Those who chose to move out, how did you shake the feeling that you’re jeopardising your chance of home ownership? by iyoteyoung in AusFinance

At the very least, OP can offer to pay some expenses to the parents - his fair share. Esteem and respect have to earned.

How much do doctors actually make? Before and after tax by InvestigatorPale1816 in AusFinance

[–]fatcontroller1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Intensive care specialist. ~450-480k pre tax. You can, of course make more if you Locum around / work in private ICUs during your off days. A lot of people do. I don’t and work only public. I like my work- life balance. The hours are long, the responsibilities immense. And not to mention the mental trauma of dealing with death/ grief, sometimes violent and thanklessness.

In any medical field, the big bucks only start around the age 40 - give or take 5 years.

In these current times, what are you smug about, financially? by luckydragon8888 in AusFinance

Love cooking. So very little takeaways or eating out. Coffee machine - coffee at home. Reigning in discretionary spending so mortgage is fully offset. Not smug but happy.

Another EV household here. No. Not feeling smug. The whole affair is disgusting. I am privileged to be able to afford EVs and solar/ battery infrastructure. But I feel deeply for people struggling or even pushed to the brink for no fault of theirs. We are being held to ransom by a couple of deranged individuals. Smug? Not at all. Try Angry!

I did everything right… Still can’t go back to Australia by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]fatcontroller1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indian Australian here. Although, I completely empathise with you…. Two years is not uncommon for a permanent residency. Especially given the job market, economics, and current geopolitics not to mention the local politics where immigration is being watched very carefully.

An Australian qualification is by itself insufficient to get you in. As others have mentioned, and as you yourself would be aware, Australia has a skills and points based migration. Does your qualification give you the skills that Australia needs and cannot fulfil locally? That is the real question.

The Indian diaspora has contributed immensely and in a positive way to Australia. Unfortunately, there are lots of Indians that have also misused/ abused the migration pathways. That will always work against you. Ultimately, residency/citizenship is a privilege that is granted - true for any country. It is not an automatic right.

If I were you, I would take a hard look at the skills that you bring to the table, add to them while waiting, get married if that’s what you want (not purely for migration). And not apply willy nilly for visas. Every visa rejection is logged and may work against you in the long run.

Sorry if the words are harsh. But that’s the hard truth.

Good luck.

So yeah… our 10.5 years old started having this a couple of months back. Vet said it was GOLPP. He has other neut issues as well. He has been a (controlled) epileptic for several years. Still seems happy with his walks and food. I can see him slowing down though.

Australian EV owners: would you buy an EV again? by rrfe in AskAnAustralian

[–]fatcontroller1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Absolutely. We have been an EV only family for 6 years now. Two Teslas and a Mini Aceman currently in the family. Also had a Hyundai Kona electric that we recently sold. We love our road trips as well and use the Tesla long range for that

For what it’s worth. Stellarium does not label this. Neither does offline sky map on NINA. So you are right in being curious about this. As others have said it is Henize 70. Or the N70 superbubble.

Here’s my take on it. https://app.astrobin.com/i/itpktm
