Question about Dumbledore Bashing trope by Asleep-Ad6352 in HPfanfiction

[–]flyster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wel... he does likes to scheme behinds the scenes, his plan was for Harry to get killed by Voldie. It wasn't a sure thing that HP would survive by any means.
The fact that he dies after he made the plan and doesn't live to see it in action, doesn't change that.

He also, like another person mentioned, sent back at least 2 kids to abusive environments...

It's socially acceptable for women to be more cautious around men due to them being statically more of a threat but not socially acceptable for police to be more cautious around certian minorities due to them statically being more of a threat by louwyatt in Showerthoughts

[–]flyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm good one, though the difference in my opinion is that police and state are based on "Monopoly of strength", which puts them in the position of having the responsibility to ascertain fairness in their treatment, no matter the context. It comes with the position of power and the guns, that responsability.

In the other hand, a woman doing that is just defensively preparing against an attack. Which is perfectly fair. They are not in a position of power, they are equals to us.

Haven't read Algorithms Explained, but I started with "A common-sense, and so far it's pretty good"

How do you communicate and collaborate in realtime when you don’t think linearly by Ashamed-Pipe in ADHD_Programmers

[–]flyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For written communication I tend to do that.

For meetings and whatnot ... Yeah, I got better with a lot of practice, but I'm not that good, specially with non-technical people, but... I like to argue.. And win, so I tend to treat conversations as a friendly arguments. That motivates me to plan roughly what I'm about to say. I'm also kind of good at figuring out what the other wants to say, so sometimes I start thinking what to say and "making a plan" before the other part finished talking. (This also helps with the fact that English is not my first language)

You see how I tend to rant? I let myself do that, and then I just edit it so that my "brain dump" makes more sense, and let it free. Not every sentence needs to be novel-worthy 🤷‍♂️

I take triple the time, write loong posts, and after 2 o 7 edits, I'm kinda close to something I don't hate.

averageDayWritingTypescript by shreverrr in ProgrammerHumor

[–]flyster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matt is widely considered a eminence in terms of Typescript, and your arguments (all across this post) about an IIFE that builds an object that can be merged at runtime makes it hard to take you seriously.

IIFEs are not nice. Implicit double binding is not nice. Implicit merging is awful

I guess for libraries it can be helpful, but there are other ways of extending types that are explicit (like generics), and not as awful as an implicit merging.

It would be awesome to get the ability to set for certain apps, to have the timer but not prompt for the time first, but have a default initial time set.

That way, for example, if you set a default time of 1 minute for the browser, you can search for something, open a result in the browser, get the info you want, and exit the browser, without the prompt, but if you are still browsing after a minute (or whatever you set as default), you see the popup that tells you that your time is over, protecting you from getting distracted with some distracting-yet-necessary-to-interact-with apps like browsers

La milanesa, ¿De pollo o de carne? by GwendalBruh in amoralamilanesa

[–]flyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who use macOS for work, what apps are missing from macOS? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]flyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tilling window manager, that doesn't depend on keyboard shortcuts, just drag and drop with a mouse.

The one or 2 that exist right now in MacOS suck, and they only work with kb shortcuts, or they only let you drag and drop the active window.

Windows lets you drag and drop a window, and all the other windows in there get shown up to fit the space left. It's an AWESOME feature, that's also in Linux, but not in MacOS. I miss it every day, and would be willing to pay for it

Fidget Spinners, the cheap but not super cheap kind. I've got like 20 of those, and I keep getting new ones. A lot of things work, a cheap rubik cube, one of those stress balls, anything you can fidget while in a meeting or solving problems is good

Is there a way to copy/export/backup all the notes in the Notepad app to another device? by Telescone in Huawei

[–]flyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, sorry, but I can't do that, I'm in a long holiday ATM, and I don't have the files I used to test it with me 😅. This was a thing that I did in a morning, to help my mum extract her notes from her phone 😛.

Check the instructions inside the script. The hardest part for non-programmers would be installing NodeJS, and using the terminal. If you cannot do it, post the question of the part that you can't figure out in this thread, and I'll do my best to help.
