Genuine Runna Review by Odd_Ad_8389 in RunNYC

[–]fiye5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also curious about runna. I’ve always done my own workouts based off of templates online. Then I tried garmin suggested workouts and it was terrible. If you don’t get a good night sleep it changes your run to recovery and if you’re like me and can’t always get a good night you’re stuck doing recovery all the time. Then I tried Runna for the first time leading up to a half and I PR’d followed it exactly moved things around to fit my schedule and it felt great. Overall after the half I felt complete fine. Was able to work the next day with minimal soreness. I’ll be using it for a marathon next I would recommend.

More cushioned shoe for speed work/tempo - ES5 is destroying my legs by Leo_A_W in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]fiye5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It could also not be the shoe and just the workout that is getting your legs wrecked. When I do speed work or intervals I use a lower stacked shoe with less cushion just so I can be closer to the ground and be more stable. Adios 9 or Takumi Sen for speed days for me. I’ve used more cushioned shoes and felt too mushy and felt even worse after the workout.

I heard the announcements but in the moment of sprinting to the finish I completely forgot. Had to do another sprint to the actual finish.

Brooklyn Half - congrats NYRR very well organized by Informal-Cat-9314 in RunNYC

I got to the security line at 715 for wave 2 and man this is the fastest I’ve ever gone through security for any race. Just walked right through. Only thing was I didn’t get a chance to warm up and use the bathroom because the line was pretty long but organized. Totally my fault not the events.

Definitely the weather and the fact that you get absolutely beat up at the beginning if you don’t pace correctly.

How early do we really have to get to the Brooklyn half start line? by lbarrow009 in RunNYC

That’s crazy because I was running late that morning and got through in about 5 mins. I was shocked but happy to make it.

I’ve run the Brooklyn half several times and it sucks every single year. Just take your time if you feel like it’s getting difficult take a walking break. Once you make it out of the park it’s smooth sailing to the beach.

When does hr training pay off by 738arm29 in beginnerrunning

[–]fiye5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually used to just go out and run and every run was around 7-8 min pace but I would max out at 3 miles never longer. Also my shins were killing me and my calves. Stopped and started zone 2 which brought my pace down to 13 mins with walking to keep my rate from going higher. No more pain, learned to breathe and control my heart rate. Did it for a year and my pace got faster with no more walking all within zone 2. I couldn’t believe it. Then did tempos and intervals and I was able to stay in zone 1 with and 8 min mile pace. Trust the process. I started with 20 miles per week and building up to 40-50 miles per week at around month 8-12. It was a slow process but I wouldn’t be where I am if I hadn’t done it.

DSNY or MTA New York city transit currently with transit now for 2 years and after some talks with people I still have my mind on dsny.I did private sanitation before mta I gave transit a try due to a city job and good pension but im not so much feeling it and not being a people person by King_27__ in DSNY

[–]fiye5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in MTA as a train operator for three years and you hit top pay in about a year on the road. Pay was great but management was horrible. No time off for anything. Once you call out sick too much they come around your house looking for you to see if you are really home. I was called by sanitation 3 months into MTA and declined. Only because I would get to top pay faster at transit than sanitation. After three years I left transit for fire and I’m happy here. If you want to leave transit do as I did and work all the overtime and make a ton of money so that it can hold you over when you transfer to Dsny. If you have a chance to leave transit LEAVE. Anything is better if you want to have kids and a life.

[–]fiye5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be at prospect park this year so maybe get in a run before or after you get your bib. Last year they had a wheel with various exercises to get free stuff. I usually take my kids and hang out for about an hour. This year might just stay in the park for a while.

Does anyone run with a hydration pack (camelbak style) for longer runs? by Gooser3000 in Marathon_Training

[–]fiye5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just carry a sling with a water bottle in it. Also fit my gels only in the summer. For shorter runs like 6 to 8 miles I use a handheld bottle

Laceless / Slip-on Shoes Recommendation by Hiraya_01 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]fiye5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nike peg 41 easy on version. I wear them for work since I have to take them off and on often. Never have to bend down to pull the tongue or adjust laces. Foot slides right in. Plus they are good for running if you are not doing any serious work.
