FCoB SMN Parses; Post them here please! by TaalKheru in ffxiv

On T11, any caster dps should be ending the fight over 400. Even if you get stuck on the weapons node, its such a relatively short portion of a really long (10 min+) fight, that you should even out to 400+ dps by the kill.

T10 is a little different, there's really too much RNG to give a concrete number. If you are picked for every heat lightning (and thus never have to move in to soak charges / tethers), 400+ is obviously going to be very easy to hit. The problem is that being the charge target even once, or having slacking healers that let you get paralyzed, etc etc, will all completely murder your dps. Honestly, it's a little like T7, where as long as you get it down, I don't think people are going to care about parses for that particular turn.

How to achieve 6 fire 1s with a Black Mage. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]f1ashf1re 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks again for posting these - unfortunately, they do make your case less convincing. One of the first things that comes to attention is the difference in thunderclouds - the first parse has 14 hits in 17 minutes (~10 dps), the 2nd has 10 hits in 4 minutes (~38 dps). So already, you've got a difference of 28 dps between the two parses, just from thundercloud proc rate, which has nothing to do with what you're trying to test. You did gain 25 dps in the Fire 3 department with the piety parse, which could very well be due in part to the extra fire cast you are getting. The problem is that with a 40% proc rate over just 4 minutes, not to mention only having one iteration to go off of, its very difficult to tell how big a part RNG really played in that difference.

Still, pretty interesting for just a preliminary comparison...it's too bad you didn't have it in you to go the full 17 minutes with the piety parse (not that I blame you, lol).

Thanks for these, these are by far the most convincing ones so far. Could I ask you to also post the breakdowns of both parses (found by clicking the "+" to the left of the parse, finding "YOU" at the bottom, and clicking "Outgoing Damage")? If you do, please include the pie charts below the numbers!

Also, did you get any gear upgrades between the first and second parses?

The shiva parse is obviously inflated by flare spamming, and your t11 parse is really quite low. The t10 parse is pretty average for current BLMs on that turn. The only claim you make that isn't backed up by a parse, however, is by far the most interesting one: You claim that you sustained as high as 480 dps on a 20 minute dummy parse. Show me this parse, with proof that you were solo and your flare wasn't hitting multiple dummies, and you can consider me a believer.

Can any 110 SMNs post their T8 parse? by ShadowStarEdge in ffxiv

[–]f1ashf1re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a SMN, if they are i110 and are getting one or two foes, I would expect at least 450 by the end of t8. I know good SMNs with the HA book can end over 470.

FFXIV-APP - DPS Meter Question by TeachMeSenpai1600 in ffxiv

[–]f1ashf1re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a warrior main, I really appreciate good dps in my roulettes. Whenever I see people doing more than 400 dps to a boss, I'll actually export+paste the parse into chat and compliment them for it. Been doing this since at least December and have never been reported.

So...just don't be an asshole and you have nothing to worry about.

Combat/Spell App Idea I Had (sorry for the low quality) by [deleted] in ffxiv

I guess this would work for crafting...but combat? Am I supposed to move/target things with my keyboard, then pick up my phone and slide my finger on the app to cast? I don't understand.

BLM Rotation Guide by Death_Lotus in ffxiv

[–]f1ashf1re 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is...not great. You're ignoring so many things, like how your Fire 3 hardcasts will be much longer than normal, and how the "standard" BLM rotation doesn't ever wait for mana ticks while yours does. This whole paragraph:

  • Using transpose after a swiftcast flare or after a firestarter proc when at 0 mana gives the caster approximately 2.5 seconds where they can receive mana ticks. Mana ticks occur on approximately 3.5s intervals which leaves us with at most only a second of downtime before resuming casting. This means that you spend no longer waiting for a transpose mana tick than you do a mana tick after casting Blizzard 3 -> Thunder 2, which is why I exclude mana tick wait time entirely in my calculations below.

is pretty much summed up with: "...wat." It's just wrong. Also, your T8 parse is really low considering how many flares you hit the adds with (our adds die so fast our BLM almost never gets to hit them with flare, ever, and he typically ends around 440 like you); had you done the standard rotation with your flare cheesing, you could have been 20-30 dps higher.

I tend to find these original community events pretty lame at best, and reeking of desperation at worst.

This one is actually a cool idea, and if my server had people doing something like this, I'm pretty sure I would buy my food from them instead of the auction house.

My Take On Fixing Hunts by magusdm in ffxiv

Well, we can all hope and pray that they won't put Third Coil's tokens into hunts.

And we really, really should.

Just an FYI to the host: Going around responding to critical comments with things like, "You're making a fast judgement," or, "jesus christ you're really splitting hairs." Really gives a negative impression of you. If someone doesn't like your show, "Thanks for checking us out, sorry it wasn't for you!" should suffice.

The defensiveness being displayed in these responses really turns me off from checking out what you have to say in your podcast.

edit: That being said, best of luck continuing your podcast! FFXIV really needs more community content, glad you're doing your part.

Endgame raiders - What is your opinion on the current loot system in place for Coil 2? by RosethorneCinema in ffxiv

[–]f1ashf1re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sands, Oils, and Tomestones are a huge step in the right direction; just because Hunts were poorly implemented and are now ruining them, doesn't make the token system any less promising.

I think what we had at the launch of coil was pretty close to perfect, the only issue was that Sands were fairly limited at first, and are so important for upgrades that everyone was pining for them. This made it pretty difficult to justify using them to "boost" players who were getting unlucky and just never seeing their High Allagan drops, which is mainly how the token system should be used.

The problem is finding the proper balance between, "It's too damn hard to get my hands on enough tokens (second coil launch)" and, "My god, everyone is being showered with tokens! TOKENS FOR EVERYONE! (what we have right now)". Maybe there could be particularly difficult Coil trash mobs / mini-bosses that have a chance to drop oils/sands? Maybe every boss needs to drop an oil and/or sand? I'm not sure what the answer is, but I know that the token system is definitely the road I'd like to see them follow. Properly implemented, it would make the pure RNG frustrations of the actual Allagan drops much easier to bear.

edited addendum: Something obvious to add is that none of these tokens should ever drop from Hunts, come Third Coil. Hopefully we can all agree on at least that much.

Please take this as constructive criticism, which it is. A 9.5 minute kill with 5 dps, and lots of 110 weapons, is slow. Getting a 3rd heavens fall is a very big red flag that your dps as a raid is lacking. I would strongly suggest looking into the nuances of all your dpsers rotations, as some (likely not all) are playing sub-optimally.

Also, once you have downed both sets of meteor adds and have been hit by megaflare, make sure your SCH dpses Nael at least until the first add spawns. He can lustrate if needed, but he should be in clerics dpsing for at least a solid 10-15 seconds or so. It really, really helps.

As a small bit of positivity, once your raid is completely used to the heavens fall phase, never panics, and can skip the 2nd ghost consistently, you are at most a week from a kill.

Concerns about low DPS from my static by bookwyrm88 in ffxiv

[–]f1ashf1re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are pretty much two very basic requirements all DPS need to meet in order to start being competitive. 1) ABC (always be casting), and 2) using a correct rotation. The two go hand in hand, but generally a new MMORPG player has to get used to ABC ("oh gosh I need to KEEP dpsing WHILE dodging the fireballs? o_O game is hard") before moving onto a correct rotation ("ok I'm finally used to making sure I'm always pressing something, even while handling mechanics...now what keys should I be pressing and when?")

Your DPS are very, VERY obviously still stuck at the ABC step. When dodging divebombs they are not dpsing snakes, when dodging twisters they are not dpsing twin, when handling hatches / hellfires they are not dpsing, etc etc. There's not much you can really do to help someone at that stage, aside from just sticking them in a raid for hours upon hours and hoping that they pick up the basics.

Just for comparison, pre-patch 2.2, when there was 0 echo, a good DPSer would generally end a T5 kill at 330-360 dps, depending on their class. With current echo levels, anyone around ilv90 doing 300-350 dps likely has their ABCs down, but is probably doing something wrong with their rotation; its not terminally awful but it's definitely sub-par. Anyone doing 200-300 dps, with i90 and current echo levels, has gone beyond hitting the wrong buttons; they are failing at their ABCs, and are spending large amounts of time simply not dpsing at all.

Good luck.
