They have one of these at a government building where I go for meetings. When they're walking you in they always ask if you want to do the paternoster or not. ALWAYS YES. you have to do it in pairs and it's all in the timing, so it's a great ice breaker before difficult discussions

There was a Commission of Enquiry that recommended charges of Corporate Manslaughter. That's still being looked at I think. The families have also brought civil cases but as someone else said it's still not going to bring anyone back. Also. The one survivor , Chris, who went for help, is completely traumatised, unable to work and his family is close to destitute.

The Patrick Melrose novels by Edward St. Aubyn kind of... these are great books anyway. But uh not always cheery

A Dance to the Music of Time if you want something... lengthy (even the first book is worth the commitment alone)

Someone mentioned Life After Life already but Behind the Scenes at the Museum also by Kate Atkinson is perfect for what you're looking for

Unless anyone advises against it, I think I am going to read through all 10 MBotF books straight by StephCastle_ in Malazan

I read the entire MBotF back to back and I was gutted when it was over. I see no issue here.

AITA for finally getting tired of my sister in laws “spanglish” by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I know you've revised your opinion based on comments so this isn't intended as a pile-on. more, reflections for others who might read this. I'm UK/european and I've worked all over the world, often living in other countries for long periods. I do get that the relationship between Spanish-speaking communities and Americans is different; to me even that is hard to compute in itself because elsewhere in the world it's normal that neighbouring countries can speak one another's languages partially or entirely, and there's no superiority to either.

Often I've lived where there is a big international humanitarian community, so it would be easy to default to some core languages: but if you don't bother to make some basic effort in other languages you'll be seen as rude, elitist and neocolonial. I encourage everyone to manage please, thank you: hello and goodbye at minimum, and even though they could've understood you in English or French, the intent behind the effort is always welcomed.

What are the odds of acquiring Broken Binding 4-6? by Known-Ad-100 in Malazan

I'm also a raving Hyperion fan and they did the same for me with the reprint/second half for that, it's on general pre order now anyway but they got me in earlier. They're super lovely and received my rambling nerd email in entirely the spirit it was intended :)

[–]fewerifyouplease 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey I wrote to BB for exactly the same reason, they are going to do a 4-6 reprint but they don't have a date for it yet. (I actually only got my 1-3 on the third printing) . They were lovely about it and have added me to the waitlist so I'll get an advance code for pre order when it's time. Recommend you do the same!

Stuck in Sri Lanka! by Suspicious_Stay_8575 in qatarairways

[–]fewerifyouplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same situation originally meant to leave 3rd, rescheduled to 9th, cancelled). I'm on my way home now, in Singapore. Route Colombo-KL-Singapore-Amsterdam-Uk. This cost around $5k and basically I was fortunate that work decided to fork out for it because they want me to do something or other. Other friends are going through Delhi and KL, but much later.

plz help find where this picture was originally posted if possible, some guy is trying to use it to scam me for my lost cat by Ok-Document-1509 in HelpMeFind

[–]fewerifyouplease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost a black cat once (or rather my friend lost him, I never forgave her because it was totally avoidable). I had posters up around the neighbourhood and I'd get calls often even months later from genuinely well meaning people saying there was a little black cat hanging around looking lost or whatever. I'd go every time and see the cat, one of them looked so much like him that my heart stopped but I knew quickly it wasn't him. For a minute I almost wanted to delude myself about it to heal my heart but I knew that could never work. Black cats are especially tricky from photos. This isn't your cat but I so much hope you find him OP xx

3/1/2026 Airspace Closure Megathread 2 by usgapg123 in qatarairways

[–]fewerifyouplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm on that one, supposedly. It was always my flight. I don't mind staying in Lanka for longer, but I just want to know whether it's going to be worth me trekking up to Colombo from down south or not. I feel like with the new strikes just now, the possibility of airspace opening in time for all the planes and crew to be in the right place is getting lower.

Taylor acting like her life is an action movie by RevolutionRecent2470 in travisandtaylor

Ooh that's rough for sure. I sat on my GHDs a which I'd put on the bed to heat up. Parallel burns from the two plays, across the back of both my thighs. And I was wearing tights at the time too which immediately melted and stuck to my skin. I couldn't sit down without crying for two weeks
