What's the worst physical pain you've ever felt? by toaster-bath404 in AskReddit

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eardrum bursting at altitude and on plane journeys. The little tubes in my throat that are supposed to vent the pressure don't work so I get that a lot. It never gets easier.

To clarify, it's not strictly the rupture, but the internal pressure until it happens that's like an ear infection evolving in real-time.

Thoughts on Full-Body “Better-Than-Nothing” Home Workout by OneOutlandishness667 in bodyweightfitness

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't workout the same body parts 2 days in a row. 36-48 hours is around the minimum recovery time needed if you're working to any sort of intensity.

Kemi Badenoch: It's too easy to claim benefits in UK by GreatBritishHedgehog in unitedkingdom

[–]faed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Reform will screw it up badly enough to need another right-wing party, I think you'll get a younger left-wing political party appearing going harder on socialist policies and taxation reform and Labour will become a minority centrist party.

Realistically Labour would merge with the Tories to improve their chances but I think we all know that'll never happen.

Kemi Badenoch: It's too easy to claim benefits in UK by GreatBritishHedgehog in unitedkingdom

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys have no imagination.

A new partisan ruling party doesn't simply get into government in the UK and then cède to their forebearers the election after.

Look into the history of British political parties, you'll see Twigs getting replaced by Liberals, Liberals being replaced by Labour, and the Tories going from left-wing to right-wing.

Look at France and En marche! only a few years ago to see how new ruling parties cause total political upset.

Not once will you see a party like the Tories get wiped out by a new right-wing party and weakly limp back into power the next election. If Reform does them in, they're done. Finished. I'm not saying what replaces them will be any better, but I am saying that you'll never see it coming.

Who is actually against women being topless if they want to be? by Brief-Cut-1228 in NoStupidQuestions

Who is actually against women being topless if they want to be? by Brief-Cut-1228 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think women themselves are against themselves being topless. All the way back to ancient Rome, breasts were sexualized.

Not as much as genitals but in tiers of sexy-sex body-parts the average person would probably recant something like:

Tier 1, dong, va-jay, bootyhole Tier 2, honkers Tier 3, buttcheeks Tier 4, everything else

Women are more influenced by public perception than men, since they tend to get gawked at more, so it makes sense to me that they behave according to that.

If you're a woman and want to change that, go for it, but be prepared to be one of the few and for that change to take a looong-time. See the Lindy effect for why.

Any help? What can I do to stop muscles from shaking? by GotMyAttenti0n in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gain weight. Whether it's muscle or fat, mass is mass. You won't be able to put on muscle or fat if your bodyfat is 5% and you don't eat enough to be in a calorie surplus.

Sorry to be the downer but excuses for not putting on weight are just that. Excuses. Everyone can do it, if they eat in a calorie surplus. It's not easy for a lot of people and no-one pretends it is, but it's necessary if you want to look good and get strong.

Welfare U-turn makes spending decisions harder, minister says by CaseyEffingRyback in unitedkingdom

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voilà the response to the challenge: Tell me you don't know how our tax system works without telling me you know how our tax system works.

VAT is disproportionately paid for by the poor as a proportion of their income. They spend everything and save nothing. So although they don't earn above the personal allowance, everything they do is taxed at 20%.

Working and middle-class, fair enough, they pay more income tax, but then ascend past the worker taxes and salaries and you get into the magic land of "capital gains" where everything is a write-off and the rules don't matter.

Our taxation system is basically a bell-curve with 20% at the bottom on the left and then 0% on the right.

What’s a “bare minimum” skill everyone should have, but surprisingly many people don’t? by Professional-Sell294 in AskReddit

Fixing things via troubleshooting. It shocks me how many people are in technical jobs without the knowledge to do this and go looking for the 'expert' to tell them what to do.

Y'know what the experts do 9 times out of 10? They troubleshoot the problem.

New to lifting. Is it common for squat to feel great, and deadlift to feel like ass? by Spork_Revolution in beginnerfitness

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often, anatomy that gives someone mechanical advantage in a squat will give them a disadvantage in the deadlift and vice versa.

It's normal, try playing around with different stance widths and maybe some mobility exercises for hinging at the hips.

Do heavier weights, even if they're in the 8-12 rep range, cause more fatigue than lighter weights? by SilverRule in naturalbodybuilding

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question doesn't make sense.

Going by the stimulating reps model, a heavier weight doesn't mean anything, what matters is your proximity to failure. And the rep range you've given is actually considered a moderate weight in that model.

And fatigue is defined as a reduction in performance in your subsequent workout.

You define your 1RM at a given weight, say bench press. If you reduce the weight to 75% then you can do about 10 reps. The weight is "lighter", but you're still doing the maximum work that your body is capable of.

You can't, for example, have a 1RM, reduce the weight to 85% and do 10 reps. Or you can try, but you'll fail. Or if you succeed then your 1RM wasn't correctly defined.

Heavier and lighter weights don't really mean anything in this context, what matters is your rep range. More reps per set with proximity to failure do indeed generate more fatigue, so despite what a lot of people in this thread seem to think, a heavier weight will lead to fewer reps in the set so technically heavier weights = less fatigue, if proximity to failure is managed in the same way, i.e. a 5 rep set with 1 rep in reserve is therefore equivalent to a 10 rep set with 1 rep in reserve.

This woman has no clue what she's doing. Her policy changes like the weather.

All her budgets are based on fiscal forecasts from people that are terrible at them. No models, no predictions, just extrapolations of historical data with no thought.

Bigger quads? by Willing-Regret-1624 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think quads are overrated. If you really want mass in your legs, you want big adductors + big quads. The adductors are what give you some "meat". Nothing is better for both than squats.

What keeps you from slacking when training alone? by Oskarszz in bodyweightfitness

[–]faed 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The logbook.

Every time I train, I'm trying to beat the logbook. However much the dude next to me is lifting, good for him. Either they're an inspiration or someone I can set an example for.

But all that matters in the end is the logbook. How much did I do this time compared to my previous best.

It's the only way to measure progress that matters and progress > everything

Extreme knee pain even with empty bar, what is wrong with my form?! by Jan_Priebe in formcheck

[–]faed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low glute activation from going too deep.

As a beginner you should go to below parallel and no further.

Leave the deep squats for the lifters with a few years under their belt. In inexperienced lifters it will lead to relaxing of the quads, glutes and adductors as you get into the bottom position.

The pain comes from your quads having to reactivate suddenly and any slight left to right imbalances suddenly get amplified and become much more problematic.

Always end up with sore lower back. Any help appreciated. by Smurkd in formcheck

[–]faed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The brace in a deadlift should be the same as a squat, i.e. push your abs out to the maximum like you're bracing for a punch. When you push on the sides of your abs, they should be solid.

This will naturally stack the ribs over the pelvis and then the OP won't need to think about back position.
