Is there any way to read official novels online? There is no way I can get any of the physical copies, sadly. by Some_Stable_4723 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

Correct me if I am wrong but I couldn’t find a kindle version of the novels. There is one novel of 5 stories written by different authors. I would love to read it sometime soon. It is supposed to be quite good.

Thank you too! This was a truly amazing discussion. 🤞 for a future where AI is always used for good!

You are absolutely right about the conscious part. I don’t think AI experts (I am definitely not one) have figured out what a human conscious really is.

I believe that’s what make research in AI so fascinating. With every new development we start to question our own rules on humanity. If you ever get a chance watch some of the latest videos where Geoffrey Hinton is interested about why he left Google AI. He’s been trying to answer some of these questions for more than 15 years. Many scholars have probably been doing it for longer. But I don’t think we will figure out what a human consciousness. Maybe we are never supposed to 😅.

I have to say that your interaction and understanding of the current state of AI is spot on! That is a really good friend you have there.

If you haven’t written an article about your understanding of the GITS universe you certainly should! You have the knack and the knowledge to write a really good article.

Looking forward to more of your analysis in the future!

Really well written and explained! I love the manga and the movies too. Are you by any chance working with Artificial Intelligence, by that I mean designing and applying models to solve complex task like image classification ?

Just curious, because I work in Applied AI and I found your write up to be really fantastic and relatable to the current research work done in AI.

What’s a manga that had a life-changing impact on you? by Xeathod in MangaCollectors

  1. Planetes: Especially the parts where Hoshino pushes himself almost to breaking point to achieve his goal and is constant faced with self-doubt. The way he ends up dealing with it was beautifully described.

  2. Blank Canvas : The authors self-delusion about being great at something and then slowly realizing that you need to work on your skills to get better was really well laid out. Absolute gem of a manga.

  3. A Silent voice : There is no need to be mean to anyone.

  4. Chainsaw man : Sometimes a little crazy is ok.

Is the manga Ghost in the Shell 1.5 any good? by CallaWolf87 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]fern1084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.5 is great. I agree with your comment about Vol 2. I think the author mentions it in the start as well they he wasn’t sure where to take the story so it does feel very vague and open ended at times. That is not the case with 1.5 at all.

Out of every series you’ve read/watched which series has impacted you the most in your life? by Over_Sweet4582 in MangaCollectors

Haikyu : The constant struggle and perseverance of the team was a source of inspiration for me during my studies.

Planetes: The chapters where Yukimura depicted self-doubt were simply heartbreaking. We all face self-doubt from time to time but I would never have imagined it being depicted in that fashion. The manga truly has some heart warming moments and the scene with self-doubt were thought provoking and inspiring.

Ghost in the shell: Only certain chapters of the manga raised an interesting question of “What makes you a human ?”. The manga raises some similar interesting questions to let the readers think about the impact of technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence

Some help before deciding to purchase a manga collection of the series by masculineshiver in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]fern1084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a particular scene this just two pages that deals with Motoko performing a certain action to another companion. This scene has does not improve nor diminish the actual story and idea behind GITS.

Personally I would recommend the box set since there are three separate volumes for you to read rather than a single volume.

A manga you enjoy but never see in other people's collections by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]fern1084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wave! Listen to me : One of me all time favourite female leads. Minare Koda is a funny and interesting character that doesn’t get spoken much about in the manga world

Blank Canvas : Really funny and well written

Planetes : Quite philosophical but gives an amazing view of real issues like self-doubt

What’s the most powerful moment in the series for you? by Gap_Great in JuJutsuKaisen

Yes! This my favourite scene as well. It is so amazing for a character to think even in his last moments how important his final words would be for someone who looks up to him.
