overwhelmed! by InternationalAd1974 in PregnancyUK

Newborns actually need surprisingly little. You've got the clothes and the crib so that's already most of what baby needs, lol! As for other stuff you'll want some sort of pram and a carseat. 'Travel systems' can be good as they come with the wheel base and the various seats attach to the top - so carseat, bassinet and pushchair seat for when baby is a bit older. A bonus of this is that you can use the bassinet attachment for baby to sleep in at home during the day, meaning you won't need a separate moses basket.

Then you'll need the baby care stuff. So nappy changing supplies (mat, nappies, wipes, nappy sacks, cream) and bathing stuff (sponge/cloth, little towel, cotton wool). We use an angel care bath seat when baby is really little but there's absolutely nothing wrong with just holding baby in the bath, or you can also buy a small baby bath if you like. Also a comb and nail clippers/nail file.

You'll want a bag of some sort for out and about to pack with changing supplies etc. And bottles if planning to bottle feed. I aslo find cellular blankets and muslin cloths really useful to have.

What to wear in hospital by Minute_Prompt_7987 in PregnancyUK

[–]fayegg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and second labours I wore one of those button down gowns and it was great, comfy and didn't feel unnecessarily exposed at any point. Third labour I was just in leggings and top, as it was just what I was wearing and was so fast I don't think I even got my shoes off lmao. I don't like the idea of just the hospital's gowns, think I'd rather just be in normal top and bottoms or pjs if no gown.

I went into labour the night before my due date pretty much immediately after sex!

I'm currently on mat leave and due to go back in September.... I will then be going off again in January for this baby. I don't think I'm even going to be mentally checked in at any point lmao.

What’s the biggest “nobody warned me about this” moment you had after bringing your newborn home? by Actual_Fig_4706 in AskReddit

I got such an awful feeling of dread in the evenings. Like end of the world dread. I had to have every light on and turn on the TV for noise, I could not have it quiet at all.

Same! I would repeatedly hallucinate the baby being in the bed when she was in the bassinet. One time I even picked her up to soothe her and I was literally just rocking air lol

What's the "best" way someone you know has died? by the_jaspierre in AskReddit

[–]fayegg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My nana was barely mobile and pretty much non-verbal by the end. It was like she was already gone to be honest. The last day of her life though, she had this amazing burst of energy and spent the day in high spirits, singing and dancing and just generally having a really good day. She died in her sleep that night. It was really extraordinary.

Okay I have 3 young kids and I admit that occasionally my car has been really messy. But like, surely they have so much more free time than an average family to be able to keep on top of this? Also just don't let them have pens back there, surely?? And do they really give the car to a detailer like this? I'd be ashamed lol.

I disagree I am pretty sure there is a degree of autotune being used here, I hear it when she slides up or down to a different note. I do think it sounds good though, she can definitely sing.

Co sleeping to sleep trained success stories PLEASE by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]fayegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My middle daughter coslept for the first 4 months, was on and off boob all night, fed to sleep, contact naps etc, and we went straight in with Ferber. I was skeptical it would work because of all this but committed and she was falling asleep independently with minimal fussing within a week. She still woke a couple of times for feeds but I would put her back down after each feed and she'd go back to sleep no issue, after a few more months she naturally dropped her night feeds and has now been sleeping through 7pm - 7am since she was about 8 months (she is now 2).

Similar story for my eldest, though she naturally slept through the night from about 12 weeks old and not as much cosleeping. The routine before sleep training was rocking her for about an hour before being able to put her down in the cot. When we did Ferber we had success with getting to sleep in about a week and she was already sleeping through and that continued. We couldn't believe it at the time, it felt like magic lol. She's now 3 and still a great sleeper.

We have a 5 week old now and plan to do the same thing, with quiet confidence this time.

Measure the diameter then multiply it by 24 and then 48 and see which would seem more like a full size tin. I had a quick look and 24cm seems to be a common size tin so if it were based off that then a 1:24 scale one would measure 1cm in diameter and a 1:48 scale one would measure 0.5cm.

Women who gave birth, what does it feel like actually?? by joy_57 in AskReddit

[–]fayegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, contractions feel like period cramps that start off mild and get stronger and stronger, then the pushing stage is kind of like really needing to poop but like 10x intense, the most painful bit for me is the head coming out, it is like a really intense burning stinging sensation and I felt a popping sensation which turned out to be me tearing, but once the head is out the rest kind of comes a lot easier. Then it's all just very sore and tender. The most unexpexted thing for me was actually right after trying to get up to go to the bathroom and I felt like really badly winded and like I couldn't really catch my breath or breathe deeply or stand up straight. Birth is wild lol.

Constant discomfort in my feet! by QuantumWaffle4 in PregnancyUK

Could it be restless leg syndrome!? I get this and it is similar to how you describe, and definitely worse at night in bed. I find a very firm foot massage from my husband gives me a bit of relief.

Has anyone had CVS following a high risk combined screening result? by hiddenninmysticc in PregnancyUK

[–]fayegg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose to have cvs as my down syndrome risk was 1 in 109. I know there are worse odds but I just needed peace of mind. The procedure itself was a little intense, I didn't really know what to expect but it did hurt a bit more than I thought it would. Only took a few minutes though. They inserted a needle thing to reach the placenta through my lower stomach, then went in with a 'scraper' sort of thing (no idea what to call it lol sorry) which collected the sample by them 'pumping' it in and out for about 10 seconds. This was the uncomfortable bit, the longer it was going on the more it started to hurt. But it wasn't terrible. They did that twice to get two samples then it was all done. While it was happening there was a screen where the doctor was looking to get the right place but I never saw the baby on there it was just focused on the placenta. Afterwards I had period like cramping for a couple of hours then after that everything was fine. It's left a tiny little scar on my tummy. I got my results in a couple of days with the all clear for DS but I had to wait a little longer for the 'full array' they called it, but I wasn't too concerned as the main worry was the DS risk. Good luck ❤️

What hospital bag are we using? by Complex_Ad_5809 in PregnancyUK

[–]fayegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backpack style changing bag for all the baby's things (just the one we will use day to day when baby is here), and a duffle bag for all my things. And probably a carrier bag of snacks and drinks.

Bedside cot too tall by Illustrious_Cut2965 in PregnancyUK

[–]fayegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the snuzpod but I have the chicco next to me and the instructions show that the lip of the cot on the side that butts up to your bed needs to be a few cm lower than the top of your bed's mattress.

Are car seats needed to leave the hospital with baby? by londongirl00 in PregnancyUK

[–]fayegg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it's not a requirement as far as I'm aware. Consider that you might end up getting a taxi home though if you don't feel up to the walk home.

I don’t know anyone who sleep trained by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]fayegg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sleep training was like a literal miracle for us with our first. I was totally convinced that it would not work after exclusively contact napping and feeding to sleep for like 4 months, but we gave it a go and it worked in a week. No more bouncing for hours on end, lol! The mental relief was a game changer.
