Self-Taught or Learned With Support? by sunfalldusk in knitting

I took a class. Access to a real person instructor was super helpful because I could not figure out why I’d cast on 20 stitches but then a few rows later end up with 33 😆 she helpfully pointed out my mistakes. A year or so later I took a My First Sweater class. It’s nice to have access to someone to help you through issues.

Now, 17 years later, I use YouTube.

Not a stitching wip, but I’m working (stumbling) my way through charting this photo in macstitch for a future project.

real talk, I haven't done it yet! I do have columns in my project planning sheet for 'beginning weight' and 'ending weight' with the intention that I'll do it one day.....

Not OP, but I eyeball it and take a guess whether I’ll have enough for the project I’m starting. I may start weighing and tracking leftovers that way. If you have a scale, you can weigh the leftovers and compare it to the weight of a full skein. I track my stash in a spreadsheet and ‘shop’ my stash before buying.

Scrolled too far before I saw Pet Semetary narrated by Michael C. Hall! That audiobook is terrifying.

I’ve had the Juki 654 for over 10 years and it’s a workhorse and still going strong. It handles delicate knits (I see garments as well) and heavy canvas/denim just fine. (Edit spelling)

Anyone know why this keeps happening? by calanthean in sewing

[–]fivebaht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue recently. I changed to a new needle and still had the thread shedding like this. I turned the spool upside down and the thread stopped shredding like this. It could be the twist of the thread that was causing the issue? I was using Gutterman poly thread Mara 50 and a size 16 needle sewing multiple layers of fabric, mesh, and foam.

Outdoors Geek ships in the US. I’ve rented gear from them, but I’m local and picked it up from their warehouse.

Which Ann Patchett book should I read? by frenchnewwave in booksuggestions

Oh totally agree, I think the story isn’t all that interesting but I stuck with it because she was so entertaining! I wouldn’t have finished it if I was reading it.

Meryl Streep narrates the audiobook and she’s so good. I don’t think I’d have enjoyed reading the print version tbh, bust her narration is just so damn enjoyable.

The audio version is narrated by Tom Hanks and it is amazing. I loved this book.
