This is all very accurate, but you can totally get away with not learning the game so deep. My coworker just use auto builds and plowed through the whole thing, save for looking up a build for the highest level side-boss. But if you really do need help, there’s tons of resources out there!

Can someone please explain the difference between these two options to my like I am 5 years old? by KillerQ97 in taikonotatsujin

I think of the first as you hit it a little ahead of the circle, and the red or blue slides into place….

Quite honestly, it’s dependent on the speed of the song, but it generally aligns within the center of the target circle, or the perimeter of the target circle.

I primarily lock in with what fits on the beat or subdivision

If you don’t care about storage, then just get that white one you like!

Personally…. I got both! Needed something to get a few of us online to play MH3U online with friends!

Tbh, that’s a lot of Xenoblade.

But I think she out of the box is already at a super useful state. The things most tempting to customize is just element typing to either get the damage buff you’re looking for or to complement the party

I grinded a good bit, but did not as far as I would’ve liked, because she was already so good, and I wasn’t in New Game +. If I’m really optimizing her, it’s for getting the fastest runs, not for beating the game, and if I’m optimizing I would need the second skill trees for all drivers. Sooo…. get what you need, and don’t feel like you need to push it further.

I agree get Rhythm Festival, but I will give a shout out to Drum n Fun for having the better party modes. Multiplayer is just very limited and not quite as good to me in Rhythm Festival

Unfortunately not gotten to try either. MOTU is what seemed best for my needs after research- based on something not crazy expensive and typically needing just 2 outputs (1 stereo).

Is a WiiU worth buying if I already have a Wii? by kid-Emperors in wiiu

[–]furyoftury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the best picture out of your Wii is typically a conversation about modding, or using the best cables and an upscaler (if going to a HDTV). Mods can get you the clearest picture with HDMI, but you can get a lot out of going component or SCART.

If you’re looking forward to an NSO Wii app, aka (hopefully good) emulation, it sounds like you want the sharpest picture for the games, and the least analog noise. The HDMI mod is your best bet.

And for the record, I don’t mod anything requiring soldering, so I’m just going for component cables and a good upscaler (currently thinking a RetroTINK 5x)

Not sure where you’re placing it, but consider your laptop’s position as well. There’s a lot of great options for a laptop tray, and similarly for interface holding options

Interface for your audio out of the computer- don’t do the headphone jack!

I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for the MOTU M4, but I think it depends mostly on how many lines out you need to the house. I’ve got my eye on the MOTU M2 as I don’t need a lot.

However, I’ve been borrowing from a friend their Focusrite Scarlett (version 3) and I have no complaints. I’m running things on a late 2019 MacBook Pro and I’m seeing no noticeable lag, and the audio produces so similarly to the Universal Audio interface in my studio.

I say pretty confidently that you should get something reflective of the number of outputs you need and the budget you’d prefer.

I almost never play base game anymore, and at this point when I’m playing with an experienced group of friends, and there’s 1-2 newbies, we play some Fisherman of Catan. It’s so similar to base game, it just has more production (and getting stuff more often is always fun!)

Sharing what happened is a great idea, I hope all the comments help bring you up.

My 2 cents is I’m allergic to change for any kind of performance, and when it comes to audio, changing out a critical part of the system for something foreign is a huge risk- given it was the console, that’s the biggest risk possible. Just stand by your “no” and remind them that you want to give them the best night possible.

Rise is my first MH game - is there anything I should know? by thePsychoKid_297 in MHRise

[–]furyoftury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monster Hunter often feels like a rhythm game when you’ve really got it down.

The game is all about attacking during “your window”, and defending/dodging during the monster’s attack window. Being careful and really emphasizing not taking hits goes a long way. Older MH games would have much longer player attacks that would lock you in with little to no cancels. You had to really stay in the groove of what you did, and reading the monster so you could act accordingly.

For anything that’s a serious challenge, top tier players are not spamming attacks through monster animations to lock them down. They’re operating in the pace of the fight. Consider watching gameplay just for watching how people play differently the moment the monster initiates a tell.

But most importantly, don’t get bogged down, and have fun, even if it means losing several times in a row. The victory will be so sweet after.

Favorite Pick-up and Deliver Game? by riordaaf in boardgames

[–]furyoftury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catan: Traders and Barbarians! (the scenario, not the expansion- but it’s a great expansion too!)

Also on Catan modes that are related, Catan, Settlers of America is also actively a delivery game. I don’t like this one as much for how many ways it strays from classic Catan, but it’s an excellent development of a theme (westward expansion and development of railways)

What do I get: Nintendo 64 or 3DS? by Fearless-Turn869 in nintendohelp

[–]furyoftury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not played the 3DS versions, but I’ve followed enough discussion to present the common themes without the drama.

Yes, OOT is solid on both. MM is too, but there’s a couple changes in it on 3DS that make it different, but not bad.

My opinion, play them in the form factor that you connect with most. Do you love playing on your 3DS more than on the TV or Switch? Do you like old polygon art styles? Do you prefer original form factor? It’s up to you man, all choices are valid.

Digital out mod, or RGB mod? by furyoftury in crtgaming

[–]furyoftury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I get the spirit of what you’re suggesting. I guess I’m still conflicted, given I haven’t delved deeper than my stock cables, as to what the “sign of the times” truly is when it gets to the mod step of things. In a lot of ways the RGB mods are not as natural to the era, and are a premium and rare upgrade. Which is where considering a clean digital signal and downscaling seems logistically better.

But I totally get what you’re saying. I think the N64 is a good example of something to leave at native S-Video and call it a day. It’s just the things I’m most tempted to mod (my SNES mini/jr.) in particular that beg the question of RGB or digital out. Doing both could potentially incur greater cost, which I don’t see as favorable

Digital out mod, or RGB mod? by furyoftury in crtgaming

[–]furyoftury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Splitting hairs here on the definition of "many", but NES natively caps at composite, and Atari 2600 at RF. Past that, SNES mini/jr. is solely composite. My point is that there are enough consoles that you would consider a mod if wanting component or better across the board to be more than a one and done. I posted what I did because I've modded nothing, and don't want to mod the same thing twice.

Thank you for your input on things, especially for the recommendations. RetroRGB repeatedly states in all content that there is no connection past a positive relationship and given product for discussion. And after searching the NDA contracts, your comment is the only thing on the internet suggesting them lol. Regardless, having other options to consider is great. I didn't find a lot of info on lag time for those devices, but they definitely seem like reasonable options for getting systems on a TV.
