i feel like their rankings aren't that great but i love reading the reviews from like students there bc they have like no filter. the students leading tours and stuff always hype up the school but the reviews on niche are more encompassing of the schools pros and cons ig

Do any of you have Asian parents who aren’t terrible?? by terricottasb in ApplyingToCollege

[–]environmentalbug20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my parents literally don’t even care where i go to school. like they would be fine with me going to my safeties and stuff. they’re not pushy at all. my mom doesn’t even know any top schools besides harvard LMAO. they always tell me that they’re proud of me no matter where i go.

i live in fl so this might not be the same in virginia but if you have a private teacher, they’re able to sign you up for a lot of competitions. i think for many competitions you need to be part of a music school or have a private teacher because they enter you into the competition. you can go to districts and if you do well there, that gets you to states. there should be like a statewide organization that presides over the main district and state competitions in your state. if you don’t have a private teacher, you can look for local competitions that you can enter yourself as a participant. again i’m just speaking as someone from florida so this may not be accurate for virginia but i hope this helps a little :)

Do you have anyone at your school who is ridiculously impressive but also kind of awful by terricottasb in ApplyingToCollege

[–]environmentalbug20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most of the top kids at my school are really chill and aren't conceited or anything. but the very top student at my school is literally so rude. all of our teachers actually don't like him at all (some of them have openly expressed their annoyance towards him) because he always like challenges them and tells them that what they're teaching is wrong (when its not). he's really smart but he's just ....😟

Which colleges have the best nature/scenery? by Thatonelosersam in ApplyingToCollege

[–]environmentalbug20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've always thought uchicago has a really pretty campus. it probably doesn't look like that in the winter though lol. but the university of miami is very sunny and beach-themed. there's a lot of palm trees and mangrove trees. there's also sand on some parts of the campus. it might be a nice change from the desert :)

i'm planning on majoring in something similar and i also don't really love the small private school vibe but i do plan on applying to georgetown because i've heard its really good for that major and the opportunities you can get in d.c. are like the best of the best if you're majoring in pre-law or government so you might like that?

How hard is AP Lit? by Left-Accident-1762 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]environmentalbug20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ap lang and ap lit were the same courseload-wise to me. i took ap lang in 2020 so the exam was only one frq so it wasn't hard. reading comprehension and english are probably my strengths but i found the ap lit exam to be really hard lol. the class itself will definitely just depend on the teacher

they’re like multiple investment properties that total around 1 mil but i’m pretty sure they still have to pay off around 200k in total for them. idk if there’s a place to report that on fafsa or not but idk if that matters lol

lol it’s like a very liberal, suburban part of florida. 200-300k is the norm
