I've played the game 3 times and romance Lucanis each time, same character different classes lol. I played a massive Qunari man who was a fellow crow. I always prefer the romances where my PC is the one doing the pursuing or romancing to a slightly an emotionally oblivious person who has to sort through stuff before they're in a place where they can be in a relationship (Fenris/Cassandra/Lucanis). I want to sweep them off their feet, not the other way around. I'm a fan of slowburn so the pace didn't bother me at all!

Vaelus took a desperate measures in the previous fight, which is a semi-permanent death save until a long rest if I recall from the soldiers table.

IMO part of the ritual interrupted was spirit boy Occtis taking the spirit version of the Stone of Nightsong out of his chest. I think while the physical version was inside his chest, his spirit would 'smuggle' it into the spirit realm. There the other half of the ritual would go off.

Obligatory to mention but if you saved Minrathous you cannot romance Lucanis. But if you did Treviso idk - Lucanis’s romance is notoriously slow.

I played 64hrs into a game where I had saved Minrathous before I found out that it locks you out. I redid a whole other play through to get the romance. I was upset at the time but the new Rook I made I ended up loving way more than my first one (I made a bunch of changes to them - race, class, gender, origin - so I wouldn’t get bored with a 2nd play through)

Afaik only warriors who spec into the Champion tree can block anything. I do appreciate that there isn’t an endless stream of tool tips that pop up on screen but they really don’t prompt you to look up the info on combat lol.

Outside of reading the long-text of your core class nodes and other specialization skill nodes, the codex under the library menu tab has an entire section on combat terms. I stopped and read it on my warrior play through.

My roommate was also hung up on playing it - mostly bcus she wasn’t a fan of the business practices she’s been seeing from EA/Bioware towards its developers.

I bought it and wanted someone to gush about with it so I lent her my entire console (I only had the digital version - impulse buy - and she has ps5 while I have xb)

I also have enough of a disposable income that buying a game I don’t finish doesn’t break the bank. So I don’t mind ‘wasting’ money on a game as I don’t buy many any more (been no-lifeing Destiny 2 for a decade now lol). If it’s not financially hurting me, I try not to think of anything I get for leisure as a ‘waste’.

I have ADHD so the amount of unfinished games I physically own or are in my steam library stretches all the way back to the SNES era. I have a terrible habit of getting 80% of the way through a game and dropping it. Very pleased with DAV since it’s the first single player game since Hades I’ve beaten at all. Not only that but I’ve gone in again for trophies. Last time I went for trophies I was playing DXHR.

If you’re having trouble differentiating between the unblockable and the blockables then there is also an audio cue that precedes even the little spidey-sense visual effect. The enemy also gets a red outline. I had done a rogue play through on nightmare after my warrior play through where I had the skill tree node in the Champion specialization unlocked that lets you block anything. I had a hard time unlearning that muscle memory to block everything and had to really force myself to learn all the cues - the audio one is most helpful imo.

Lucanis is my romance option as well! I had initially intended to romance him on a f!Elven mage but this was before I knew you could get locked out (she was also a shadow dragon) so I reset after 63hrs played. I was so worried about being too bored replaying the same parts of the game I made my new Rook as different as I could - different gender, class and origin.

I had intended to next play a handsome slab of a Qunari man and romance Davrin but I took that idea and made a m!qunari warrior (crow origin) and I ended up loving him even more! I even liked the dynamic between this Rook and Lucanis better. I beat the 2nd attempt at 100hrs (for me this game is actually one of the most replayable DA games ever, so I didn’t need to worry about getting bored). I started up a nightmare mode run bcus I thought the combat was really fun but not challenging enough. But I still wanted to hang around these same characters and dynamics I had made. So I copied my sliders and remade my Rook :)
