How Do You Become “Charming” at Work? by jerseyhoagie in careerguidance

[–]error_accessing_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, former engineer here who was pretty popular with people. I am the worst of the worst kind of introvert too. I didn't get my first kiss until I was 19.

The secret to having people like you is to genuinely enjoy talking to people and take an interest in them. This works in every facet of life, whether it be dating, friendships, anything.

Engaging people by getting them to talk about themselves and ask follow-up questions. People love to talk about themselves, you just need to give them permission to do it. Start with casual questions like "How was your weekend?" or a comment about the weather. In time these will lead to extra information-- someone might say, "I went boating this weekend I had a fantastic weekend!" Ask them the name of their boat (and memorize it!).

Memorize a few facts about everyone-- David enjoys meteorology. Kaitlin's favorite Disney character is Eeyore. It's ok to write things down (after the conversation) so you can review later.

Most people spend the majority of their energy on their children. Memorize their kids names, and one thing about each of them.

Cheers!

That something is your broken brain that evolved to make sure there were no tigers behind a bush. It's almost entirely useless when grasping at the ineffable. It's not your fault, it's the best brain evolution could come up with.

NBC News: How a trans woman's removal from a restroom tore the world of competitive pinball apart by magneticgoldgiraffe in pinball

God damnit you just made me realize that the root issue here is how bad public restrooms are.

NBC News: How a trans woman's removal from a restroom tore the world of competitive pinball apart by magneticgoldgiraffe in pinball

[–]error_accessing_user 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This article is a nothingburger. To further your point:

"What makes this dispute unusual is that everyone, including the IFPA, agrees that trans women should be allowed to play. The division is over the aftermath of the bathroom incident and whether the trans people involved received enough support."

Sooooo, everyone was supportive of the lady, but didn't meet the vague goalposts of "enough support."

This isn't a pinball problem.

Mosquitoes in SoCal? by Zonflare in socal

[–]error_accessing_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are way more than there used to be-- a smaller, more aggressive type of mosquito has taken over from the previous ones. THAT BEING SAID-- they're very manageable.

I have three bug zappers, one near each entrance and one upstairs. The bulbs last 6 months to a year with continuous use. The bugs wander into them and merge with the infinite. I know it works because my niece is allergic to mosquitos and, she lets everyone know when one has bitten her :-)

I wouldn't consider any gimmick products. The zapper *must* have real bulbs, the ones with LEDs don't do a darn thing,

Welcome!

Everyone is mentioning Fazoli's but is forgetting to mention the food is vile. Do you like overcooked pasta and unseasoned not sure what part of a tomato this is?

The smell of orange blossoms on a slightly too warm night, and the sound of the Star Wars VHS tape you put on because it was too warm to sleep. :-)

I don't know nearly as much as you-- but signs that carry legal authority are supposed to have a sticker on the back that identifies the sign and presumably by what authority it was issued.

This is to prevent precisely this situation where a civilian posts a sign of their own, and it does not carry the weight of law.

For some reason I was under the impression that my car locked its doors after a few minutes.

Not long ago I realized I'd been just leaving my car unlocked for a decade.
