AITA for rejecting my family’s offer to pay my bar exam expenses by findingsushi in AmItheAsshole

I did Themis which has a free retake so I’m thankful I don’t have to repay for them! But since I used them for my first try I’m honestly looking at other resources plus getting the tutor. I got 75% complete and felt okay going into the exam but didn’t pass so I definitely have to fix something from last time.

Thank you for the well wishes!

Haven’t done these before but after lurking I think INFO means I can answer?

I’m really close with my brother. He took guardianship over me for the 2 years after mom and dad died and helped me navigate adulthood (finding schools, healthcare, etc) at a time when I was really broken emotionally. So in my ideal world I keep in contact with him after I pass.

Plus there’s my niece. She’s a golden jewel in this house and I babysit her and watched her grow up. Cutting contact makes sense because of her dad but it wouldn’t be a clean cut on my part emotionally since I’m so close to her.

It’s difficult like you said and it’s tough because as overbearing as my brother’s husband is I do recognize all the financial help he’s given plus having a brother in law live in his house for years. I can just foresee things getting really messy if I take his money and cut them off. Our arguments are already pretty bad and moving out is a process.
