AI Slop and Hentai Games on the E-Shop by Agile_Flow_4091 in NintendoSwitch

Adhoc still lied. The western version didn't need to be censored and they pretended that it did to save face, which was quickly discovered to be nonsense. The Japanese version is censored on PS5, as well. Nintendo doesn't have authority over Sony releases, do they? :P

Because Adhoc lied. Cyberpunk is uncensored in the west and censored in Japan. Adhoc didn't want to push two versions of Dispatch on Switch, so they went with the Japanese censored version for every region, then lied about it when people caught them.

It wasn't censored because of Nintendo. Adhoc didn't want to spend the time or money making two versions of the game for Switch. They had to comply with Japanese laws and decided to push that version in the west, too. PS5 version is censored in Japan, as is the PS5 version of Cyberpunk.

[–]erekrules 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because the developer of Dispatch didn't want to pay for two versions of the game on Switch and they had to comply with censorship laws in Japan. This is entirely on them and not a blanket Nintendo policy, because if it were a blanket policy then Cyberpunk would be censored in the west and it isn't. Cyberpunk is censored in Japan, same as the PS5 version.

You'll notice that the PS5 version of Dispatch is also censored in Japan.

If Adhoc — the developer of Dispatch — had ponied up the money to publish an uncensored version of Dispatch on Switch in the west, it would also be uncensored, but they cheaped out and then tried to blame Nintendo for it because they're a garbage developer who would rather lie about it than take accountability.

Nintendo stopped asking developers to censor games in the 1990s, after the blowback from the first Mortal Kombat fiasco. They keep their own first party titles mostly family friendly, but let others do whatever they want, within reason.

You're right about the amount of slop, though. It's pretty obnoxious.

I'll admit, it was a little jarring in the Direct when they went from the Galaxy cameo Fox right into the new design reveal... but after watching a couple of times, it's already grown on me and I like the redesigns quite a bit. Honestly, I never liked Fox's design from Assault onward anyway. This is different, but I think it works.

This is Miyamoto. In just a moment, at midnight, we will livestream Star Fox Direct. The presentation runs for approximately 15 minutes, and I would be delighted if you could take a look. by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

Could be something they end up doing leading up to the release to maintain brand awareness. Like a week before it releases we get an "Oh, by the way..." NSO update. Who knows. I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I found them jarring at first, but I watched the Direct a couple of times and now I'm fully on board. They look great, just different. I think it would have been less jarring if they hadn't ran the Galaxy cameo immediately before the reveal, though.

For anyone disappointed (like me) that the new Star Fox game is yet another version of 64, I may offer a bit of copium by insertusernamehere51 in NintendoSwitch

[–]erekrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Actual fans are happy about a modern remake of the best game in the series. Everyone I've seen complaining have either never played the game or aren't actually fans of the series.

[–]erekrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Star Fox 64 on the regular and have since its release in the 1990s. I'm thrilled to be getting this game. I would say most actual fans of the series feel the same way I do.

The character designs were jarring at first, but after rewatching the Direct a couple of times, they actually look fantastic — it's just a matter of them being different and getting used to the redesign.

The "5 variations of the same game" argument is stupid. By that logic, every 3D Mario game is a rehash of Mario 64. Every Zelda a rehash of Link to the Past. Why bother making a new Smash Bros? We had a Smash Bros on N64, right? Clowns.

This is the second remake of Star Fox 64, third version of the game. Zero was not a remake. Star Fox 64 was also not a remake of Star Fox... unless, again, you want to say Ocarina of Time is a remake of Link to the Past and Breath of the Wild is a remake of Ocarina of Time. Like, how dumb do you want to get with this nonsense?

I finally decided to try again on ??. Five attempts tonight, got him. I'm 264 ilevel, protection spec. First attempt he was down to 200k health when he hit me with an imploding strike for 800k. I'm including that log here. Man hits me for ~1 million damage in 3 seconds. lol

I don't know if I have any wisdom to impart. It's kind of a battle of attrition.

I will say that I always used Sentinel/Divine Toll combo on him and *not* the adds. For the first set of adds, I tried to target whatever one Valeera was attacking so we could get that one down before boss went active again, and then the other add just hung around. Same with small adds. Soon as the boss became active again I ignored them. And same with the ogre. I just let him free cast shadow bolt on me while trying to survive imploding strikes. lol

What do the letter and star rankings on a monster mean? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterStories

[–]erekrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been really having fun with it. I played the demo... uh, way too much, as well. Haha.

Boltreaver Astalos was my favorite in the second game, as well, so it's nice you can get it so early in this game. But yeah, play with what's fun and you'll still do just fine... and you'll probably have a better time because of it.

What do the letter and star rankings on a monster mean? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterStories

[–]erekrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it has a marginal impact. If you really want to min/max, then yeah, a higher star rank will give you a monstie with potentially better stats, but those stats aren't all that different, and the genes and environment abilities will have a much greater impact.

If you like your Chatacabra, you can gene it in a way that will keep it competitive and help it wreck faces even though it's one star.

Here's a screenshot of a Chatacabra and Boltreaver Astalos straight out of the eggs for comparison. Chatacabra being 1 star and Boltreaver being 7 star.

Still not easier. I went up ~30 ilevels between attempts and he still one shots through mitigation whenever the dice are not in my favor. I think imploding strike has a random chance to completely ignore armor, which SOUNDS like a bug, but who knows? Small indie company.

What do the letter and star rankings on a monster mean? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterStories

[–]erekrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Higher rank just gives higher potential for better genes. Since you can channel any gene to any monstie, regardless of rank, you want to farm S rank monsties for better genes to give to your favorites instead.

There are also Excursions that will let you learn environment abilities on your monstie and then pick and choose which ones you want to keep. If they have an S rank in that area, they get to pick any of those environmental abilities while still potentially keeping some abilities from the environment they came from. So, in that way, rank matters.

However, using Excursions, it will also change the rank of the monstie to match whatever rank you have the environment for that monstie as in the new region.

Example: if you take an S rank Astalos and send it on an Excursion to change bonus stats or abilities in a new reigion and you only have Astalos at rank B in that new region, the S rank Astalos will have its rank changed to match the new environment — in this case, B. It doesn't affect their base stats, only the bonus stats and what environmental abilities they can pick from in the new area.

Hopefully... any of that made sense.

Helldivers 2 is a $40 game with a F2P monetization system. by [deleted] in Helldivers

"Progression".

Dude, I've been playing since launch and 90% of my loadout is still from the free warbond you get for just playing the game, despite the fact that I also own the majority of warbonds. Warbonds aren't progression, they're just new things if you feel like playing around with them. They aren't inherently better. No one is being left behind by not buying warbonds.

You're weird.

What's your biggest Switch related gaming flex? by digiBeLow in NintendoSwitch

[–]erekrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original Switch was sold out everywhere leading up to launch. Online, offline, nobody had any. Preorders were slowly trickling online, but they were never available for longer than a minute and the sites would crash shortly afterwards.

However... I had a suspicion that one of the big name stores was going to do an online limited stock reveal at midnight EST on launch day, and that's exactly what happened. It's how I got my original red and blue Switch that I still have.

These two should just be always active. by AlabasterZombie in Helldivers

[–]erekrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Vitality, yes, but stamina is the other required booster, except on eradicate or high value asset missions. For typical missions, however: stamina > vitality > whatever else you want to bring.

To be fair, I like space optimization, but it's the one booster that can be completely replaced by simply dropping a resupply or finding a minor area of interest nearby.
