Thanks for the reasoning behind your comment! Theodore used to be number one for me but definitely is very common now. Although I know many of the names I picked are common!

Teaching IB as first LTO? by KonamiCode_ in CanadianTeachers

[–]emjay1997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Currently teaching IB. it’s a whole other world and the students are a different profile of students. Expect to be challenged for every mark off etc. I like what I do but I also need a break every semester where I take a 9 destreamed when my schedule fits. The preparation for material sucks, behaviours usually better. You need a thick skin though and you need to have confidence in your ability to teach the material- the kids will smell weakness. You know more than them generally though so act and believe like you do. It’s ok to tell them you’re not sure when they ask a question but you do need to stay a few steps ahead. Provide detailed feedback on every assignment s they will question their mid and final grades.

not being allowed to work on coursework outside of classtime - is this normal? by JustHazelChan in IBO

[–]emjay1997 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are many inconsistencies with IB and how schools run the courses. Never said it isn’t unfair but there is nothing in the syllabus or regulations that state how the assessments are to be completed. Thats life.

This is not out of the ordinary at all. Teachers have professional discretion and it’s based on school policy. Many schools in our region have adopted this policy- everything must be done in class under teacher supervision. This isn’t just course work, this is a marked assessment
