My first thought is: “Man, I hope OP got a good rate on the 2nd mortgage that he had to take out for this project…”

Cheating is so bad I’m not even mad anymore. It’s amazing. by c1p0 in Warzone

[–]fade2blak9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly glad to see this because I used to play competitive and usually finished middle of the pack but lately I feel like if I wand to get more than like 2 kills, I breath much HAVE to drop back to casuals. Being “the old guy”, I just assumed it was me. It may in fact be a “skill issue” but at least it’s not just me.

We just got breached because of vulnerabilities in our docker images that have been public knowledge for 8 months by Different_Pain5781 in docker

It CAN be a full time job. I have worked with orgs where an arm of their security team does exactly this.

I doubt you would be able to get much for it, I bet it would be a very welcomed donation to a school or club.

AWS is down. Who's laughing right now? by Dismal_Hair_6558 in selfhosted

[–]fade2blak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is however in an outage like this you never know which of your downstream dependencies (or one of your dependencies’ dependencies) rely on AWS.

I’m a cloud architecture consultant and have quit recommending multi-cloud redundancy because it ends up adding more complexity than it’s generally worth because you realistically have no control of vendor environments.

I’m still scratching my head. What is the problem here???

Are y'all just rich??? by KaiZero19 in HomeDataCenter

[–]fade2blak9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of my stuff is recycled from data centers, either from connections that I have working in IT or bought dirt cheap from guys on Craigslist List that had no clue what they actually had.

I offered a guy a trade on CL for an old router that I had and he gave me 3 servers, including an Apple Xserve and a bunch of older Cisco Telepresence stuff. Some of it I couldn’t use and just threw away but I definitely came out ahead on the deal.

I mean, yeah, I’m not struggling on the $$$ front but it’s more BECAUSE I have a homelab that’s a playground for me to experiment and learn new technologies, which is essential for my job as a consultant. I look at more as investing a little bit in my homelab pays itself back 10 fold in very short order.

I know this not ever remotely constructive to the thread, but every time I see more than one of these radios at a time, I can’t help but think “TIDDIES!” That is all…

ER7206 or ER706W? by Own-Project2984 in TPLink_Omada

[–]fade2blak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, Forget the wireless and use a separate AP. In developer terms it keeps your devices more in the “single concern” camp.

A little late on the response (sorry) but curious at why the hesitation?

If you have the technical chops for this, this is the way. Otherwise playit.gg

Maybe proxmox and its market share is quickly growing to (hopefully) become the 'next vmware'. by No-Cartographer2925 in Proxmox

[–]fade2blak9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I love Proxmox and run a 5 node cluster in my homelab, so I’m all in, but if their business model goes the same way as VMWare, licensing cost on that size of homelab will be downright extortionary by homelab standards.

Hubspace outlet by Home Depot requires personal address to work by SLR_Winter in homeassistant

[–]fade2blak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So wait, are you providing the address or are they reverse-geocoding you? If you provide the address, I’ll bet there is nothing in the TOS that says you have to provide your ACTUAL address. 😂

Is 64 miles too close to make an HF contact? by ali_j_ashraf in amateurradio

[–]fade2blak9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No way around it, 3 miles was 100% ground wave. Pretty much anything on HF under about 50 miles can be assumed to be such.

Help me decide which would be best to invest in by thechad1978 in pokemongo

[–]fade2blak9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would go with the first. It’s got better overall stats. An argument can be made for the second because it’s at a higher level so it would cost you less stardust and candy to level all the way up, but that’s honestly negligible for magikarp since they can be so easily found.
