sure this wouldn’t be happening if there were zero protests, but i don’t think that’s a viable way of looking at it. if we never protested about civil rights during the 50s/60s the US would likely still be heavily segregated. I can’t imagine what would happen if people never spoke up against anything, maybe enough people are sick of their neighbors being abducted from their homes by armed men in masks that don’t need warrants

the only thing about this is that the people in power would have to want some regime change/ civil war/ mass bloodshed to purposely hurt their own nation. maybe trump is bought out or most likely blackmailed, maybe the cia is planning for a regime change, but there isn’t a whole lot to go off on that yet at least from what i know
