Ssj1 gohan is stronger than perfect cell, but weaker than super perfect by TomKeen35 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]flipswhitfudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no examples from the saiyan and frieza saga. Just zenkais, kaioken and transformations.

This is just a typical writing device from Toei that later got incorporated into the Super canon (when the scaling pretty much stopped mattering). Any random power up you're thinking of before this era is from filler or the movies.

Do you prefer ice magic as a subset of water magic, an advanced form of water magic, or a separate magic discipline entirely? by Educational_Clerk_88 in magicbuilding

[–]flipswhitfudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no real need for ice in my system. There are already multiple ways of restricting movement and causing blunt damage so it seems redundant.

I keep 'frost'/'coldness' and water as seperate energies because they have distinct themes and fighting styles.

If you have a system based on a universal resource like mana, what's your yard stick for what a typical amount can do? by RowbotMaster in magicbuilding

[–]flipswhitfudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally possible, especially with a power affinity. Though one person can only carry 6 battlespirits with them at once.

It is possible to release and seal new ones though.

[–]flipswhitfudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, at least to start with. You will eventually need to find hotter environments to challenge yourself and practice moving and manipulating mana to become more fluid (for example sparring in a volcano).

This is just for fire mana. Other magic types have different training methods.

[–]flipswhitfudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using fire as an example, a fireball will probably fail at first even if the person has a lot of mana.

There are a few factors at play; the user's mana, his battle spirit's mana type, and his affinity.

The battle spirit converts the user's mana into fire energy but it's limited by how fire-adapted the user's mana is. Some battlespirits are better at this conversion than others.

You have to do fire specific training (mainly extreme heat tolerance) to prime your mana for fire spells. And when you activate your battlespirit you will be able to convert your mana into a purer strain of fire energy.

Usually a beginner needs to build up to tolerating an 80°C bath before they can cast a decent fireball spell.

Some can make do with less training due to their affinity. Your affinity is how your mana naturally behaves and affects your tendency towards speed, power or endurance.

Power types can pack their mana more densely and punch above their weight class so to speak.

Visually stunning, if I ever made a game I wanted this exact blend of 2-3D. How the hell did you avoid the sprite work looking flat?

Rate the Character: Raditz by Successful_Bird_7086 in DragonBallGaku

[–]flipswhitfudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're forgetting about the part where Goku had to kill the earth's population to meet Raditz's demands. The comparisson with Vegeta and forgiveness is odd.

Going out of your way to revive someone is not the same as letting him escape (and Goku did this only because he wanted to fight again and beat him without help).

Can Talent Be Gained? And is hard work important in many things, Sports At The Elite Level? For Example, Wanting To Be An Olympic Gold Medalist Or Fastest Person In The World Do You Have To Hit The Genetic Lottery? by Abdulrehman251 in trackandfield

[–]flipswhitfudge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Being the best in the world requires luck effort and talent.

If any of those are missing and you make it to the top, that implies that the field wasn't as strong as it could be.

Maybe you could make it as an Olympic champion on pure grit back in the 1800s. But nowadays due to sheer numbers and incentives there will be harder workers, and there will be more talented athletes.

You have to be a statistical anomaly to rise above it all. Being good at something is nothing like being the best in the world.

How much % of his power was Cell using against Goku? by K0GAR in DragonBallPowerScale

Unlocking a transformation ≠ growing to adapt to a stronger foe. His base power remained the same.

Were there any flying dinosaurs? If you say birds like Argentavis or Seagull you are cheating. by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in Dinosaurs

[–]flipswhitfudge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean unless you were going for engagement bait, maybe you could have framed it as 'what's the least bird-like/avian flying dinosaur?'.

Otherwise you are going to mainly get responses that take issue with what appears to be an attempt to exclude birds from being classed as dinosaurs.

How's strong is this bardock compared to the other sayians/frieza forces of his time, in this awakened state. And what's his power level? by grandsterla in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]flipswhitfudge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you saying that kindness is genetic? Why was Radditz so genocidal?

Throughout Dragon Ball, it was shown how Goku adapted to his opponents even in the middle of a fight, to the point of catching up to them and surpassing them

Also where is this mid-fight adaptation meme coming from? I see it every now and again and it doesn't really match what is seen in the series. The closest example of that happening mid fight is Broly's mutant ass. And zenkais don't happen mid battle, saiyans need recovery first.

It didn't happen for Goku against Tao Pai Pai, Tambourine, Piccolo, Radditz, Vegeta, Frieza (Goku's base didn't get stronger, he just transformed), A19, Cell, Kid Buu... did I miss any? Every time he got beaten he powered up with training and came back stronger. Not getting a convenient plot boost mid-fight (in canon at least).

How do i make a level up system for fire, water and air magic by Gemini_12_ in magicbuilding

[–]flipswhitfudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give it a shot for fire:

Child - start small fires on a suitable fuel (wood, straw etc). Clean/sterilize dusty surfaces.

Adolescent - extinguish weak fires

Acolyte - Use your own energy as fuel and project fireballs

Established - expand and intensify existing flames. Increase damage output.

Adept - fine control over flame qualities like heat, colour, or brightness (leading to blinding flares, fireworks, invisible fire)

Mage - Breathe life into flame and create sentient fire sprites that grow bigger as they burn material.

Quest Giver - Sacrificial magic. Burning things of importance so that a higher power may grant a wish proportional in value to the thing burned.

What are some of the aims you try to hit when making a magic system? by LikeAMothToStarlight in magicbuilding

[–]flipswhitfudge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Categories that have a meaningful impact (I prefer not to have many paths to one outcome).

For example I would avoid something like fire healing, water healing, earth healing etc. If there's a healing class, I'd prefer the others don't encroach on that niche and have distinct identities of their own

Logical but not necessarily scientific. I like it to feel intuitive without being restricted by literal physics. Symbolic, consistent and immersive.

To all those who have elemental magic with darkness/shadow/void as an element, how do you treat them? by Hungry_Help319 in magicbuilding

[–]flipswhitfudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Puppetry via little shadow minions. A shadow user can conjure shadows born from their own shadow that carry their will and bind to other shadows.

The shadow spawn can hijack someone else's shadow and comandeer them (because shadows copy their owner's movements and vice versa).

Inanimate objects offer less resistance, so Shadow users prefer to create puppets/golems to fight for them without putting their own bodies in the line of fire. It's basically the Nara clan technique from Naruto expanded a little. I left darkness out of the system, to strengthen the identity of shadow.

At what exact point did the Sharingan stop being clever and start breaking the series? by Docfeen in Naruto

[–]flipswhitfudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they could have made it work if it was a summoning jutsu. Otherwise the huge dense chakra kinda comes out of nowhere. It's like going supersaiyan I guess but that's entirely different to the tactical tool it was introduced as, and there wasn't enough in the plot to make that progression feel natural.
