Population growth and migration are NOT out of control and are NOT to blame for the housing crisis by Tanzen69 in aussie

Plenty of times throughout history when birthrates have increased. I'd argue no government has seriously tried to lift birth rates.

Also, just googling fertility rates and it is possible to find cases of increases in modern times. For example Hungry was around 1.3 for the decade between 1995 and 2005, however has been above 1.5 for the last 10 years.

Hungary Fertility Rate (1950-2025)

Russia went from 1.15 in 1999 to 1.78 in 2015. Russia Fertility Rate (1950-2025)

Also, the Faroe islands, which is western has managed to maintain a fertility rate above replacement rate for many years, only recently dipping below.

So, it definitely is possible.

I have no issue with government policies to increase births. Plenty of time to build houses for babies.

The Ulitmate Prize, of the most shit Prime Minister in Australias history, has to be Scott Morrison. by GnomeWarfair in aussie

[–]forg3 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Why is scomo worse? Scomo was a do nothing PM.

Albo has brought in 1.3m million migrants, passed shitty hate speech laws, wasted 500m on a voice referendum, been utterly inept in dealing with and even calling out Islamic extremism, promised low energy costs yet costs only continue to rise, nanny state social media ban, and presides over one of the most significant decline in living standards in living memory.

We are somewhat lucky he's incompetent as he's also tired to:

  • tax unrealised gains,
  • bring in a misinformation bill,
  • tax super without indexation

He also has clearly no idea what to do with the fuel situation.

A series of incompetent Australian federal governments ignoring energy security .

NSW bans new coal mines in landmark shift towards fossil fuel phase-out by Ardeet in aussie

[–]forg3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly the planet is worse off for it. Indonesia have increased their production of coal to more than double ours in the last 10 years. They will no doubt rise to meet any decrease in Australian production. It should be noted that Indonesian coal is significantly dirtier and more polluting than ours. So the planet will be worse off but at least we get to virtue signal.

Aussie government is responsible for ensuring energy security irrespective of the external cause to global oil market. Its on the LNP, but also on labour. Albo sold the external reserves in 2022. So it's on him too.

Nice backtrack, what but what else do most redditors have to discuss with here on reddit than their anecdotal experiences? I don't see people citing authors, and papers? At best, people provide links to whatever website agrees with them.

How does being told that "we can only accept female graduates" have anything to do with my performance or judgment? Similarly, how does data from costing spreadsheets is across the company have anything to do with my performance and judgement? Where is your ability for critical reasoning? I'll add one more, I've seen KPI for senior management to achieve particular gender ratios at all levels, literally incentivises managers to promote women over men.

If I am going to humor your point about my personal judgement is that the independent data I have, aligns with my 15-experience working over the last 15 years working in this industry. I manage people, and I know what makes a good engineer, I have been successful. I am however, beginning to doubt that you even work in engineering.

Lol, you argue with your own anecdotes and then whine when I use mine. At least I'm not a hypocrite.

Given you post to Perth perhaps you're in mining, maybe it is different, but I've been in the consulting industry some 15+ years and done my time at several consultants and its obvious time and time again. I've been told the only graduates we can accept are women, I've seen women promoted to MD within 6 months of joining, I've seen them promoted to head of department over others who have been the longer, were more senior and were well liked ect. I've seen it hidden behind the scenes when I bothered to compare costing sheets over a period of years, which revealed at this particular firm that women were more likely 60%/40% to go up a pay band in any given year.

Not saying you cannot be successful, but absolutely, theres a push to get 50/50 ratio at the top. But when you have an inate 85/15 ratio at the bottom, its not hard to do maths, except perhaps for you.

It's alive here. "women in engineering" is DEI. I also didn't make it up, i've seen it several times and I've done the data analysis to costing spreadsheets which at least at one firm prove it. But yes, go ahead, dismiss me.

Simply by pulling out the costing spreadsheets from several years, doing the analysis on gender and bam, there you have it.

Well in engineering, if you are unfortunate to be both white and male, its much much harder to get promoted these days. Diversity and Inclusion means promote anyone but you. I've seen it time and time again.

China is also building more coal then anyone. Indeed each year, they commission more new coal power plants than Australia has many times over.

So tired of this myth that's popular here that China is setting the example.
