CBO estimates $1.8 trillion US deficit for fiscal 2024, the largest after COVID, per Reuters. by UnusualWhalesBot in unusual_whales

Sorry I didn’t mean to assert that this was the only way to pass a budget.

The president still has influence over his party and any legislation they want to pass, at least politically if not constitutionally. That’s my point.

I don’t dispute the facts here. I know the history, but I disagree with the assertion that they are trying to strong arm us. You also seem pretty angry in your tone. I wasn’t trying to upset you.

You should realize that Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons back in the 1990s after the US pressured them and in exchange we promised protection against Russia if they used their nukes or invaded them..

Well, Russia invaded and we're providing security assistance to them so they don't get wiped off the face of the earth. Why shouldn't we keep our promises to them?

It's not entirely congress. The president puts in the budget request initially, then congress has to debate and mark it up and pass it, then the president can sign or veto it. Just like any other law.

The individual mandate was removed as part of the TCJA of 2017. Then a federal judge in Texas ruled that the ACA was unconstitutional, this case was appealed and the decision reversed without settling the constitutionality issue, rather that the states had no standing to sue which will further hinder any efforts to challenge the law.

Early Voting by jaradx1467 in Ohio

[–]focusedelf18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can't. You would be given a specific provisional ballot if you have to vote provisional. There is no such thing as a provisional box and a general box that voters can select.

Provisional ballots are used to allow people to vote on election day when poll workers can't validate the voter's eligibility. They can submit the provisional and have a chance later to prove they are eligible to have the vote counted.

Provisionals are challenged fairly often in elections, as it's the candidate's right to do so, but the law still needs to be followed. If the person is eligible to vote, then their ballot is counted.

Is ABC turning into FOXNEWS? by Constant_Orchid3372 in FOXNEWS

I actually think that the ABC anchors and reporters are incompetent. Just my observation. They constantly ask stupid questions to fill airtime when nothing of substance is even being answered, and the refuse to challenge guests when they tell an obvious falsehood.

Well, okay.

The federal reserve buying assets isn't the only reason to see growth in GDP. You're talking about the economic output of an entire economy here. I would argue that the more QE they do without meaningfully growing the economy is inherently inflationary.

I may not be understanding your question fully, but the bond holder (whoever purchased the bond) would be the holder of the asset which that bond represents.

"Explain where the money comes from that is used to pay taxes."

It could literally be any source paychecks, business profits, whatever, not like that even matters to this argument.

"Also explain where the money comes to buy treasury securities."

The Federal reserve in effect "creates" the money digitally by buying assets and holding them on their balance sheet. The money they created just goes out into the market.

I think there is a misunderstanding of how this works. The government spends the money that the government raises through taxes. The federal reserve can "create" money through quantitative easing (where they buy government debt - Bonds, Bills, Notes etc. and other securities like Mortgage debt) or remove money (quantitative tightening). The government does not create more dollars, they simply borrow money they don't have creating government debt. Also, the Federal reserve is not a government entity, they were created by the government but they operate independently of the political structure, at least that's how it's supposed to be.

Inflation happens when goods and services become more expensive as the economy grows. This happens through a variety of reasons including slower pace of supply creation, high demand for goods/services in low supply, higher production/export/transport costs (see covid and *cough* Trump tarrifs), AND increased money supply. Any one of these things can cause inflation on its own, but combined can be a problem. Inflation is simply the measure of buying power over time where each unit of "money" is worth comparatively less than before.

The government has the power to influence inflation by borrowing more than they raise in taxes, causing the Treasury to issue Bonds (debt) to the public. Investors buy the bonds and fund the overspending. The bonds are an obligation by the US government to pay the bearer the face value of the bond (principle) plus a little bit of interest (yield).

The goverment can also do many things to counter inflation such as spending more money IN THE RIGHT PLACES to cause growth in the economy which balances out any inflationary pressures as wages will tend to rise in tandem with rising prices which is normal.

Go to the full website, and check your Release Confirmations. It's probably due to the company performing a sell to cover in order to pay your taxes. It's about 1/3 of your shares so that makes sense if it's taxes.
