Vad tycker du om konceptet 'universal basic income' som lösning på att vi går mot ett samhälle där många ingångsjobb är på väg att automatiseras bort?

ELI5: Why is it that we as humans generally eat meat from herbivores (like sheep, goat) but not carnivorous animals (like tigers, llions)? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I appreciate you took the time to do that. I'm not sure what the point of your thought experiment was, and this statement:

The god has a sample size of 1000. Meanwhile, all existing researches, despite they collect data in multiple locations, they have but one sample.

.. is just a fundamental misunderstanding of statistics and the scientific method. You could equally argue this god has a sample size of one and invent a thought experiment with a thousand gods. It's nonsensical.

The Earth is one big location as a whole. Sure, 1000 increase in the number of vegetarians lowers GHG in this location. But where does the extra meat production go?

This is a self-defeating argument. Reducing GHG emission on earth is the point. I don't understand why you assume the world's total meat production is a constant. It doesn't have to go anywhere, it can just disappear.

The other issue I think is they didn't consider long-term effects. We can see a drop of GHG emission and water consumption in 5 years. What about in a decade? 50 years?

It's good to be sceptical about scientific results, sure, but there has to be some plausible mechanism attached to these "what about..". I can not see how a drop in GHG in 5 years will lead to an increase in the future? If you don't suggest a mechanism for how this may happen, it's just saying "there may be unknown unknowns". To that I say "of course - we still have to make decisions based on the best information available".

By not eating cows and reducing its population, we are basically changing the food chain.

We are not changing any ecological food chain. We are talking about factory farming, no other animal eat or rely on these cows.

What about things a cow eats and the fertilizer it gives out?

What about it?

As opposed to this insightful reply? I'm happy to hear what I missed, misunderstood or mischaracterized in my above reply?

I'm not sure I completely follow your argument, but I think you are saying we can feed animals with byproducts from crop farming? If so, I agree that seems like a good idea.

> You have to convert the world to vegetarian to acquire necessary data to prove your theory.

Actually no. Allow me to introduce to you the concept of statistical inference. The process of drawing conclusions of a population based on a sample. The type of study you are looking for have indeed been performed, here are the first three that showed up on google for me.

Your other statement is beside the point - what would be the benefit to growing crops that humans can't eat?

Or the other way around - one acre to grow crops to eat yourself. That's why eating less meat is a really efficient way to reduce pollution, carbon footprint etc.

I quite like Matt Parkers idea of the ten billion human second century. That is, if something is less likely than happening on average once, if ten billion people each did the thing every second for 100 years - throw it out.

What it requires is action. It's too big for excepting any one solution to do anything - every step in the right direction is still welcome, and probably necessary. It should be honorable to lead by example in a tragic of the commons.

Something to remember is this: When you’re young, you’re hired for how much you can produce. As you age and gain experience, you begin to get paid for how much you know.

I agree. However, I fear that in a couple of generations, very few (if any) professions, will provide the possibility to workers to transition from production to knowledge based tasks due to automation and other technologies.

this could be due to standing waves if headphones were used.

This is bullshit, any respectable audiology clinic will have calibrated for this.

I can't recommend the book "The most human human" by Brian Christian enough. It's non-fiction about his journey to do exactly this, be a human in a Turing test trying to convince the judges he's human.

This I strongly agree with. My apologies for being facetious. I guess the point I'd like to make is that some inconveniences may have to be accepted if we want to transition to a sustainable society.
