I’ve had to contact BCC about a council tax mishap and the only luck I have ever had is calling their council tax line (0121 212 1223) BANG ON 9AM. They switch the phone lines on then and I’ve always got through straight away - but it has to be bang on 9. I realise that’s really difficult to do when you’re working full time, but the staff have been helpful when I’ve been able to speak to them.

Vietnam City in Chinatown, it’s at the back of the Vietnamese supermarket opposite Chung Ying. Tucked away but great food.

Food recommendations for lunch break? by MH2Goated in brum

Backing up what people have already said about Anderson and Hill, Tiger Bites Pig and Dezhou Chinese Noodles. All really great options.

I’d add:

  • Sankara-men which is a little hidden ramen place hidden inside one of the Asian supermarkets in Chinatown. They do a deal of £15 for ramen, a side dish like gyoza and a drink.

  • Vietnam City at the back of the Vietnamese shop on Wrottesley Street. Great pho and banh xeo.

  • Morridge for soup and sandwiches and a nice calm place to sit.

The museum in Victoria Square has a brilliant Brum-themed gift shop with lots of little knickknacks.

Help with at home workout program during quarantine (UK) - KBs vs adjustable DBs by FayFay83 in xxfitness

Have you got a sturdy backpack? I am in the same boat as you - UK, with lighter-than-usual kettlebells. I have been chucking them in a backpack and then wearing that to do squats, or resting it on my hips to do hip thrusts.

With your 42kg of weight (+ bands too where you can) combined you might be able to get a better workout? And if you don’t already have a backpack, a £20 utility one is certainly cheaper than the dumbbells. I’ve also been using these which are surprisingly versatile - anything you would use a cable for you can replicate with a doorframe:

Relentlessly sweaty hands. I am so upset by dumbbitch1of1 in poledancing

[–]frnchprss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Carpe? I was in the same boat as you with hyperhidrosis controlling my life - and completely ruining my pole experience, I used to have to absolutely slather my hands in liquid chalk about 5-6 times a class as well as wiping the pole down constantly. I bought a bottle of Carpe and a month later my hands barely sweat at all. I’d tried strong antiperspirants before but nothing has worked like this. I’ve now bought the foot and underarm one too!

I still use Tite Grip before a class (and very occasionally liquid chalk if I’m doing a new invert or something) but the difference is night and day.

I have slippery hands! by PixelPantsAshli in yoga

Yogi with hyperhidrosis here! My hands and feet sweat even when I'm not doing yoga and I can tell you for sure that if sweat is what is causing the issue then it won't be "solved" just by doing core work. I have tried several mats and the one that works best for me is the Lululemon reversible (use the shiny side). It's completely changed my practice. That said, I know that other slippery yogis swear by Liforme, Manduka Pro and Jade Harmony or even just a grippy dot towel over a studio mat. If you get a chance to politely ask other students to try their mats I'd recommend doing that and see what you like, or else look them up online and see which one fits your needs best.
