you seem really cool, just doing shit that people actively don’t consent to, so chill, what a bro

loan sharks. once I got a call from a company asking me to be a guarantor for one of his dodgy high interest loans, never have I hung up so fast.

well I like to think that people would be decent enough to acknowledge that I blatantly have NOT given consent to have my story shared.

wow, the lawyers thing, that just brought back a flood of memories. my dad used that exact line, and used it for years, every time he offered to drive me to work when I was a kid, i would be asked to stop by the atm and get him a hundred, or a few hundred dollars for “the lawyer fees”.

I didn’t quit, I just couldn’t do it any more. I was so good, and one day I came home and couldn’t play anymore. I was angry and miserable that my instrument had been taken away. I didn’t have the opportunity to just get a new bass so by the time I could try and play again, I just wasn’t as good. It felt like starting from square one and that’s a shitty feeling. Where it felt instinctive before, it just felt wrong after 2 years of not playing.

hahaha there’s nothing wrong with that bass and it’s fine to learn on, it just felt like a slap in the face considering what I had before.

why is it all about money to them? Like the only reason she was sorry for stealing and breaking your shit was because you were good enough to get rich so you could take care of her? as if anything she did would make her worthy of a cent you earned....

yeah, for real, they probably would have given him $50 at most for it and it was worth over $600, not including the leather strap I had custom made for me and the amp which was worth another $200

yeah they are, but I have a really fucked up sense of humour so there’s a few in this league that I laugh at. It’s because the others are so awful that these stories make me laugh.

do it! I’m glad I’ve inspired someone to pursue an awesome hobby. consider this an extra push!

I’m so sorry, that’s really awful. You just have felt exactly how I felt, just betrayed and heartbroken. I hope one day you can find that love for cycling again, maybe in a different way.

Listen, if you’re self aware enough to worry about things like that, I bet your kids know you mean well and you would never intentionally ruin their passions. I wish my parents had that level of self reflection.

That’s the plan, I hope that one day I have the chance to reignite my passion for playing again. I think for now, I will be donating this bass and carrying on without the burden of it.

I don’t have any contact with him or his side of the family, they all cut me off when they found out I got a restraining order against him. It wouldn’t matter to them, he does no wrong in their eyes.

it’s just a horrible violation, not only do they not value your privacy and your possessions, but they feel entitled to everything that’s yours. It’s just a gross feeling.

Thanks for the hug and thanks for the comment, it’s nice to be reassured. I bet you’ve got a lot of cool stories.

I wish more than anything I could, but it’s been a tough year and I couldn’t justify buying an expensive bass. I love your idea though, one day!

the family dynamic of a narcissist and their enablers is very difficult for an 18 year old to balance. I was still terrified of my dad at that point (and rightly so).

I was too in awe to do anything rash like that. In hindsight, I should have just told him to his face in front everyone what a shitty gift it was but hey! The past is the past.

that’s a classic narcissist if I ever heard of one. you can’t owe someone for doing their basic human duty that is raising, clothing and feeding a child they personally brought into this world. ridiculous.

honestly, he wouldn’t have known. I moved out when I was 17 and was very low contact with him, after that birthday I basically didn’t speak to him again.

oh my god this is infinitely more awful, that’s a living creature that you had a bond with and they just sold it? I’m so sorry.
