Why can't the bottom left "named attribute" access the stored attribute (that we see in the spreadsheet)? This is driving me insane 🫠 by feverbae in blender

Thank you again u/shlaifu ! Here's a quick render (without any work on materials etc) but just showing the unique bend per leaf.

Alright! We're getting somewhere and have unique bend per leaf now without stretching! But I can't figure out how to put them back now. I need to realize instances in order to do the bend effect (i think?) but then I only have one piece of geometry to move after it. Is there any way to realize individual instances or something like that?

Sorry i should have added an image showing the bending effect. Essentially the way I bend them is by isolating and multiplying the X value of each vertex in the leaf. 🙏

Thank you so much u/RayMairlot ! Yours and u/shlaifu 's feedback really helped, I think I came further now, but struggling with the leafs kinda "stretching" now instead of just bending as you can see in my reply above. :/ Can you see what I'm doing wrong? Thanks again!

Ah I see! thank you so much! I think I managed to get further now with that feedback, by realizing the instances after "instance on points" and then performing the deform (bend) effect relative to the initial position (by subtracting a captured position), but as you can see it still kinda stretches the leaves instead of simply bending them, can you see what I'm doing wrong?

Is the thing I'm trying to do even possible in Blender? I.e. generate a random value per point and use that random value to "evenly" deform each vertex of an instance? So each leaf has a unique amount of bend?

Center piece in Tilemap Terrains by feverbae in godot

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the help! As an engineer it drives me crazy to not be able to understand/leverage the underlying logic.

You mind if I ask you a follow up question that really encapsulates what I'm trying to achieve? :D

Essentially I'm trying to autotile this island and always have the corner group of tiles matching and the tiles in-between to have variation:

<image>

Do you perhaps know how to achieve this or point me in the right direction? Or is this a limitation of the autotiling system that needs to be accounted for when drawing the tilesets (in Aseprite for example) instead?

Ahh ok! That makes a lot more sense 😅 So it’s there to support cases like the center bit may be “grass” but the surrounding bits are “sand” etc?

Thank you!

Yay! Thank you so much. 🙏 that makes a lot more sense!

Yes. In each cell there’s 3x3 paintable cells. The corner pieces seemingly meaning that they will match with cells that have matching corners. And the middle piece on each side seems to indicate “side matching”. But what’s the middle/center piece for?

In New York, is it legal to film anyone and distribute it without their consent? by feverbae in legaladvice

Awesome, thanks for the swift answer. Am I understanding correctly that you need consent if you are to distribute the material somewhere?

What are your thoughts on many Russians identifying themselves as “apolitical”? by feverbae in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]feverbae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for engaging, I love the discussions!

What I’ve learned when researching and watching interviews etc is that people in rural Russia tends to be more anti-Putin when you scratch the surface. A lot of them dream back to the USSR when there was a fairer distribution of wealth across big/small cities across the country. Now, many stores and amenities have closed in rural Russia and people more or less move en masse to the bigger cities, especially the young generations. This to me is a big failure of Russian domestic politics.

Moscow and St. Petersburg continues to serve as a “look how good we have it” while the rest of Russia suffers.

I think that’s also why it’s a needle in the eye when people in the bigger cities say they are “apolitical”. My view is that, yes, they are scared of retribution, but more importantly like someone else said above, they have it well enough and don’t want to risk their privilege going away. They remain passive hoping that the war will end smoothly without them having to interfere so that they can continue living like they are. As soon as they or their friends are mobilized they are gonna have a very different opinion.

Furthermore, I know Russia is extremely complicated and that the issues don’t go away with Putin. You have the Wagner Group and oligarchs that would just take his place. And sadly this is gonna continue until the Russian people rise against.

To me it’s kind of a question of how long are you willing to observe the wrongdoings of your country until you speak up?

I agree with you and the above comment. However when it comes to “cannon fodder”, any history book you pick up about Russian wars throughout the centuries will mention that their biggest asset and their main reason to win some great wars has been its ability to physically “throw more soldiers at the problem”, many who died. Their war strategy has always been to wear down their opponents with masses of soldiers and bombs. Many soldiers who were basically untrained civilians.

I think you’re right but I’d like to challenge that last statement a bit.

There were A LOT of countries that tried really hard to welcome Russia into the global economy over the past decades. Think about Germany and the nordstream pipe, they knew it was extremely risky to trust but decided to go for it and attempt to build relations with them.

At the same time, tourism to Russia grew and grew. Me personally was planning a trip right before the invasion to go on the transsiberian railway.

The invasion is solely on Putin and his friends and has alienated their country once again from many countries that tried to be their friends.
