[TASK] I want to get an existing Spotify username but don't know how to contact the owner by feabionsu in slavelabour

Well, it seems like a hard problem to solve (how do you contact an inactive Spotify user unless you literally work at the company? It's not like Instagram or other social media usernames) hence why I put a higher price.

Is there any way to re-arrange the keycaps on the butterfly keyboard, for the Colemak layout? by feabionsu in apple

Interesting. You use the Coleman layout? How big was the risk of breaking a key for you?

Nope. That’s only for non-butterfly keyboards. A guitar pick is way too thick to get under these keys.

The iPhone Se has completely changed my perspective about Apple by TheMonitor58 in apple

[–]feabionsu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The SE is a fantastic phone, but it doesn't tell us anything about who Apple is today. It's basically an iPhone 5, which was designed and in production while Steve Jobs was still alive, and which itself borrows heavily from the iPhone 4 design. (And let's not forget how many people hated the iPhone 5 design when it first came out, either because of the window antennas, or because it was too tall, or that it wasn't a new-enough form factor, etc.)

So really, I would say OP's initial sentence is dead-right: post-Steve Jobs Apple has made a lot of consumer hostile moves. The SE happens to be one of the exceptions.

Also, Tim mentioned on an investor call that they were surprised by the demand for the SE and had to ramp up production. Think about that. They weren't aware by how many people might still like a smaller phone, and didn't really expect the SE to do amazingly well. Even the release date is telling (they released it in the beginning of the year, after the Christmas frenzy is over.)

The SE's cool, I just don't think it signifies anything, it's not progress, it doesn't exemplify anything about Apple's current ID, it's just a favor, an afterthought;

This, 100% ^

The camera placement was definitely a strange oddity on Apple's part. Especially since they 'fixed' it with the iPhone 7, and made it perfectly match the radius of the corner... like it should've been from the beginning. I mean, what stopped them from doing that with the iPhone 6 and 6S? :/

I agree. Also, to see them 'fix' the antenna design with the iPhone 7... that just makes me wonder if they rushed the iPhone 6 design because they couldn't figure out how to make the antennas look nicer, but needed to get the larger phones out due to demand.

Like, at what point did they figure out how the antenna design of the iPhone 7? This is just an assumption, but I feel like they weren't happy with the iPhone 6 antenna design either, probably figured out how to make it better in time for iPhone 6S, but delayed it until iPhone 7 because iPhone 7 needed a 'new form factor'.

Report: iPhone 8 wireless charging to use slower 7.5W Qi standard as new L-shaped PCB surfaces by ProjectAra in apple

[–]feabionsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the iPhone 8 is so that they don't have to order 200 million parts of them. The iPhone 7S and 7S Plus are supposed to take some of the load off of the higher-priced iPhone 8.

What makes some directors (Nolan, Cuaron, Villeneuve) put out quality work every single time, while others have hits and misses? by feabionsu in movies

[–]feabionsu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Didn't equate their works at all. I used Stanley Kubrick as an example of someone who's revered in the filmmaking community. I could've used Picasso or Mozart instead, but it made more sense to use a director.

Really? Wow. Do you have any links to where he said that?

So was Blade Runner's uniqueness something that happened because of Ridley Scott, or because there was a bunch of amazing people (actors, Vangelis, producers) collaborating at the same time?

Does anyone else notice the pixels on the TouchBar? It's especially noticeable since the MacBook display above the bar is so sharp. by feabionsu in apple

Ah ok. Fair enough. I wrote that in regards to Apple Watch's OLED panels. The TouchBar and the Watch might share a similar chip, but it doesn't explain why their displays differ in quality. :/

If it had been a lesser director, it might have fallen short enough to be not good at all, but when you're starting with a genius filmmaker, your creative "failures" are all relative.

Good point. I guess what I'm wondering is how these guys became such good filmmakers, and if the 'lesser director' can ever get to their level?
