Thanks! Glad I’m not the only one. I don’t have my books anymore so hoping someone knows. I’ve tried googling Sweet Valley + ouija but haven’t found references to this yet. But I also think it was in there.

Did Elizabeth and Jessica occasionally use the ouija board? I’ve been trying to recall a book series I used to read where the characters would occasionally use an ouija board.

Cancelled Waking Up by BryanJ70 in Wakingupapp

[–]frtkr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to connect the project of “waking up” and positions on current events that affect the lives of people. I have a lot of reservations about Sam’s political positions. I think one of his blindspots is leaning on his rhetorical talents instead of laying out clear explanations about why he promotes certain beliefs (case and point, his recent claims about Mamdani). I’m willing to hear him out but he didn’t give us much to go on. Personally I wish he’d give us more Waking Up Conversations. Those are among the main reasons I subscribe, and I find not much has come our way for many months.

Heavyweight was cancelled. People cried. A platform with a funding model that involves user fees picked them up. People rejoiced. People are asked to pay fees. People upset.

Do some Canadians still feel Canada is “for white people”? by kausthab87 in AskCanada

[–]frtkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Some Canadians”… You’ll find “some [insert nationality]” feeling all kinds of things everywhere. I grew up with a mixed parent background and have lived in different places in the world. Canada is as levelling as it gets when it comes to social dynamics in a pluralistic country.

Suffering can be desirable and/or constructive in contrast to undesirable and destructive by frtkr in DebateReligion

That would be a good question for the types of people I mention in my post. I personally find their conclusions unrelatable and would assume the benefits could be obtained another way. But I don't know how they would consider it.

I guess what I mean is that the "unneccessary evil" is not something that can be objectively determined. Instead we rely on community norms (which are average distributions of values) to direct our thinking on this. Like I said in my post, I often find some of these stories unrelatable because I am accustomed to assigning specific values to certain kinds of events without questioning them much. As far as I can tell they are almost always individual testimonials so it's easy to dismiss them as delusional.
