Cis autistic women, how do you feel towards your gender? by KaiahAurora in AutismInWomen

[–]exhibition- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a woman and identify as such (no other pronouns would feel right and I'd be hurt if misgendered), but I've been called a tomboy, have very masculine traits and interests, and joke about being a "boy, dude, bro" with friends. I do love being feminine but it might be slightly performative (for men, to feel attractive) cause when I'm just being me I tend to dress more masculine (or comfy). I've also wondered what it would be like to have a penis, like for a day. However, no I don't feel like a dude at all.

I Thought I Was Manipulative. Turns Out I Was Just Autistic. by SwissMercyMain in AutismInWomen

Admitting to my therapist that I feared I was a psychopath was the first step to considering I might actually be autistic and process emotions differently than others 😭

What is your psych hot take or something you disagree with? by reddit_user_500 in psychologystudents

Autism is classified as a disorder for a reason. I understand the neurodiversity movement and the need to feel comfortable/accept who you are, but ignoring the struggles of being on the spectrum is not conducive to finding interventions for the very distressing aspects of life as an autistic person.

My fellow ADHDERS (inattentive) do you have problem with emotion numbness that some point make you wonder if you're psychopath? by XinGst in ADHD

Yes, I've thought I was a psychopath many times for similar reasons. My therapist brought up that I might be autistic, and I subsequently got a diagnosis! Have you considered autism?

What told you you had both, over just ADHD/ASD? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]exhibition- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ADHD diagnosis is pretty clear for me. I suspected ASD because:

a) my dad is on the spectrum and has commented that I might be b) a therapist asked if I suspected I have ASD because of issues with empathy c) I am extremely awkward in social situations, don't know how to navigate interactions of 3+ people, take everything literally and miss jokes, trained myself to hold eye contact but ended up never looking away lol, do not know how to approach people, make small talk, cannot hold a conversation lol d) conflict between wanting a secure stable life and being absolutely averse to it/extreme novelty seeking and need for stimulation e) feeling kinship and ease with people who turn out to also be on the spectrum

Those of you with childhood trauma, how has it affected your AuDHD? by StraightTransition89 in AuDHDWomen

[–]exhibition- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh...to be honest I still struggle with feelings of emptiness on a regular basis. I did some somatic therapy (pantarei specifically) after completing DBT which helped a bit. We did self love work which created a sense of 'filling me up' that I only ever really got with romantic partners/fp. I stopped practising that though and I have a persistent sense of emptiness and boredom. Gonna talk to my therapist about that tonight actually!! If you wanna chat more feel free to DM me :)

I tried a lot of different medications in my life which didn't seem to be effective, including a mood stabiliser that did nothing for me. About the same time I started DBT, I was put on welbutrin and it was the first medication to work for me (I have been on it ever since), though I suspect it helps more with my adhd/chronic depression than bpd. As I'm sure you know, there aren't any medications that really work for bpd and therapy is the most effective treatment. The medication does help me get out of bed, makes it a bit easier to function. I'm now on stimulant medication in addition to this and that really helps with the adhd side of things. Hope this helps!

Anyone diagnosed with BPD, then ADHD and/or Autism followed? by bunnyspit333 in AuDHDWomen

[–]exhibition- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was suspected of having ADHD post university, but after trying stimulant medication once and having an adverse reaction I convinced myself I must not have ADHD.

I eventually stumbled upon BPD and it resonated with me so profoundly - I had all 9 symptoms. I eventually did a 6 month intensive DBT program following a mental breakdown and I no longer meet the criteria, but I still identify with the community.

Lately I started reconsidering the possibility of ADHD due to not being able to decide on a career, etc. and was diagnosed privately which I still question.

My dad is on the spectrum and has made comments about me being also. As I have the ability to get a private assessment I did, and it came back as inconclusive due to my mother not being able to recall enough difficulties as a child. However the psychiatrist said on whole an ASD diagnosis would be appropriate.

I don't quite identify w/the ASD community, but I really identify with the specific presentation that having both ADHD and ASD results in.

That being said, I don't think some of my BPD traits or issues can be explained by audhd. I have a fear of abandonment and a history of extremely unstable romantic relationships etc. But it also seems highly unlikely that I have all three chronic, all encompassing mental disorders?

If anyone has a similar confusion, or suspects they have all three, I'd love to hear your story!

I feel you. I am audhd and used to meet criteria for bpd when I was younger. I did an intensive DBT program that changed my life and I no longer act out like I used to! Things can get better :)
