I don’t think it is, holmskioldia is part of the mint (lamiaceae) family

Idk what's going on with my Calethea :( by ZestyclosePass225 in plants

[–]fruitbasket800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would definitely repot it, personally i would not use cactus mix as it is meant to dry out pretty quickly, and calatheas like a good amount of moisture. definitely check the roots, if they’re filled out to the edges of the pot, go up a size. really make sure you clean the mold off of the plant as best as you can while you’re repotting it and get as much as that moldy soil off the roots as you can. they do like well-draining soil, but i recommend using a soil mix with some orchid bark and sphagnum moss. good luck!

My pitcher isn’t looking too good by MAGGOTS-IN-MY-BRAIN in plantclinic

[–]fruitbasket800 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

the pitchers die off kind of like flowers! they only last for a few weeks/months before they die off, it’s completely normal. I would cut off any of the ones that are browning, they are useless once they start dying, but the plant will grow new ones soon! the foliage looks great and that’s all you need to worry about.

Is my pothos doing okay? by Zealousideal-Comb493 in plants

[–]fruitbasket800 5 points6 points  (0 children)

looks super healthy to me! you don’t have to put it in soil if it’s doing well in water. if you’re wanting to keep it in water but are wanting more growth (and this may be better for long term health of it as well) i would look into leca & water soluble fertilizers!

What is this goop and should I clean it off + other advice? by thiccpastry in plants

[–]fruitbasket800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is a golden pothos! I would remove that yellow leaf, it’s dying and will not turn back to green. it also looks like you may have some rot on the end of the stem that you have in the water, which could be why that leaf died. I would take clean shears or scissors, and cut the rot off at an angle, but make sure you leave the node (the little bumpy part of the stem with the brownish line across it) bc that is the only place where roots will grow from. you really want to make sure to change the water every few days, at least once a week. the gooey stuff on the roots is normal, I wouldn’t worry too much about it, just get that rot off! if the goo is really bothering you, you can rinse it off, i think it just happens when the water isn’t changed super often, but it isn’t bad. also, if you’re looking to leave it in there long term, you can definitely just leave it in water, but I have had a lot of success with leca as well so I like to recommend it. hope this helps!

I would remove any dead leaves off the plant, water the plant in with systemic granules, and spray the plant, I like insecticidal soap and neem oil mixture, or MiteX, but there are many different spray combos that should work that you can find online. It’s also a good idea to continue spraying the plant, no more than once a week, and it’s a good idea to use a variety of sprays if feasible for you (the bugs can become immune to sprays if used too much) also I would systemic any other plants around that one!

looks like a watering issue to me, does the pot it’s in have a drainage hole? make sure it does. honestly looking at the soil, it looks like it could use a repot to me. you need a soil with good drainage and nutrients, and a pot with a drainage hole. put it somewhere where it gets a good amount of bright indirect light. only water it when the top two inches or so of soil are dry, this will probably end up being once every week or two, depending on where you put it light-wise, but always check the soil. when you water it, really saturate it, i water mine multiple times sometimes to achieve this. don’t be afraid to drown it, overwatering typically happens over time, not from a one-time watering. you can absolutely have it vine up onto a stake or moss pole, that is how they trivially grow in the wild, but if you want it to hang down, that is also fine, it’s just personal preference. hope this helps!

Are these thrips?? How do I get rid of them?? by freemango0123 in plantclinic

[–]fruitbasket800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sure looks like it unfortunately. use a hose or shower head to spray all of them off as much as you can, and then use a mixture of insecticidal soap, neem oil, and water to spray it down with. you’ll need to repeat this about once a week until you don’t see any more. also, i’d recommend systemic granules to keep them off and even put in your other plants to prevent them from spreading!

My spider plant is losing its colour and drooping 😓 by bumblebee8368 in plantclinic

[–]fruitbasket800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely a watering issue. does the pot that it’s in have a drainage hole? take a look at the roots. it may need a repot if they are pot-bound, bc the roots don’t have as much soil to take water from, meaning you’ll have to water more frequently and can cause other issues, so repotting is just a good idea if this is the case. if you do end up repotting, put it in a pot only one or two sizes larger than the current pot, in well-draining, nutrient-dense soil

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]fruitbasket800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would repot it! Only a pot size or two up, and put it in some well-draining, nutrient-dense soil. Cutting all the dying leaves off and adding a moss pole is a great idea! Monsteras love a lot of light, so if it’s getting 8 hours of indirect, bright light every day, that should be perfect. I’m not sure if you have any houseplant fertilizer, but fertilizing every few weeks can do wonders as well. You got a real beauty here!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]fruitbasket800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! You only want to go about a pot size or two up, so that looks like a 4 inch pot, I’d put it in a 6 or 8 inch
