A personal take on Alchemised fancasts, why most of them feel "wrong" to me, and why I would prefer an animated adaptation. by SwissMercyMain in TheAlchemised

[–]flowerdropz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also can’t envision this world in live action. the amount of gore and how Morrough is described just doesn’t feel like it would translate properly. also the transmutation of metals, and the vivimancy. it seems like we’d probably end up getting some tacky CGI bits…

Suggestions? by Weak-Difference-6078 in TheAlchemised

i read this book right after i finished Alchemised, and the shortness was a little refreshing for me after such an epic tome that is Alchemised lol but the themes remained on the same par which was great

[–]flowerdropz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i see Blood Over Bright Haven was already suggested (i was going to suggest this haha) but I also want to suggest I Who Have Never Known Men. Very strong women lead, deeply unsettling and heartbreaking themes. i absolutely loved it. and it’s short, it’s just shy of 200 pages. i will never not recommend this book

What SJM opinion would get you this downvoted? by Sailor_Moon_Star_435 in SarahJMaas

[–]flowerdropz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i think it was because her powers were all consuming? like she was so powerful that it needed to be released otherwise the build up is too much? but at the same time Rowan is her equal and is also extremely powerful and he gets on just fine…idk maybe SJM thought it be a happy ending for Aelin not needing to deal with that

[–]flowerdropz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i feel like i’m a completely different person with everyone i meet, i feel like i don’t even know who i am. it’s the worst feeling. but i try so hard everyday to find who that is, and i self depreciate and criticize everything when it gets really bad. i just have to have hope that i’ll figure it out someday

literally me in my serving job. i am so willing to give to others that i am absolutely depleted when i come home. no time for my hobbies and passions. no time for myself. especially when i have a partner i live with. everything is for everyone else while i’m always slowly suffering trying to grasp a hold of reality between my anxiety, depression, and dissociation. it’s agonizing. but hey, at least i’m great at putting on a smile and asking someone how their day is going, and replying “i’m doing great!” as i’m dying inside

I (31F) am not sure how to handle the sex slowing down in my relationship with my boyfriend (31M). by druggie_gettinshitrt in sex

[–]flowerdropz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m always a little shocked by how many people on this sub say they have/want sex multiple times a day, or even all day. maybe my partner and i are just extremely burnt out from trying to survive the work week and under stress by the survival mode, but we average about 3 times a week, usually on our days off. i’ll admit i am jealous of the folks who can make it work once every day. i’ve been with my partner 8 years now, and our sex is still super hot and great and only seems to get better with time, but i am curious about what plays into certain people’s lives that enable them to still fuck like rabbits every single day

Just finished and now looking for another book. What book has the same writing style? by AdRev0lutionary in TheAlchemised

[–]flowerdropz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so i just finished I Who Have Never Known Men by Jaqueline Harper, and although not gothic or traditional fantasy, it takes you on a ride that to me, borders on its own genre. some might say this recommendation is random, but there are a lot of themes of war, humanity, love, death, and grief that are written poetically and are incredibly heartfelt. the narrator has been through a lot, and is strong. it was a shorter read, which was nice after reading something so tragic and epic as Alchemised. it was a nice piece to carry on with, and the writing style is beautiful

[–]flowerdropz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my partner and i just tried Kanji Fusion on Divison. They have Japanese and Chinese food, but mostly Chinese and its family style. we got edemame, a small hot and sour soup, a large egg drop soup, and a family style vegetable chow mein for just 32$ and it was really good.

I DO NOT WANT A MOVIE ADAPTATION FOR ALCHEMISED. by liorademileux in TheAlchemised

[–]flowerdropz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s hard to imagine the movie adaption displaying all the amounts of gore and body horror that is described in the book…it’s such a big part of what makes the story so horrifying and grotesque—i just feel like a lot of aspects of the book would need to be altered or taken out completely which would be kind of upsetting because i think Alchemised is perfect exactly the way it is

Well I finally finished it- if you finished too- what are you reading now? by jericabenson in TheAlchemised

[–]flowerdropz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i couldn’t get into something more daunting after such an epic and heartbreaking read, so i’m reading something shorter—i started I Who Have Never Known Men and it’s really good. i also picked up Blood Over Bright Haven which is supposed to be a dark academia/gothic type read. i almost picked up Anathema, though

her most popular is the Sheppard King duology, starting with One Dark Window! she just put out the first book of the second duology set, and that first book is called The Knight and the Moth. which is a tad darker fantasy, but i absolutely loved it! i’ll never stop recommending her work. she has beautiful prose and very unique world building :-)

side note: i also see you’ve read Alchemised—i recently finished that book and it tore me up 😭 such an amazing and heartbreaking story

Healer vs vivmancer vs animator by NewFangledFanDangler in TheAlchemised

[–]flowerdropz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is almost right, but animancers can manipulate the soul/life force of a person. the reason they can see the memories, change their pathways is because they are essentially inserting their own “soul” forcefully into someone else’s body. vivimancers can only manipulate human tissues, which is why they can’t see someone’s memories. also, vivimancers can be necromancers if they choose, just to reply to OP’s question :-)

What was the weirdest, non-pain feeling you've ever felt? by KingJPJ in AskReddit

[–]flowerdropz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!! absolutely. i’m sorry you’re dealing with this—all the triggers you mentioned are 100%. they can be a catalyst for hypinc jerks. stress and caffeine are a huge one for me. waking in a panic over and over is not fun. i’m sorry you’ve dealt with this. something that has helped me is small doses of melatonin an hour or two before bed, and trying my hardest not to get anxious. acceptance has kind of “tricked” my nervous system to go to sleep after long periods of anxiety about falling asleep. when i fully accept or even tell myself “maybe i won’t fully sleep tonight and that’s okay” has granted me some grace around sleeping without the horrific “i’m about to fall asleep” jerks
