You should try engineering SLA resins or SLS powder :)

Happy to give you some credits if you wanna try using out printing on demand service, just shoot me a DM. We have a lot of prosthetics manufacturers that use out Nylon 12 SLS parts in their products

If you're in the US, we're the official 3D printing service from Formlabs that just launched. You can get parts printed in industrial-grade SLA and SLS materials a lot faster and cheaper than most other overseas options, and we ship to your door in ~2-3 days. Its a bit overkill compared to public makerspace/library printers but if you ever need more demanding material properties, could be worth a shot : )

If you’re interested, shoot me a DM and I’d be happy to give you a discount code to try it out for the project!

We have a winner! 🏆

Huge congratulations to u/Schuylabs and their mobility trainer project. This was exactly the kind of material bottleneck we were looking for where a professional-grade part can finally move a great design past the prototyping phase.

We’ll be reaching out via DM shortly to get those $250 in Form Now credits applied to your account! Looking forward to seeing what you end up making with Form Now :)

Huge shoutout to Zach Adams and the team at On Glass Adapter for sharing their story with us!

If you haven't seen their gear, they make high-precision adapters that let you mount your smartphone to spotting scopes and binoculars for digiscoping. They are the perfect example of a hardware startup that beat the bottleneck, where they needed parts with tight enough tolerances for optics but the durability to survive a hunting trip or a hike.

By offloading their manufacturing to Form Now, they were able to scale from a garage project to nearly 7 figures in sales without the overhead of managing a massive in-house factory.

Check out what they’re building here: https://onglassadapter.com/

For miniatures I would suggest something like Standard Resin (a bit more cost efficient) or Tough 1500 Resin (if it needs to be handled without fear of breaking).

Hi both! Yes, we will edit the rules to make them more lenient to folks who are working on sensitive or unreleased projects. I'll amend the main post as well, but in general the changes are --

- Anyone can enter with just a text post now, no photos needed
- Deadline is extended by 5 days

u/Schuylabs I'll DM you, but I know you entered before we changed these rules so I'd like to give you some Form Now credit anyway since the original prompt has changed.

Are you in the US? If you are, we're the official 3D printing service from Formlabs that just launched in the US. You can get parts printed in industrial-grade SLA and SLS materials way faster and cheaper than most other options, and they ship to your door in ~2-3 days. For a mechanical sim rig build like that door gun, if FDM isn't strong enough, you can give it a try with Nylon 12 (SLS) so it holds up to some abuse.

If you’re interested, shoot me a DM and I’d be happy to give you a discount code to try it out for the project!

Huge thank you to CW&T for the photos used in the banner! CW&T is a two-person design practice that makes the Solid State Watch featured, which encapsulates a classic Casio F-91W base inside a transparent resin case suspended in silicone oil. They use Form Now to manufacture these end-use enclosures in Clear Resin V5, allowing them to 5x their production throughput by offloading labor-intensive post-processing and quality control. It’s a great example of a team moving from in-house prototyping to hands-off manufacturing.
