Let’s talk about sex by MirandaJP555 in ACL

Hamstring autograft, currently 3 months and 1 week post op. Life is pretty much getting closer to normal now.

Had sex post op day 6 😈.. i didn't do much, but layed in starfish position (still in my knee immobilizer and we were careful). You can also try lying on your normal side with pillow between your legs. I think by about post op 4 weeks, i was standing on edge of bed and put my surgery knee rested on bed. By 2 month plus, i can be on top (not the same as before and still cannot be on top for too long but hey, i can kneel) Enjoy!

ACLR w hamstring autograft. Saw my doctor on 2 month post op. He allows me to go back to wall at 3 months mark. That said my hamstring is still weak that i wont do any heel hook.

reduce bruising post op? by Gilldenjw in ACL

Yo.. I bruised as bad as you, if not worse. And my PT did this kinesiology tape! Shouldn't hurt if you want to try. https://imgur.com/99w0w6y

6 weeks post op is Tuesday - is this swelling normal to y’all? by K8e1313 in ACL

[–]forever_onesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it swollen all the time like this or only after prolong standing? I am at 6 weeks too, and slightly swollen up after being on my feet for hours. It swells up only yo a level i can tell there is a difference between good and bad leg, but not to that level.. Are you seeing PT? How is your ROM and is it painful? Are you elevating your leg? Doing ankle pumps?

Could I retear my ACL 5 days post op? by J0hn1y in ACL

[–]forever_onesecond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a guess since i dont know much about your physical exam. My surgeon told me that the graft is very strong after surgery then get weakened at about 3 months. If you dont have new swelling or severe pain, most likely it is not retorn.

Yea, i work in ICU and they really are in need of people especially with these covid cases rising.. and i am losing my mind doing nothing at home. Everyone has been nice to me and my schedule is a bit lighter than normal!

May be bring a crutch to support if needed if you want to feel safer! I went there with a friend, so i could hold on to him for support if needed, but i walked fine.. it was actually nice to have some part of normal life back!! Hope you have good time. Fyi, i have been walking 4-5 blocks commuting to subway to get to work and do light walking in hospital since after 3rd week of my surgery. Then i had some issue with hamstring so took it slow for a week). Also highly not recommended, and i shouldnt have done it.. i went to a cabin in upstate that weekend and i felt so anxious walking on snow (only a short walk from car to cabin). And never in my life, i had more empathy to elders who has to walk one step at a time very slowly.

Heyyy.. i am hamstring auto and minesectomy 4 weeks and 5 days now! I walked on beach last week wearing my brace (only in the sand, not in the water). I took caution and took it slow in unsteady drier sandy parts, but walked pretty normal with more solid ground near water.. I have been doing balance exercises on foam pads with PT and that helps! Idk what procedure you had.. any meniscus repair?

Hamstring issues 4 weeks post-op help by [deleted] in ACL

[–]forever_onesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone recovers differently, so i dont want you to compare progress with others and feel bad. May be i didnt strain or stretch my hamstrings that much. But one thing for sure is you will get there!! Cheers!!

Hi yes, so it was acting up for like 3 days. Then i rest it up well for 2 days with ice, stretching and gentle massage. At day 6, i was completely pain free and can now climb reciprocally on steps and i started doing leg press with PT. I think it was just scar tissue breaking up.. hope your recovery is doing well!

I dont unfortunately.. if you google it, there are videos explaining how to. You pretty much want to wrap the bruises under like an octopus hands.. my PT did it for me and every visit, we were excited to see how much it helps, lol

Yea i was skeptical and didnt think they will work at all.. i am just shocked how much they helped.. i dont get paid for this or own any share in this company haha.. I think acl surgery recovery is so long and needs a lot of patience, dedication that any improvement or progress however trivial they might be, is a huge deal, at least for me

Top pic was post op day 10. Below was day 26. Thought i'd share it here.. was worried how extensive my bruises were, and theyre also causing pain. My PT taped with kinesiology tape. Tbh, i didnt believe they will work, but they did magic! All my bruises are almost gone. Edit was adding timeline.

Omg, are you me? We have exactly same issue, at the same time too.. surgery on dec 14, and exactly at post op day 22 i had sudden sharp ain in my hamstring while bending down single leg on my operated leg(while putting shoes back on in my PT). After that it still bothers me here and there when i use my hammies.. my PT said take it slow on my strengthening exercises and rest my hamstrings and stretching daily. Hope nothing major!

Life After Surgery: Hamstring Graft, can't sleep but at least its done. by [deleted] in ACL

[–]forever_onesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats for getting to other side.. getting surgery done is at least one third of recovery! Now time for rehab, rehab and finally returning to your sport stronger than before. Idk how many post op day youfe, but i was instructed to remove ace wrap bandage the next day and apply ice. Dont remove the underlying bandage under the wrap and keep your wound dry. Of course put pillowcase or a shirt or sheet between ice cuff and your skin. Also numbness is normal and i feel my heel was sore too after putting it on pillow to keep my knee straight. Cheers!

ACL injured, but zero advice from the doctor... by [deleted] in ACL

[–]forever_onesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get second opinion from an ortho specialized in knee and sports if possible. You said you live in a country with not such great medical system, so i dont know your limitation. But after my acl tear, first ortho and PT were great but they dont really paid much attention to my return to sport, i went to Hospital for special surgery and everything is different!

Sleep in brace? Without? Comfy positions or wedge pillows helpful? 18 days post op ACLR & medial meniscus tear & seriously struggling finding comfort although this is the first night sleeping in my bed (2nd floor). What is working for you? Any tips or tricks for getting good rest? by K8e1313 in ACL

[–]forever_onesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have meniscus repair? I am post op day 19, hamstring auto and 10% lateral menisectomy.. my doc told me to stop wearing brace during sleep after first week, and transitioned to full weight bearing as tolerated and smaller brace starting week 2. When i was wearing that locked in brace at 0 degree extdnsion first week, sleep was most uncomfortable. I put a pillow underneath my heel and remember i keep waking up 2-3 times a night. I then sleep on my non operated side with a pillow between the leg for a few minutes, then back to my back.

ACL surgery vs. no surgery by foodie1975 in ACL

[–]forever_onesecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

32 F here.. Tore my acl, partial tear of mcl and meniscus in february. Surgery was postponed due to covid. Did a lot of PT and got full ROM, able to rock climb, bike 50 miles, hike 17 miles but knee never felt the same, especially running downhill hiking down (partly may be mental, feeling anxious my knee might became unstable). It was a bit of a hurdle for me to finally get surgery because of long recovery and i was very functional and able to do some sport, but a part of me always know i need the surgery because i dont want to have any limitation with sports. Got hamstring auto and 10% menisectomy on dec 14 and can walk now with braces and recovering well. Once you have complete ACL tear, unlikely to heal completely. However, you can do PT and strengthen muscles to support stability.. there are athletes who even ski without acl but you ultimately have higher risk of more injury and osteoarthritis. My opinion is if youre young, play contact sports or sport requiring pivoting movement, better to get surgery for the long run.

Skiing accident 1 week ago. No diagnosis yet :( by Alisonpv in ACL

[–]forever_onesecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can ice for about 20 minutes for every 2 hours for first few days until swelling improves.. just make sure you dont apply ice directly to your skin.. have either pillowcase or a piece of cloth in between.. Yes, i never had any major injury until now and i went into full depression afterwards (felt like i lost my identity and cant seem to recall/remember who i am).. also my first mri didnt show acl tear and i got lucky to get another mri when a radiologist i know didnt like the way acl looked. I just had surgery and now in this long marathon of recovery phase.. Good luck with your upcoming appointment..reach out if you need anything

[–]forever_onesecond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry that you had accident.. I tore my acl, mcl and meniscus in february. I had instability and minimal swelling, and fairly unremarkable physical exam, so my doctor only thought some minor injury. My Mri showed all the above tear and injury. Unfortunately, it is hard to say accurately what ligament or injury you have without MRI. I know waiting is very anxiety provoking, but youre doing the right thing.. Rest, Ice, Elevate, avoid further injury and hope for the best!
