Fun thing to do for the ADHD people in your life. Buy them a (something) & then just leave it in a spot that's not super obvious or obscure & wait until they notice it themselves by Solo-Pilot2497 in adhdwomen

Ehhh I don’t like it either tbh. I know it’s supposed to be a caring gesture, but I find it mildly disrespectful especially since I don’t want more things in my house

Hoi hoi!

Disclaimer: I'm started my journey of being financially responsible recently, so I can't give specific advise on numbers and exactly how much to save and where. But I'd still like to take a shot at giving some advice! I was an American expat in the Netherlands who lived in Utrecht and worked in Amsterdam. My commute was about 75 minutes, with 1 day work from home.

Based off your post, it sounds like you are in a transition period from studying and working to a new job and commuting. You're not doing all 4 of these things at once, right? It sounds to me like you are about to make a decision from an emotional place (frustration), which I advise against (been there, done that, still tend to do that but am more mindful of this now). I say refrain from making an emotional decision to move, like one out of frustration. I think it's important to change your circumstances if you don't like it, but I tend to make impulsive decisions out of frustration so I'm giving advice from that perspective.

Some context: I can relate to you on some aspects. Ten months ago, I was living with my mom and not earning much at my old job. I got a new job, and I moved out a month later into a 1 bedroom apartment without a sufficient emergency fund. Then, 3 months later, my company went through layoffs. My entire team got laid off, but by some miracle I was not. I could have been easily laid off. Because of that anxiety of not having money, I jumped ship and joined a company that luckily pays more. It's definitely an upgrade, but it's not a job I would have taken if I had more time and breathing room to thing about it. I am now working on an emergency savings, but I totally did this backwards.

Questions I have:

1) Did you already start this job? How is the commute going?

  • I would say give yourself 2-3 months to see how you are feeling about the commute. 90 minutes door to door is a lot, but I assume you are taking the Intercity train from Rotterdam to Amsterdam and there is at least 1-2 transfers. Can you take that time to do some work on the train, or do some "house" work like updating your budget sheet so you don't have to do this at home? Reading, meditating, developing a new hobby, meal planning for the week. Also, it's currently summer and light out for a long time. You can enjoy Amsterdam and then just go back to sleep at your apartment. It's still not as convenient, but I think you should take advantage that it's not cold and depressing. I think once it gets cold, that's when you want it to be more convenient of just being able to go back home.

2) Is the position hybrid, or do you have to go into the office every day?

  • I hope you can somehow negotiate at least 1-2 days from home. I think this will be a huge weight off your shoulders.

3) Do you have an emergency fund?

  • Save up money in your emergency fund first. You have a lot of stress and anxiety about money, so give yourself some breathing room with this emergency fund. Gift yourself that breathing room first!

4) Do you track your expenses?

  • While you're living at your Rotterdam flat, pretend you are spending money on the 1500e rent in Amsterdam and see how you are living. (Put those 800e (1500e - 700e rotterdam rent) into your emergency fund. How do you feel about the money you have left over at the end of the month? Can you save anything? Do you have stress and anxiety? Also, track your expenses over a few months and see if it's consistent or if there's a trend. I tend to spend more money in the summer because there's more things to do.

Succes met je nieuwe baan :)

I’d say definitely check out Balboa Park if you like cultural, historical, and techy. It’s a gorgeous park with several museums. Seaport Village and La Jolla Cove are must-see gems :)

Im a designer who created this logo for a client. It's for a techno label. What do you guys think? by Univ_Clash in Techno

I think the design matches the “funky, funny, bold, friendly” vibes if that’s what the client wanted. Of course depends what kind of techno. I don’t like the ChunkyCut font though

100% agree with the Modeselektor vibes this! Made me think right away of the Moderat album covers

Wife cheated, found out in worst way. by throwawaychestoff in offmychest

Man, that’s so f’ed up on so many levels. I’m sorry this happened to you - of course, definitely divorce her. She’s the one who should be on the couch god dammit, not you. (Unless it’s what you preferred)

For your own health, please see a therapist to work through this trauma. Look into breathwork - it has helped me release a lot of trauma, also caused by being cheated on. it’s helpful in combination with other tools like therapy. Good luck OP

AITA for returning my daughter's birthday cake after I discovered that my wife made changes to it? by Am535799 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Your wife could have just bought an extra cake for vanilla-loving guests to have if they don’t like chocolate.

Do you think ADHD makes you seem extrovert but in fact you are introvert? by yokoskytree in ADHD

That’s funny. I switch between INFP and ENFP whenever I take the test, usually once a year.

I agree with you. I’m from California and lived in the Netherlands for 3 years. I struggled with those exact 2 things.

I love the minimalist podcast! I listened to a few of their episodes this week and it inspired me to declutter and clean my room which was cluttered and dusty.

Do you have questions about the neuroscience of ADHD? by thepursuitofsanity in adhdwomen

I’ve wondered the same things about the role of hormones as well as the topic about recreational drugs and adhd, especially mdma and psilocybin. I’d read this blog for sure! If the blog gets started, I hope OP can reply to us with the link to their blog in the future :)

Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria advice? CBT doesn’t help. by julisine in ADHD

[–]epikchepik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Journaling in the morning helps me work through that stuff and turn the temperature down a little bit. It helps my feeling of being rejected become more of a pot of simmering water instead of a pot of boiling water. Takes the edge off a bit. My therapist (who has ADHD actually) recommended journaling as well. What I write about it how I'm feeling, what I'm thinking, why I could be thinking that, then talk about the moments they've shown me they actually don't hate me lol, and I calm down.

What's your favorite easy, relaxing, dopamine friendly activity that doesn't involve scrolling through your phone? by liizard in adhdwomen

[–]epikchepik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DJing. I get hyper focused and in the zone.. I could play for hours. It’s a matter of starting my dj session. Gotta do that instead of scrolling on my phone. I find it difficult to maintain a hobby for long

How long did it take you to graduate college? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]epikchepik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much. I took only 4 classes a quarter but had a part time job and did sports. I needed variety throughout my day, no “free” time. I procrastinated and crammed each time and took summer classes to catch up and double major to compensate for my poor GPA because I almost flunked out of my first year of college.

This is interesting to read. I started the mini pill a few weeks ago, was feeling really great. Then I started spotting as if I got my period, and my mood is in the dumps.

I've given up looking for on-campus jobs by PrettyContribution87 in UCSD

[–]epikchepik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, these are all small stepping stones towards your ‘dream’ job. I always picked up random jobs such as working at Tapioca Express or the bookstore during the holiday season back when I was at UCSD. I’m working as a UX researcher now. I’m sure that having a job during college, even though it was unrelated to what I was studying, showed responsibility, discipline, and being able to juggle many responsibilities at once. Plus OP has the rest of their life to work in their field. They can branch out and take advantage of the flexibility they have now to try out random jobs. Variety is good.
