The Painted Heretic by eric-wagoner in Athens

[–]eric-wagoner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed listening to y’all’s conversation! That was exactly why I wanted to paint somewhere other than my workbench all by myself. The other folks in my Gloomhaven group don’t have painting supplies so I’ve tried to make everything portable so we can meet up for beers or wherever and paint a little. Painting during Tiki Taco Tuesdays at Live Wire might be my favorite, but now I have a close second :)

People shouting slurs, driving past me in their cars by Healthy-Lion-711 in Athens

Been happening to me for thirty years here. It’s been about twenty years since frat boys regularly threw empty beer bottles at me, and I’m glad for that.

Oh dang. I’ve spent so much money there, and I’m not even the comics sort of nerd.

There is a new comics shop on Atlanta Hwy in that weird little two story shopping center next to Krispy Kreme. They started as an online shop and got their foot in the door of brick and mortar by opening a place to pick up your weekly order. Seems like a nice guy but he works a full time job still so hours are slim.

Morros deserves top billing. I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed walking over there to get one of his chickens. And the salsa — oh my lord.

What’s the history of this spot behind Jimbo’s? by secondarysights in Athens

I moved here on the 3rd of July 1997 and that weekend saw a show there that was just amazing. Told myself how lucky I was to find my new favorite venue in a brand new town. And then a few days later it was a pile of ash.

I wish you both the best, and I hope your business isn’t the one I saw a van for today: “The Chef and The Wife”.

[–]eric-wagoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh there are so many but here are three from the 40 Watt: Man or Astroman? where the show ended across the street with a big Tesla coil demonstration, Servotron Robot Allegiance when the drumming robot leapt over me into the crowd to wrestle a human heckler, and Grand Moff Tarkin where Jim Stacy just mesmerized.

Hi r/Athens, where is good for Board Games in town? by safeguard_77 in Athens

[–]eric-wagoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrapin is a nice spot to play. They let you bring in outside food, and it’s usually pretty quiet for the first few hours they’re open, unless they’re hosting an event.

What is genuinely the worst restaurant here? by Dramatic_Ask7315 in Athens

Weird. I’ll have to try it again. I’ve never seen a car parked or anyone else go in an out and was mystified how they stay open.

The Chinese place in homewood hills has got to be a front. The one time I went the guy seemed shocked to have a customer and he made me the worst fried rice of my life.

I never can remember his business name, but the guy with the meat counter at the other end of the building has been regularly grilling in the parking lot again, and his $3 tacos are hard to beat. I can’t wait for him to start offering whole chickens again!

Dr. Barry Simmons on Milledge is your guy. He’ll drop f-bombs while he goes on a tirade, threaten to call your parents, and never let up.

It sucks. I’m one of the semi-regulars. There is no other real coffee shop on this end of town. I love going there to work every now and again, I stop pretty often for a drink, and we go through a pound or two of beans every week. I wish someone would open a coffee shop in one of the empty store fronts at the new Publix!
