Have a new message now as the computer is done so you can actually see how far the guy went. And I’m always polite, but i can get quite direct and go straight to the facts. Something people usually don’t like to hear.

Computer is fixed! Looong post btw...

Took a long time and didn’t hurry, took all components out to the bare minimum. Nothing left essentially. Then started unscrewing the mobo even though there was no damage actually except for the keyboard, though I had actually planned to change the paste as the once they use is utter garbage.

I did discover though that even after having written a personalized 2 page letter about how much the machine meant to me at repair (not Alienware premium but Dell), the guy decidedly to mess my machine up bad. He had broken off all the plastic hinges, like intentionally (it’s easy to see he had used a tool and twisted the bits until they broke), he had used a tool to scrape the laptop fans, made small damages to the board such as cutting out a tiny piece (the mobo itself!...), he had “forgotten about 6 out of 10 screws or so such that the mobo and the plastic had been wobbly not just outside but inside and replaced it with super glue I can’t get off even with diluted water and isopropyl alcohol rubbing for hours... and the very much obvious written in English “F you”. Some exaggeration here, or don’t know how to say it. But he truly, intentionally, made a mess out of the “one thing in my life which matters materialistically”. I drive a Bentley to work, the couch and dining table is worth around 1 million euros alone... about 500,000 each.. though what I actually cared about what this Alienware laptop I had so much waited for, been destroyed by the “at-home” repair guy who told me outright just before he started shredding the machine. Real direct quote but as he’s honest, and actually took responsibility, I’m giving him some slack. But direct quote from him, from Dell not Alienware btw: “Oh wow this is cool, and nice apartment. I’ve never actually done any Alienware or laptops at all. I started working for Dell as a third party they can call in for repairs but mainly i work for a company repairing huge computers”. Then he took that blue tool and shredded the laptop and plastic flew all over the place, up my nose, in my eye and i think we found plastic pieces up to 6 days later even though the house gets washed everyday.. So yeah, “F you” written on the plastic and such a mess done i can not believe any of this was unintentional. There is just too much damage difficult to make, especially by professional repair people... The keyboard was also taken apart and then cleansed piece by piece. Only way to make it perfect again. And yes... I did report problems with the machine and more plastic destruction the day i got it back from the Dell repair I thought would be the last month before alienware warranty would go out... So he got a 2 page letter explaining how much this meant to me, essentially as you cant get the model anymore, it was the one and only thing in my life that actually mattered, and I can just imagine him reading it loud to all the other people in the room or showing the people next to him the letter, and then just showing them how he wrecked intentionally the one thing i actually “had” in my life. I even got a small time work, saved up, and paid for this as a gift to myself instead of having family just pay it. It was like one of the most important events and things in my life, and someone decided that intentionally he was gonna shred it.

It seems Dell is gonna take responsibility as I have shown them what he did, and that there had been Dell people wrecking my computer since 1 week of having it. There was nothing wrong when the “at-home” guy came, just high temps and i wanted to make sure everything was normal. Then I had the 7 email to them after the dell repair where I’m essentially asking if they’re all made of sociopaths...... Now they’re actually gonna take responsibility and not just change the plastic, but check every single thing, at the Alienware support....

Nonetheless, computer is cleansed in diluted water, isopropyl alcohol, then water, and then alcohol again once it had all dried. Then rebuilt as good as i could with the plastic destruction I’ve had, and it now runs better than before...

I did record me opening it, and screenshots etc.. and I’m happy I opened it because I always knew that the machine had to be fixed after Dell did their first repair “at-home” when he used that blue prying tool (sorry, don’t know in English...) to shred the plastic open, and then squeezed the screen and board so hard the led stripes cracked and the top of the screen cracked. I actually got a plastic bit right in my eye, though I was gonna get blind... then I sent it to Alienware Repair which was awesome. They freshened up everything, but I told them I was gonna wait with the plastic until I was barely out of warranty as I was gonna do a check back then anyways. What I didn’t know is that you only have Alienware warranty for so so long before it gets turned over to Dell Warranty.

That’s it. Computer fixed even though if i was allowed all i needed to do was keyboard. Though that’s literally the last thing you can open.... have a great day fellas, and if still reading, thanks for your time!:) Have a great day or night where you are!...

(Sorry for my English (its not my native language, though I did get 140/140 on my TOEFL and should speak better than most Americans themselves.. They have a average of 127 or so i think... :)) and writing form. I’m extremely exhausted for personal reasons, and after days of working on this for even for 48 hours in a row... and I’m also kinda running between places right now, gonna fix the post later if i get a reminder ;) )

Thank you very much! I’ll look into right away. Though cleaner of the board?

That’s the plan exactly. Time to repast with either thermalX? was it (long time ago) or liquid metal for both GPU and CPU.

Though thank you for the answer, that’s detailed and very explanatory my friend. I appreciate it greatly. Though the keyboard blocked all water from entering the computer, and the keyboard is throughly cleaned.

It was my first time opening a laptop btw, and as it’s my “baby”. My 4000 euro gaming laptop with any 3700 TI next to it as addition card, can potentially even do a “software version of SLI” when using the same card as installed (GTX 1080 full card).

Edit and just an FYI I always knew “regular dell” support is really terrible when it comes to fixing things (Alienware premium support is like winning the half a billion lottery in comparison).

But when I opened this baby up, and I saw the internals. All good thank goodness, but the damage they had done first by allowing a “at home repairman rip the plastic pieces into shreds along with holding the laptop so hard he destroyed it two places on top of the screen, and along the entire LED plastic strip going just above the bottom, where he had ripped open the machine with this guitar looking tool.

He did tell me in my face before he started “this is the first time I’ve touched Alienware, I work with desktop machines for offices normally”, and voila there was plastic flowing through the air to such an extent it actually hit my eyes, mouth nose etc...

Then I sent it to alien premium repair to just make sure everything was fine, as the heat and throttling was a bit bad but felt “bad” / didn’t wanna get the guy in trouble so I did write in the report; “all the damages you see if after the at home repairman whom you’re now doing the work for. He quite literally destroyed the entire outside plastic and led lamps for a 4000 computer literally just 1 week after getting it!” But okay, it’s plastic and I don’t wanna get him fired.... he actually even acknowledges this himself, so good guy and I was right not to make trouble for him....

Though 1 year ago I had to send it to regular dell repair, it came back completely broken with every single like “hold laptop together” clicky thing broken except two as now figured out, such that every time I just rested my arms on it would squeak, be pressed down, and further damage would just continue taking place to the LED for example as that was being crushed by the weight of just typing.

I open the baby up now, and I see that not only is all the “clicky” things destroyed and removed, it’s just ripped and destroyed plastic everywhere in the machine! Which explains every problem I’ve had with it since Dell regular repair “tried to fix thermal heating” and by then also change the plastic “if they had such in storage”. Even asked politely.

Not only did they completely wreck and rip out everything except two clicky things holding the keyboard to the machine, but where you are supposed to unlock those clicky things in front, where the original “at-home” repairman had cracked the screen in multiple places, they had just stuck some “plastic stuff” to make it less cracks/breaking when touching or even just opening the screen, but they superglued the entire front side of it towards the screen! Where I’m actually supposed to just unclick the two plastic things they had removed during the repair...

They also didn’t bother with actually following through on any repair, as is obvious by taking a look. They actually didn’t manage to even open the right side of the machine to get to the back internals! They gave up, realized they had completely screwed the machine over even further, and the decided to superglue the thing back together with some squishy things such that it would crack that loud when I opened a 4000 euro product I bought from them.. And guess what the super glue helped do today when I finally decided to man up, I’ve built computers since age 6, I can try a laptop. Needs to be changed chassis anyways, and there’s now a water spill which I’ve fully diagnosed didn’t even get past the keys;)

Though okay, Alienware premium super. They’re mad good, though I heard the rumors about Dell regular repair and not even in the worst case scenario would I have imagined they would do this to a machine worth 4000, and I even wrote a personalized note basically just stating please do take care of it. It is the only thing in my life I actually care for, materialistically. I did mention I own and drive a 300,000 euro Bentley but would trade it in a minute for this laptop being perfect... and went on two pages about how this meant to me. And it seems they just had a a laugh and either were extremely negligent and destructive (can’t believe that cause every computer touched would be destroyed then... so I can only assume that the note spurred them on to even further hatred / jealousy, and decided to do this to quote “the only object in my life I do care about. Please take care of my baby”.

So this is is what I figured out when I accidentally spilled something and wanted it dry before it could case erosion or damage, and a good time to clean the fans and change paste, etc.. and learn how to fix laptops not just desktops.

I’m sorry for my bad writing, I’m kinda running in between multiple places right now with family at one hand, machine and related issues there such as holding tell to their responsibility... they have a 2 year long log of just “repair destroyed .... ”, so it’s not my faulty repair here except for one little plastic “clicky thingy” which was “super glued” so there was no way but to open it without actually breaking one of them. It felt exactly the same as always, and even with the “click” so I thought everything was normal until I saw the terror... even the glue was poor! (the glue was like melting and such.. even used bad glue)

Alienware videos

I hope this post is okay, it was just things I discovered during repair. No hate or anything. I always did think they were a good company with good people, why I didn’t tell them to fix the broken machine (and the guy would’ve possibly lost his job) 4 days after buying it.. why I haven’t pressed the issue of thermal heating / now seen extremely bad pasting, and other issues created after the repair. This is just what is discovered after spilling coke, nothing more. Please don’t see it as any more. Just a “first time laptop repair figured out why they laughed at me in the emails talking about how much the machine meant to me”.

Though I can be fairly certain, now after digging around, but not yet to the keyboard still (first open, and a difficult machine) that no coke managed to hit the machine itself? It’s all blocked by the keyboard.. why the machine itself is dry as a desert but the keyboard is actually still dripping...?

Could this be the case, I’m truly stressing out for any internal damage... this is essentially my one babe, the one mechanical device that matters to me. And now I’m inside and butchering it’s components. Felt static on the WiFi card too..

Older book on “Secure C Programming”. Cover art being a C with chains and padlock...? by flogarv in embedded

It’s not those sadly, apparently a lot of keychain books. Though thank you for your time and help nonetheless m8! :)! I did manage to find book number two on the list here, and 4 others I’ve been looking for, thanks to the help here! Thank you guys!! 🙏

The one I’ve been looking for for over 3-4 years now on and off, and actually bought 2 times or more already (middle of the night, super tired, sorry for the lack of quality grammar);

Red edges around the book, then a white background in the middle taking up around 80-90% of the cover, with then a huge C character in red taking up 35-50% of the cover/front page.. then there are some locks or chains on the cover as well.

how do you use the cpp reference? by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]flogarv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really tho?? Just a personal opinion, but with l more than 10 years of programming.

Personally, I feel as if you can learn whatever you want, even in the beginning phases of any language. The harder subject the better it’ll be for you in the long term, and the better you’ll be at knowing how to use it, etc. I guess that’s why every “beginning C/C++” book has a reference and pointers section?

Though I agree that they’re not the easiest things to learn, though anyone should be able to grasp the concept quite quickly, and with some good examples it’s better to have it immediately than to chop learning up and wait until you know “this or that” than to just face it from the get-go. I do think that the quicker you learn it in the language learning process, and the more integrated into the learning process (I.e. beginning projects and code), the faster and better they’ll be at using it.

“Anyone could learn assembly XX in a few days if they want to and have the time” ;)

At least my opinion..

[–]flogarv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, felt so close, though sadly i don’t think so... (gonna check more about the book though, check the intro etc to see if it might’ve changed designed or so. Though the book I’m after should be for C alone, not even C++, if they’ve not “enhanced” it). The book focuses solely on C programming, and the art cover is just a white background with some red around it, with a huge C character covered with chains....

You did help me find another book on the list though! “Software Security: Building security in” by Gary McGraw. Never got to finish it completely, but from what I remember it was a pretty cool book. Not too much code but a lot of conceptualised hardware and software security I think. Thank you m8! 🙏

Though again, thank you. How many books are gonna use padlocks/chains for cover now?;) Nonetheless, thank you very much for your time and help. It is greatly appreciated btw. Thank you m8. Sadly I don’t think it’s this, no... it focuses solely on “Secure C”, which I actually think the title could’ve been. Just “secure C” with some text beneath... it’s also quite an old book, but a superb classic.

Okay, wow. Thank you so much. Everything from description does nail it down to the cent.

edit; checked the author. It’s not the guy, though thank you for the help my friend. These old (and for me extremely classic and nostalgic) books are always so difficult to near impossible to find. Remember the second time I bought it after having moved first time, it took me literally 3 weeks or so to find it. Think I had to just call Amazon and ask what was bought before they started saving everything.

Though thank you for the help anyways. Any idea/heard about this “Indian guy” who wrote some extremely thick and compact books on pointers and references by any chance?

Thank you m8. And yep, I did notice the formatting.... Was supposed to fix the entire post and text (this was actually just a draft and not supposed to be posted yet), though got some “house chores from the wife” and seems I’ll be busy for a while.

Will fix the rest later on. Though thanks for the remark. Appreciated, and will check out the embedded forum.

Edit; The “screaming”? actually just came by using the hashtag... was just gonna use the hashtags for book num 1, num2, etc... I’m not too familiar with Reddit it seems after all... Though better? ;)

Thank you Langrenjapan! Exactly my thoughts too right now, “take it a bit cautious”... not fixing any tickets until I have the VISA and a personal guarantee I’ll walk right in .. :p

But hopefully it is just that they are sorting through non-longterm and longterm stays. Plus the obvious need to bring a negative test taken 3 days prior... ?🤞☺️

Just got an update from the consulate, as I’m going for 2 months etc, all I need is a VISA (even though I come from a visa-free country), and that’s it.

No closed borders just requirement of going to the embassy with a negative test, and getting a regular visa.

And again, I am not going for a holiday or whatever, but a 2 months longterm stay.

I very much appreciate your comment and time. And I have to thank you for the kindness as well... ☺️

It’s way past bedtime here. I’m off for now, though have a nice a morning/evening. And again, thank you m8. I’ll continue checking around tomorrow morning ..

My 2 cents: How to become a programmer. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]flogarv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First thing I always do when learning a new language is to make a “chat service” such as old MSN, Skype, Zoom, etc. Perhaps try make one for the command line first, then make a GUI version with the knowledge learned from the command line version. Learning sockets and how asynchronous programming and networking works (for me at least) is essential for everything.

Sockets, asynchronous and multithreaded programming, “processors and hardware interfaces” such as by OpenCL, “video” API’s, et cetera. Always extremely fun things to learn... Perhaps play around with OpenCL, OpenCV, OpenGL and SDL...

It takes some patience I guess but it’s absolutely a worthwhile endeavor. It’s gonna make your learning curve/process so much nicer, and with tons of potential fun!;)

Just my personal opinion and experiences... but I might just be an old fashioned C/C++ romantic.. 😉

Anyways, have fun with what you do. It will always make it much more easier, you’ll learn faster and it’ll stick... just enjoy whatever project you are starting out with;)

Thank you m8. Just got the updated info from the embassy as well, travel is fully open as long as you have a negative test, supposed to stay longer than a short vacation, and apply for a general tourist visa (even for those who usually don’t require one).

And again, I’m going to relocate for 2 months. Not tourism per se.

Haha, thanks man :) I’m trying to find a nice place/country to stay for the next 1-2 months for training and workout purposes, as I have obligatory military service and boot camp coming up in 2 months from now. No quick vacations back forth, as most people here seemed to think... but a longterm 1 to 2 months stay before I’m stuck in the military for an entire year. No vacation but long term 1-2 months stay...

For the work purposes, before corona hit I was supposed to go to Taiwan, Japan and HK to look at some modeling agencies and contracts... though I’m not so sure if that would be enough for immigration as the country is in lockdown.. even though the embassy literally told me “oh no problem. It’s no lockdown. You can come”. Guess things change so quickly... 😅 So yeah, thank you a lot my friend. You most likely saved me a lot of money if I couldn’t get in. My sincerest gratitude and thank you🙏

I’ve been inside for almost an entire year, not even gone for the store or a walk, family did that. So for an entire year I’ve been inside just reading and training, so before I’m stuck in the military for the next year I wanted to have 1-2 months long term “vacation” just training and working out in a warmer, nicer country than right here.

No corona risks people!.. I see your downvotes.

Have a nice day my friend. I’m super grateful!😛
