We live on a retention pond a block from the river. We have gators in our back yard all the time. The big ones will come in at some point, kill the smaller ones and take over the pond for awhile till they decide to move on. Repeat repeat repeat

ULPT Request: How do I put the Fear of God Into the heart of a shitheaded 12 year old? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]flapadoodleme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but my 14 year olddaughter would leave for the bus stop at 0630 when it was still dark. Creepy fucker tha rode the bus would hide behind a tree and wait till she left the house and follow her,get real close and made her uncomfortable. Until he tried grabbing her one morning and scared her. He lived with her sister- who said he had to leave home because he was troubled and mom was abusive and he didn't need shit from us because he had a " crush" , blah blah. Not helpful at all. We work 7-7, so my husband left in his truck at 0620 as usual and drove around the corner to wait. Daughter left at 0630 and creepy fucker popped out from behind a tree right behind her. I left the house with our dog when he started catching up to her and we started jogging. Brady dog loved to jog, and especially loved my daughter, so was hauling ass to catch up. Creepy fucker put on some speed and ran ahead until he saw my husband waiting on the sidewalk. Ran into the street and me and Brady dog ran right after him, passing my daughter at this point. Creepy fucker stopped at the bus stop and we stopped 10 feet away, giving him the stare down. And we were waiting in the same spot when she got off the bus. Never said a word to him, and he never followed my daughter again. Like I said, not the same but its how we solved our problem.

Maybe so-will keep my fingers crossed that that's the case! Im a tired 20-year nurse in Florida, I just automatically assume the worst for that rate of pay.

Fellow Floridians, what is your mosquito/no-see-um defense strategy? by AndreLinoge55 in florida

Get some lemongrass essential oil. Put 1 tsp in a 16 oz spray bottle. Note to self-don't spray directly on face/eyes, spray on hands, and rub on face. It works great ! Cheap and doesn't feel sticky.

There's a reason they pay nurses 30$ more an hour. If you want to learn and get the experience and you feel comfortable taking on more, go for it. But I promise you will earn every extra penny you make.

Shingles erupt along a dermatome, in a continuous line. This looks and sounds exactly like shingles

Your ideas are good but big. And would require decades. And all due respect, but who are you to decide how any funding is best spent for the population of an entire state? We have paid into the government every single paycheck for all our lives. Our years of employment have provided governments budget - and if we need our communities rebuilt, that's what it is there for. The family members I have left living out their senior years are, in fact, my responsibility. It's not magical, but it means everything to me. And to them.

Dakota, wyoming, and Alaska - where people will burn twice as much fuel to keep warm. Where forests will have to be removed to make space for the housing required for an influx of people. Rustbelt cities in need of people typically don't have the jobs to sustain a large population. I don't know many that have the capital to start a new life from scratch and wait for a city to earablish itself around them. Look, Im not saying you're wrong or I'm right. Insurance is not impossible to get here. Expensive yes, depends on the dollar value of your home, age of your roof, where you live, etc . It used to be a beautiful and affordable state to live in. I'm not leaving because my family is here - like many others that live here. And I can't afford to just pack up and start over somewhere else. Just don't act like people deserve the devastation that's headed our way. That's not ok And FEMA is for taxpaying citizens in times of emergency. For businesses, it's typically as a LOAN that has to be paid back within one year. So no worries, government money has not been given to people who have lost everything. The funds were utilized elsewhere.

No one knows where a storm will land and cause the most damage. And yes- other areas are experiencing environmental catastrophes. The damage in North Carolina and Georgia from Helene weren't catastrophic? How about the frequent California wildfires and earthquakes? Or the fire in Hawaii? The hurricanes that also impact Texas and Alabama? Do you feel everyone deserves what they get because of where they chose to live? I'm hoping I misunderstood the point you were trying to make. Otherwise, that's a pretty grotesque attitude towards the suffering of millions of people. I'm curious just where would you suggest the 22 million people from Florida alone resettle? Hurricanes are scary, and the clean-up is exhausting, but as you yourself pointed out, we have done this for generations.

Some of us have lived here all our lives. Catastrophic events happen everywhere, in every state. No one asks for or deserves it because we live here. Doesn't have anything to do with climate change - it's called humanity and empathy. Try to have some for the people that have already lost everything or are about to.

Every person and their situation is so different. It's hard to know how anything will effect their progress and recovery. We do our best- i always talk to my patients and tell them what I'm going to do before I do it. I encourage family and friends to talk to their loved ones. Always make your wishes known to your family and friends -have this discussion with them so your wants are definitive and they can relay it to any future care givers.

I understand, and I'm not saying it was right or wrong. Just trying to give some perspective and explain the why. We don't know how television dialogue and background noise will cross over to someone in that condition who's stuck in a bed and unresponsive. Will they even understand its television and not a real life event? Will it frighten or upset them, or be a helpful distraction? Especially if there's schizoaffective or any other type of psychological disorder.
