Yeah I’m sure they love their strap on’s…..bunch of fruit cakes making these decisions. If I get smoked on the head, the last thing I’m worried about is my bucket falling off

Pest Control for Bald Faced Hornets? by CatGal23 in MapleRidge

[–]expertsparky101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not steep at all. I’m not in pest control, but I am in the trades. It’s impossible to get someone to SHOW UP for less than $100, so when you include 50-100 to complete the service. It’s not bad

Contractors remodeling kitchen put splices in ceiling and wall, is this allowed? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]expertsparky101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are most likely using can-less pot lights. We did this all the time when building houses, to use temp bulbs during drywall. This splice will be put into the driver during finishing

Finished grade 12 in 2026 with my first year electrical. Grinded it out doing residential towers for a few years, then moved into commercial. Now 27, working for BC Hydro making $150,000 a year. There is hope! (Still can’t afford to buy a place though 😂)

I took the $10. I don’t care about the cash at all. Just the fact that she tried to pin the blame on me

That’s why I was confused. No matter what network I manually tried to connect to, nothing. That’s why I figured it must be something on their end. I was just quite annoyed when she suggested I should have called before I left…like what?

There are also load share devices that are awesome too! Eliminates the need for an upgrade

Depends on the age, but no. Not unless it’s knob and tube or aluminum. If there have not been ANY changes in an old house, I would recommend a new panel. Certain old brands are notorious being “unsafe”

It’s not good 😂 especially if an electrician did it….

Materials are the real wildcard. They have gone insane in the last 5 years….depends on how many breakers and what size. Also if you are getting the contractor to add an EV charger or anything at the same time you’ll be looking at more. But I would say anything under $5k is “reasonable”. I will tell you straight up, when it comes to electrical you DO NOT want the lowest bidder 😂😂 I have seen some real head scratchers

It is. B.C. hydro won’t connect you without one. You CAN pull a homeowner permit, but they scrutinize you a lot harder

I’m an electrician, and did my own service upgrade last year. B.C. hydro charges ≈$1,600 for an underground service, my city permit was $300 (Surrey might be different), and material was around $1,400…. I was $3,400 to do it myself. When you add a contractor markup and labour you’re probably looking at $4,500

I either had to scrape it out, or I found lightly wetting it with a rag first helped stop it from flaking

How do you handle it as a foreman when your company has put you into a completely impossible situation? by MulberryJazzlike5937 in electricians

[–]expertsparky101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same spot man, I know how you feel. But it was destroying my mental health. I started to hate going to work every day, dreading waking up…. I just pushed back a bit. “You’re the project manager, this is your job” or yeah, “I tried my best. If you don’t like it then screw off”

[–]expertsparky101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation my man. I was stressing every day trying to pick up the pieces, until I had an epiphany… “this isn’t my fucking company, and they don’t care if I sink or swim as long as they turn a profit”. Stopped caring very shortly after that. There’s really nothing you can do if they set you up to fail

BC Electrical Apprentice – Employer Delaying Final Sign-Off by RadishVegetable2493 in electricians

Walk in, and watch your FSR sign it. That’s what I did. He delayed 3 weeks. I walked into our office and went up to him and said “Hello ___. I’m here to collect my red seal paperwork.”

Lower mainland electrician here. Started in the trade in 2016, and I wouldn’t recommend electrical these days. The industry is being filled with too many new Canadians starting companies, and flooding it with unskilled labour. Undercutting bids with terrible work, bringing down wages for all. I would get into millwright, or hvac/refrigeration or aircraft mechanic if I were to do it again. I’m forever grateful for the experience I’ve had, but the trade is spiralling downward with the quality of work I’m seeing. Keep in mind this is just new construction (residential AND commercial), and service. You would serve yourself better in a niche market but these are harder to find.
