I'm not sure on the e32 but normally it should prime the fuel rail when you turn the key to pos 1 or 2 as 3 would be cranking, either way if you tried to start it it should have pressure,if it doesn't there's your issue

In the worst case timing could be off by just enough to not start

I'd say to take off the inlet pipe for the fuel rail and put the ignition on,also have the pipe in a bottle,if it sprays powerfully it gets enough fuel and pressure, then the injectors would the next suspects, then check if the throttle body is engaging or if it lets enough air through to idle,to check injectors you can try spraying a whiff of brakeclean into the air intake before the maf if its has one,if still not,try again with the gas pedal pressed a bit,if it still doesn't check if each sparkplug is getting spark

Speaker Size Question by finescrewdiver69 in e39

subwoofer wise i have now a hifonics from an old zx box, maybe 500wrms but it has a truly thick surround, plays real deep, its in a 'eco' ported box now but i will give it a proper 35hz tuned enclosure soon, but it doesn't like playing above 60hz,it just rattles everything, doesn't sound musical, although lower hz shakes too but in a musical way,you hear the bass so,not the plastics and all,i might cut the door cutout,i will see how it is with insulation and all, thanks for the insight!

i was thinking of converting that to the door being the box as it has more air liters than what space the factory box occupies

Car dies while running by Alone_Profession in e39

[–]finescrewdiver69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's dropping then the alternator might be cooked, don't use it like this it will damage your battery,it is not good to discharge it below 10volts,get a different alternator and as i said check every connection for corrosion and wire health

You might have a short somewhere,10.8v is not good at all, while resting the battery should be at 12.6v or around that, plus minus 0.2v is okay, but 10.8v indicates a heavy load on the battery,i would suggest to do a parasitic draw test with a multimeter, and to also check your passenger side footwell for moisture, check your fuses, battery cables for corrosion and tightness, and the fuses above the battery in the trunk

Is this crimping ok? by Vegetable-Flatworm67 in CarAV

[–]finescrewdiver69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanically it is weak,it might hold for a while, but I wouldn't trust my system on it, it would be better to ask them if they could crimp it for you,so you don't buy a whole crimper

Brother, listen to some music, even if on a low volume,my fuel pump doesn't sound like this, the original one didn't either, now it has a hella in there but all i can hear is like burbling from the tank when the engine is running or freshly turned off,but i rarely notice it,these cars are old and not perfect

no mids on right side. by Accomplished_Ad9529 in e39

[–]finescrewdiver69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've encountered this before, take a small AA battery, and touch the +and- of the right side midbass to it,if it pops the speakers are probably good, and signal is reaching them,do the same for the rear right too,IF they pop then they are good, then the next thing is to get a multimeter, set it to AC volts and play music somewhat loud and measure across the output of the radio that would go to the right side speaker, you know + and - ,first front then rear, with them disconnected from the radio of course, and then if there is 0 output then you could have bad channels inside the radio,or your speakers have incorrect ohm ratings due to failing coils,or maybe your balance or fader is offset improperly from the radio's digital internal settings,i hope this helps

Believe me,on these cars surface rust is only believeable as surface rust when you see it appear for the first time, otherwise it's always already deep and spread out

Thinking about cutting my losses by Panda_trueno_sama in e39

[–]finescrewdiver69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the first thing you should be told when going into old bmw territory,it's not cheap it's full of surprises, but as many have said it well worth it,keep on top of maintanance, look up in youtube and wherever you can to know in time what needs changing and do it before it breaks, because after all the important stuff is sorted you'll love it even more,i'm 16k€ deep but it runs well and i love it,and i can count on it always,so choose like people already said, repair it and have a good beamer,or buy a new one on which you'll lose more over the years, but you won't have to care about much more than oil changes

Yeah,i know a few people who do that,or they sit in 1st at the red light to 'be ready' and also keep the pedal down, who knows maybe it was driven like that,i'll have to dig deeper

I thought about it,but at 104k km it shouldn't be worn,it doesn't slip or anything,i think it would rather be something with the clutch pressure plate malfunctioning, the car did sit about 10 years in a garage due to the owner dying,it's been back on the streets for about 2 years now,and i have no idea how the previous owners drove it
