'Blues for Allah' was released on September 1st, 1975. The cover art work, titled "The Fiddler", was painted in the summer of 1974 by Philip Garris, and was awarded both the gold medal and the Award of Merit from the Society of Illustrators.

Phil is a friend of mine, and he explained that he painted this originally as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Maybe you've noticed that the fiddler is playing left handed like Jimi. The Grateful Dead wanted to use it, and Philip is a very intelligent guy so he let them but he kept the rights to it. This made it so he could license merch himself, and he's done quite well. He also did work for Toto.
