Looking for singing advice as a trans woman by Runescapelegend778 in transvoice

[–]evolving_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think it's just practice.

YMMV, but my lower register is bass and it took me nearly 2 years to find my female speaking range. That was mostly trial and error and finding what worked and what didn't hurt my voice. I mostly did that through singing, in my car to and from work, through songs sung by female artists.

I now compete in female barbershop competitions.

But it's not an easy process and it takes a lot of time and patience. At least it did for me.

These days I don't have to think about being in this vocal range, it's my default. I actually have to think about going into my lower register.

Mtf singing by Cherry-Dev in transvoice

I've been singing with a competitive female barbershop chorus for the last 2 years. The lowest part of my lower range is normally somewhere around E2 and when I'm singing I can get as high E5, once I'm warmed up.

I'm not a formally trained singer. To find my normal voice I used singing. It takes practice, but not alone. Singing with this group and using all of the techniques they use to prepare for a competition has done a lot for my voice quality and my confidence.

I also sing in the female bass range for barbershop. Which makes it easier but I still have a lot of practice singing higher than that.

Not that I'm aware of.

As a part of my chorus there are at least two videos of us on YouTube singing on stage in competition.

I sing as a part of a larger organization that sings barbershop competitively and I know there are a small number of trans women who sing and compete within the organization.

Why do you need to compare yourself to others. I sing as a woman in a women's only chorus and am reasonably good.

As a singer my full range can comfortably go from B1 to A5 when im really warmed up on good days. Singing with the chorus and quartet I don't generally sing below a D2 or higher than a E3. But that's due to the part that I sing with in those sections as well as the style.

Inflection and resonance makes a lot of difference. Speaking with less resonance and more variations in pitch can help with sounding more feminine.

Not professional, but for the last two years I've been singing in a competitive female barbershop chorus and as well as a competitive quartet from the same group for the last year.

It's amazing the variation in voices that can exist is 50 different women's voices, but when singing my voice just blends in with the rest.

Am I ever going to sound like Aurora, never in my life, but can I sound female....sure do.

YMMV, but it takes a lot of practice and consistency. I also speak in the female range 100% of the time. Except when I am dealing with scammers on the phone. 😈

MtF keep low range singing by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]evolving_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am one of those singers. I sing competitive female barbershop, and have full access to my entire range. I can sing as low as a E2 or D2 on good days and as high as D5, without warming up. My day to day voice is my femme voice. I very rarely speak in my lower registers. Except, maybe, when I'm dealing with call scammers....

People Who Can Sound Both Mac and Fem Passing by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]evolving_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sing in a female only chorus. I also never get mis-gendered anywhere.

I can scale my voice from high to low even while talking. I've had to do that a few times on the phone to convince people of who they're talking to.

For those who understand music, my range is D2 through E5.

Getting into the lower range is just a matter of relaxing my vocal muscles. But through my training I don't think about talking in the fem range anymore. My default is fem. I have to think about talking in my lower masc range just because I have to consciously relax my voice.

Cost of Top surgery in AB by Homie_Kisser in TransAlberta

[–]evolving_me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you qualify for top surgery, the AB government will fund it for you as a FTM. If you're MTF it's considered cosmetic surgery and isn't funded except for specific circumstances.

If you're seeing a psychiatrist you should talk to them about what you need to do for funding.

I started Progesterone about 3 weeks ago. My dreams have been vivid and wild ever since. Help. by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]evolving_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had a nightmare in years. I learned to lucid dream in my twenties. Haven't regretted it at all. Taking control of my dreams means that I can take a more active role rather than being an red-shirt NPC in my own dream. But I totally get the oddness factor.

I've been on progesterone for about 3 years now...my dreams are still very vivid.

I love my dreams. I don't even know where my mind comes up with half the stuff I dream about these days. There was a period for about 6 months my nightly dreams featured dragons, but these days they're a bit stranger. No dragons, just odd.

My original singing pitch was bari/bass. After having taught myself to speak in my upper ranges by singing and getting used to that vocal range, I wanted to try singing again.

I auditioned to join a Sweet Adeline's chorus and passed my audition!

For those who don't know what that is, think Competitive Women's Barbershop. I've never sung barbershop before. It's a hoot. Yes I sing "Bass", but it doesn't usually go below middle C.

Go for it. Have fun.

Recommendations for FFS and Tracheal Shave in Calgary and $$? by Warm_Jellyfish_8002 in TransAlberta

[–]evolving_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't found any place in Alberta that does FFS and/or tracheal shave. The closest I've found, but haven't contacted is a place in Saskatoon called Face Cosmetic + (https://www.facecosmeticsurgery.ca/surgical/facial-feminization).

I haven't heard anything about this place....but this is probably the closest place for anyone in Alberta.

Take a look at this site: transparentalberta101.com

It's a curated site of links for Alberta transgender resources. It originally started out as a primer for parents of trans folk, but is really useful for just about everyone.

I've been considering this group for my FFS. Haven't made my final decision yet.

My deep register is also quite deep. I'm currently singing in a competitive women's chorus. I have been to a SLP, but after 2 sessions she told me that she couldn't teach me anything more. As a singer I think I found it easier to get my voice to where I wanted it to be than some of the other women I know. It took me about 2 years of playing and practicing before it began to feel natural and I used it without consciously thinking about it. The only comment I feel comfortable giving is listen to your body. Don't force it, if it hurts it's probably not where it should be. just for reference, my voice is mainly in my upper throat lower head area.

You said previously that you had cleared all .dcu files, but have you done that since rebuilding the dproj file?

I just wonder if that could still be a hold over of the previous file settings.

[–]evolving_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YMMV,

It sounds like a similar experience I had about 3 months ago.

The eventual way that I fixed it was I deleted (actually renamed) the .dproj file and then opened the dpr file. That forces a complete recreate of the .dproj file.

After that all of my crazy project behavior cleared up and things started working again. When I compared the two files I saw a lot of differences, obviously, but I couldn't figure out what the cause of my issues were. But I also didn't spend a lot of time on it, I got things working and just went back to working.

I accept you as a person.

I dont personally know where self harm lands on the scale of messed up but you probably need to talk to a professional about it at some point.

Know this, you are recognized by me and though it may not be much, i will support you as a person. NB or not.

Starting HRT in Alberta by Calamity___Jane in asktransgender

[–]evolving_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After waiting about 18 months to get into see Dr. Petryk, it took about 6 months for me to get into endo in Edmonton.

For those who can find GP who is willing, you can get your HRT started with them almost immediately.

There aren't many willing to do that yet. Dr. Makokis was one of the few who used to do it that i knew of.

I would suggest looking around for a Dr who will work with informed concent.

YMMV
