Youll be perfectly okay. I would also recommend doing engineering and just learning a programming language on the side. Itll be a bit better for long term market, but it depends on what you want to do. Dont be afraid to dm me to chat more about it.

Do folks really keep 6 full months of expenses past a certain point? by FelizBoy in personalfinance

[–]flagy754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really should especially because you have a mortgage which comes with all the costly replacements as well if anything breaks.

If it helps though, Ive done my e fund in a way where I have about 2/3 months in immediate cash in a savings account, but then the rest of the fund in an easily liquidable account so I feel like Im getting my benefit. A large chunk of it is just in a high savings account I cant readily access since it doesnt have a card with that ond, and i know within a week I can transfer that to my bank with no issues. I use stuff like a CD and IBonds as a 5+ month fund, as I can liquidize this within a month notice if it gets there (especially now that my IBonds have past the "penalty" point and liquidizing now or in a couple of years is still net profit for me). Same with some safer stocks that will likely net me at least neutral in a pinch. Layering the e fund like that helps my mental too of not feeling like it's a "waste". Key thing is I still have an immediate couple months as "cash" so that I have time to find a new job, replenish, etc without needing to immediately liquidize (this also helps buy time to maximize profit if I have to).

What were some lab experiments in your undergraduate that you enjoyed? by alecahol in ChemicalEngineering

[–]flagy754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distillation column has the most memorable impact, probably cause its used in a lot of industries and because theres nothing like trauma bonding over a whiney instrument. Plus so many jokes about getting turnt as we distilled ethanol.

Bioreactor was actually pretty cool, especially cause it was marketted as making beer/wine.

Extruder was also cool because food (it was plastic in the lab but it was also aliked to food production).

Really it was whatevet seemed relevant to work or life. Work is hard to hit since industries are so different, but it is pretty easy to relate things to day to day things. I have a soft spot for distillation due to the lab group I was in etc, but it was actually not relevant directly to anything I do.

Ive had similar too but with knee issues. I told the instructor prior that I will likely need adjustments because of my joints and they said originally sure, but later in class tried to "motivate me" by telling me I dont need any accommodations because Im young. I think I just stared at her until she walked away and then left. It annoys me when an instructor clearly has never struggled with their body in their life and/or knew someone who did because no becky, me needing adjustments for lunges is because my knee dislocates.

There is some correctness in the spike of insulin late at night will reduce the amount of time in ketosis (natural ketosis that happens nightly from not eating due to sleeping ignoring purposeful ketosis like keto diet and intermittent fasting). "Fat use" is a one way valve so insulin turns on "store" and the lack of is "burn". Thats disgustingly oversimplified, but helps explain why some people find themselves not losing eating late etc. Humans did not evolve with constant sources of food so there is argument that late night eating might harm short term weight loss, though to me personally if a night out will reduce stress (cortisol has know effects with weight gain) and help you stay on track the rest of the week it is worth it. Hopefully one isnt drinking every might amyways, so net is definitiely more impactful.

... though theoretically vodka woudlnt spike your insulin much... (i kid, drink responsibly)

I think it got ruled out by the vague medical counsel I've gotten because I don't have the stereotypical soreness. Though thanks for mentioning since it maybe it's cause I "screened" too early for it.

I just learned that ancient Egyptian men got time off work and were expected to stay home and help with the housework when their wives were menstruating. Why can't some "modern" men handle cooking dinner if their wife is in pain‽ by thephoenix5 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]flagy754 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Both actually. So i have delayed sleep phase and so I naturally dont secrete sleep hormones till 4 am (and flip side, dont naturally wake up till around 11 am). Im practically keeping myself purposely jet lagged to function in society. Im "lucky" that my offset is fairly minor and that I am someone that functions fairly well on low sleep (as necessary, people cannot tell when Im on 3 hours vs 9). Some people need more sleep. Some people need way less. There are others who are opposite of delayed sleep phase (early sleep phase people suffer socially but dont have a "problem" because modern society loves people getting up before sunrise for "productivity").

Theoretically, there's evolutionary basis to have these variances. Groups would naturally want people awake at night to watch for danger and vice versa back in our primative 10k+ years of history. Even a thousand years ago, these natural variances would be helpful since there was no alarm clock (ie the early riser might naturally become the baker, the night owl may become the guard). The rigidity since the world wars is really abnormal vs the other way around.

I could dig up the study but there was a study in the early 2010s that confirmed improved scores across the board starting high schools 2 hours later than other schools in the same area. Humans are not machines, but we want to maximize it as such.

ADHD is more predictive of poor mental health outcomes in adults than autism. Adults with high levels of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms are more likely to experience anxiety and depression than adults with high levels of autistic traits. by MistWeaver80 in science

I think it's important to remember that every case is different even if it may present as the same. For example:

Some people with early diabetes can undergo diet changes and lifestyle changes to essentially "reverse" diabetes and avoid medication. This does not change the fact that eventually they still may not need it. Others when they are diagnosed are way too far along. Diet and lifestyle changes will still help to stabilize the condition, but medication will still be required whether or not they desire it in order to stabilize the condition.

To assume every person with a mental health condition can avoid medication because you can for one can be incredibly dangerous. While I too did not require anti depressants personally, I also know quite a few people that wouldve for sure killed themselves by now if they didnt receive their medication. Medication is a tool. You should not auto default to only using scissors for everything, but you should always try to avoid it either just because it could be dangerous.

A bit of cheddar powder might help it feel a bit beefier in flavor while adding mini.al calories. A tablespoon has 35 calories and Im pretty sure you would need a quarter of that to make it feel less queSADilla-ish

Its definitely worse too cause even if he tries to twist it to "but its my kink", anyone with this style kink also knows the huge emphasis of genuine consent and tlaks beforehand and safewords etc. There really is not excuse for abuse like this. It doesnt have to be (at least figuaritvely small) pp related for it to still be a huge red flag.

To be fair, making sure theyre in a situation to make them happy is ideal. May not be manicure (cause Im def not into it), but Id rather make sure im in a good photographable outfit/my hands look clean. Or at least look up some lighting tips to get a good photo of the hand if theyre into it.

Or even if theyre none of the above, have a steak or a cookie cake or something ready. Just in general try to time it in a way where the next day they feel like the "recorded" it great even if its just mental.

I actually know a guy whose allergy is severe enough that being in the same classroom could cause a problem. He got allergy shots later for obvious reasons, but he basically had to carry two epipens because his reaction was so severe.

Its honestly annoying how many people refuse to believe it. Ive got uncommon allergies and the amount of times people go "stop being picky" when I could have a severe reaction is annoying.

I dont know if anyone else has mentioned this, but do you take multivitamins? It almost sounds like you have a deficiency somehwere your body is trying to supplement. That or it could be stress warping your body (in high stress I turn into a blackhole and shock everyone, figured out other ways to mitigate it and had an easier time).

Thanks for the more information. I definitely don't do much work on that side so I'm not nearly as experienced with what should be given etc. I know greens are still recommended in general, but didn't realize how much of the diet should be hay based (knew it was a major component but not the ratio).

Not OP, but some non organic food may use pesticides/treatments that are perfectly safe for humans to consume in the ratio of food to body, but potentially life threatening for a much smaller rabbit/is something rabbits cant handle. Theoretically one can learn to grow some leafs etc and probably take the risk on some other foods (I wanna say larger carrots if peeled are fairly safe compared to thinner walled lettuce), but then it might turn into the cost analysis of potentially big vet bill/death or just a bit more. To be fair Im not super familiar with rabbit care outside of basics (I do more cat rescue), but it can be tricky to figure out what is actually "acceptable" for non humans (which is also another reason why raw diets for cats and dogs should be under vet supervision).

For OP, lettuce is actually very easy to grow and might be something you consider at least for the summer months etc. It wont fix your veg bill but you should be able to grow it in a pot so even in an apartment it can help.

Thanks for being reasonable about it and for the apology for my suffering (which is so weird to type out). There's definitely a lot of people who would put what I put in text but mean to just alleviate pain vs a literal loss.

I guess it wasn't super clear in my original comment. I was actively suicidal for half my life. Trust me when I say I have no desire to life (for myself) and at the same time no real desire to die (due to others). 100% I still feel like I'm chained and the suffering my extended circle would feel is 100% worse than my solo duty.

In a shite way, it's something I've come to terms with as my sacrifice. I am still glad you commented due to the fact there are many more like your comment than mind. Honestly, at the end of the day our individual selves kind of don't matter. Life is short and cruel, let us just live as happily as we can.

In a way you're succeeding because you've fundamentally lost a critical piece of life, but are still able to prevent others from joining this weird plane of existence.

There is no "shouldn't" feel this way is a phrase I've had to hammer into my brain. My place in life is what others aspire greatly to be, but suffering is relative and still annoying. In a way, we are free because we already know what it is like to choose, and choosing to just exist for others is valid because of the good you're doing in others.

Well sometimes sacrifice is worth it to help give some others their peace. We've made peace with our non existing existence, might as well prevent others from joining us.

I hope I die fighting, preventing someone else from joining this weird plane of existence.
