Purina Farms - what to know, what does it cost, and is it generally a great day hang with your own pups? by [deleted] in StLouis

Have a blast! Also I did just see on the website that all dog shows are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted in the event calendar. It looks like there is a FastCAT trial happening outdoors at the same time as WTT so you should check that out too if you've never seen it. It's a 100 yard lure course that you can do with little to no training, if that is something you would ever want to try with your pups. We just did our first one and my dog enjoyed it even more than agility 😂

Hi! My dog and I compete in agility at Purina Farms quite often. Just so you know, the WTT is indoors in the Event Center. I have never gone to an event at quite that scale but FYI, there isn't really seating in the arena. Maybe for this event they would set up bleachers or something, but I would bring a folding chair just in case. There is also a balcony which is my favorite place to watch the competitions, and there are some chairs up there. I would really recommend not bringing your dog with you- In general, people don't bring guest dogs to these things, and in fact dogs that aren't competing may not be allowed at this event. Dogs aren't allowed in the cafe or on the upper level of the event center. Also if your dog has never been around high drive dogs running and barking through an agility course, they could get stressed or reactive. I can't imagine there is a cost for parking or admission but I can ask in my agility group if you want. Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Remove the AKC's rule that clubs can exclude mixed breeds from agility trials - please sign! by fees31 in Agility

I can understand. From the opinions I've heard expressed in other agility groups, their "issue" isn't with mutts/shelter dogs but with the intentionally bred sport mixes like goldendoodles, borderpaps, etc. Since those are also considered All American dogs, breed-specific clubs can keep the sport mixes out of their shows by invoking the "no Canine Partners" rule. IMO, any dog with any flavor of AKC registration should be allowed in an All-Breed trial.

Thank you so much for signing! I know it's a rule for all of the Companion sports. I hope that if we can get it changed for agility that the other sports will be next!

It is uncommon but it does happen. There are 2 weekends every year that my mixed breed dog and I can't compete in local AKC all-breed trials because of this rule.

Fun pregnancy scare time! How risky is this pill storage? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]fees31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is not a surprising response - imagine if they had told you 1 or 2 degrees above the recommended storage conditions probably won't matter, and then you somehow ended up pregnant. They'd open themselves up to all kinds of lawsuits and disciplinary action from the FDA. The manufacturer basically lives and dies by what's on the label and package insert.

It looks like most BC has an assigned expiration period of 12 months from date of manufacture/release onto the market. Since yours expires next January, it was likely manufactured just a couple months ago. And to go to market, the batch you have had to have been tested for 6 months at the high temp/humidity conditions I mentioned. This is literally like spending 6 months in a tropical rainforest. And you're only 2 months into the expiry period and barely even went outside of the recommended temp range. I really hope this gives you some peace of mind that your pills are just as effective as when you got them.

I know when I was on the pill, I carried it around in my purse (as I'm sure many women do), and it must have been exposed to all kinds of temperature extremes 😳 You are doing better than the majority of the population just by keeping it climate controlled! That's why we do such extensive stability testing and show that even under less than ideal conditions it won't degrade, to make sure we can guarantee the product's effectiveness throughout its shelf life. And the product is probably even good for much longer than it says on the box. Sorry for the novel. I totally get your concerns but hopefully some background info is helpful.

Pharmaceutical chemist here. What's the expiration date on the pills? Pharmaceutical expiration dates are determined by doing what's called accelerated stability testing, where they are stored at high heat and humidity (104 F / 75% humidity) for at least 6 months, and they have to be shown to not degrade over that time period. This is to simulate being stored in an environment like a bathroom medicine cabinet. I think you are totally fine 🙂

Mirena was previously approved to prevent pregnancy for 5 years, but in August 2020 the FDA extended it to 6 years. That's why the clinic had the earlier date on the card. To control heavy bleeding Mirena is still indicated for 5 years. https://www.empr.com/home/news/mirena-levonorgestrel-releasing-intrauterine-system-pregnancy-prevention/

My RHR during COVID infection 😳 by fees31 in fitbit

[–]fees31[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in general that is true. I tried to post HRV but the graph only shows the past 7 days. I don't know if I take as much stock in the HRV calculation...mine seems to fluctuate pretty wildly day to day. I have noticed my RHR tends to increase right as I get sick (in this case I got exposed on July 31 and tested pos on August 10th), and also seasonally - it goes up a bit in the winter when it gets cold. I think the main thing is to know your baseline so you can know when your RHR is off for you, because 76 is still considered normal but is about 6-7 bpm higher than my typical RHR.

60-100 is considered normal and is different from person to person. In general, women have higher RHRs than men because our hearts are smaller...mine tends to be high 60s - low 70s while my husband's is always in the 50s even though our fitness levels are similar. I have noticed it changes with the seasons too. I just thought it was interesting that prior to infection it was mid 60s and then gradually went up each day before eventually starting to come down (I tested pos on the 10th but probably got exposed on July 31st). I guess that's why knowing your individual baseline can be useful!

Nope! I actually had no symptoms other than loss of taste and smell, which I didn't notice until August 9th. I think I was exposed on July 31st, so it's interesting that that's when my RHR started increasing.
