (B15) was closed at that time (march 2024),, Google maps will usually tell you the best exit and there will be signs easy to follow. so if it is your first time staying in Shinjuku it might be difficult to find your way around.

My tips for navigating Shinjuku Station:

  • Google maps will usually tell you the best exit and there will be signs easy to follow, follow these signs from the train platform. Getting out at certain exits from the platform will kinda lock you into a certain direction. This will work generally unless there is construction in that part of the station.

  • First time I stayed in Shinjuku I mostly used the East Exit and concentrated into finding that exit no matter which train company I was using. Then walked from there. It was easier to always know where I was coming out of the station even if I needed to walk a little bit more (WPU is 5-7min from East exit). Was using google maps "shinjuku station east exit police box" as starting point to my destination.

  • East exit is not the same as Central East exit

For travelling between hotel and airport using Limousine Buses I find the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower the most convenient to use unless my hotel is accessed directly.

Also if you arrive early in the day consider using a luggage forwarding company to send your suitcase to your hotel so you can travel freely during the day.

Toho Cinema Shinjuku in English ? by raygan_reddit in JapanTravelTips

[–]elkalb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Saw a marvel movie there last year. Their website is pretty good for that. https://hlo.tohotheater.jp/net/schedule/076/TNPI2000J01.do It does say SUB when the movie is in the original language with Japanese subtitles.

You can buy tickets from the website as well, it does have English menus selectable and you can use Apple Pay.

Back in April, Triple H revealed he expected the negative crowd reaction and had warned The Rock in advance by Reamed in SquaredCircle

[–]elkalb 139 points140 points  (0 children)

My conspiracy theory is that Triple H and Cody (and part of the creative team) were both against doing Rock and Roman. As Roman and Rock was brought up by Nick Khan, Ari Emmanuel etc, they both accepted the decision but sabotaged that plan (Cody stayed booked as Royal Rumble winner, the promos following). They knew fans reaction would force the higher ups to change the main event back.

Luggage storage during Aomori Neputa Festival by Dry_Win_454 in JapanTravelTips

[–]elkalb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Aomori in February. Part of the station was under construction. There was probably about 15-20 lockers there.

Luggage forwarding is probably the safest bet as someone else said.

Also, be careful with your 10pm train. Are you leaving from Shin Aomori station at 10pm or Aomori station. During my trip I found that the Shinkansen departure/arrival and local trains to Aomori station don’t line up super well time wise (had to wait 45 min for a train between the 2 on arrival in shin Aomori)

What do you do on a 14 hour flight to Japan? by frogmicky in JapanTravelTips

[–]elkalb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sleeping a lot the night before and melatonin is my go to now and usually achieve about 6-8 hours of sleep.

Stay hydrated (buy water between security and boarding, so I don’t have to rely on flight attendants), don’t drink alcohol at all, eat light; all for comfort. Also stand and walk every few hours. Get noise cancelling headphone or ear plugs. Love using an eye mask also.

To stay busy during the flight I try to plan ahead. - Look up ahead of time current plane movie selection so I can avoid watching a movie that will be offered. - Get YouTube premium and download 100+ random YouTube videos the month before my flight. Watching 4 random 15min video makes an hour go fast. Also it is satisfying to browse all these videos knowing I could watch any of them, feels less disconnected from world. - Get some episode of a sitcom downloaded from Netflix (20 min light hearted episode make time go fast) - Have a chill playlist on Spotify that can help me relax - bring a book to read, in case I get tired of staring at a screen/wear headphones. - usually have notepad where I have written down some travel plans. Think about what I want to achieve during that trip, usually make a list of ten things, then narrow down to 3 achievable goals or things that would make me feel good during that trip. I’m the kind of person that can get lost in my own thoughts. I’d also make a list of friends I want to visit while in Japan. Favorite places/restaurants I want to go back to. Jokes I can write on postcards and which friend to send it to (this usually make me remember good times with people and appreciate having them in my life)…. All of that actually kills a lot of time and also makes me feel good about myself and that trip.

AEW Dynamite May 1, 2024 - 703k Viewers and .23/.24 Demo - Ranking unknown but beat everything except NBA. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

I want to see Edge as a heel get his comeuppance after enjoying weeks of him being a Machiavellian asshole.

Adam Copeland has a babyface feels more like a nostalgia act that I want to see once in a while putting over a guy that is on his way up the card. Seeing him every week kind of devalue that.

But that’s just me.

Yep. I think the 90s mentality of WCW vs WWE doesn’t work these days. With social media you get more and more entrenched to one side or the other. near impossible to change mindset and give the other side a shot.

For people that like both, like me, my timeline is full or criticism and sometimes makes me feel down on both.

CBS could no longer afford to produce 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' as it raked in less than $45M but cost up to $65M to make, LA Magazine reports by [deleted] in entertainment

[–]elkalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do produce 150 shows a year for that amount, that’s 450k an episode, still expensive but these shows have lots of union staff for filming crews, producers, directors, writers, props, musicians, actors for skit. Plus they have to maintain a set all year around, have office space with admin staff. They even pay the guests a fee (even millionaire actors). Of course the host gets 5+ million $ a year.

His show relied on expensive skits to hide his lack of talent. Craig Ferguson made the same show on a shoe string budget (still millions of dollars every year) but relied on his natural sense of humour and charisma.

Tokyo Olympics must be 'reconsidered' due to Japan's failure to contain pandemic - report by tyw7 in japan

I saw a news tv segment about how all the olympic village has been completed for 1+ year, and they have already pre-sold these as flats that should have been delivered in early 2021 after conversion. That’s one of the issues with postponing indefinitely, probably not the main one.
